Sydney don't seem to forget this match... http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/stung-swans-unfinished-business-v-dees-20110321-1c365.html They will come pretty hard this week as we really embarrassed them last year. It was very unlike the Swans and the Demons need to be ready Sunday.
-
The descriptor of 'expert' is thrown around far too easily these days, clearly.
-
Dissapointing not to have McKenzie, Chip and Morton available, but seeing as they will be back early on it isn't too bad a situation.
-
The Herald Sun are doing a sticker for every team this year too. I'll be getting the Demon one when it comes out (not sure when that is)
-
Should rectify this record on Sunday. Sydney have some major injuries (Malcheski, Kennelly, Bradshaw plus others) and we play the G' well. Need to get up on Sunday.
-
Sheahan also said he thinks Scully will stay after Scully held a press-conference.
-
Certainly an exciting panel of coaches. Great to have Viney on board!

As long as we are competitive, that is the key. Reading in another thread that we did not lose a match by more than 10 goals last year was pleasing. And we had fewer losses over 40 points. If this can continue to decrease, while our wins and % keep increasing, is it a good thing.

I would be happy with 10-12 wins this season, no less. Given our draw, especially the first few games, this shouldn't be a problem. In fact, with Sydney, Hawthorn, Brisbane, West Coast and Gold Coast in first 6 weeks (plus a bye), there is no reason we can't be at least 3-2 or even 4-1 by Round 6. I think the first few rounds will really set us up for a great season if we can at least snare 3 wins from the first 5 teams we play.

I'm inclined to agree with this, although there is merit to the idea that someone who has had first hand experience with a particular issue or set of issues might have the insight (in the event that they overcome their issues) to help others' in a similar position. However, there are many important skills that are needed for those involded in helping professions (like myself, a provisional psychologist). I feel blessed in that I have the balance of professional training and theoretical understand with actual experience. Back on topic anyway, calling this clever spin is right on the money.

I am still contemplating getting one but live in an annoying area that is quite a hike to Melbourne but not far enough to be eligible for country membership. I plan to go to first game so might visit a booth then

Let us not start this again.

I think he is saying he doesn't lose sleep over losing. Doesn't mean he won't try and winning isn't important. Just took him out of my SC team. I think next year he will be a better addition. He is playing with the Demons until end of next year (or is it 2013) so let the boy grow and develop for a while. He may end up as a brilliant player, he might end up being average. We picked him at number 1, get over it.

Doubt it, but would be wonderful.

I certainly realise that saying we have x amount of winnable games is rubbish at heart. They are equally losable by the same token. You're spot on Choko with regards to the team at the moment. We are still developing and we need a lot of players to lift. Certainly need to look at 2011 as a developing year (as many members have said) and, as supporters, we should be content with a year that sees positive development overall (at least I will be). I'd like to think 10-12 wins will occur, but development is still priority over premiership points IMO. We made big inroads last year and played some beautiful footy at times (equally, we played horrible footy sometimes, such as the game against W.C). It was a much more positive year compared to the preceding years where wins were few and far between. But, to think we are top 4 potential is seriously deluded (again, IMO) and even top 8 is by no means an easy task. That is my two cents anyway. Looking forward to the proper season now.

From memory we have Sydney (MCG), Hawthorn (MCG), Brisbane (MCG), Gold Coast (Away) in first four games. We should be 3-1 after that, 2-2 at worse. I think after the first month of football, you will get a better idea of where we are at. In fact, the first 7 games are all winnable, so 5-2 or 4-3 after first 7 is realistic. Edit: First 7 as follows Sydney (Home) Win Hawks (Home) Lose Brisbane (Home) Win Gold Coast (Away) Win Bye West Coast (Away) Win Adelaide (Home) ? From that, I would hope we are 4-2 and a bye at least.

We didn't win a lot during the season either Final score 102 v 75 Disappointing after good start, but no injuries. Looking forward to real season and I hope a much different Melbourne turns up against Sydney at the G. Edit: 27 scoring shots to 15, and that is without Buddy playing. Could have easily beat us tonight by 10 goals.

I am the feeling a bit the same. They might be only practise matches, but we still cannot seem to win.
-
9:04 Ok folks ... final quarter now under way 9:05 Hawks win the ball out of middle ... David Hale wins the ball and takes the mark - will line up for goal I am going to bed...
-
Three quarter time: Melbourne 9.2.56 to Hawthorn 11.9.75
-
Another goal to Hawks. All Hawks this quarter. Bleh.
-
Davey goals, needed that. We seem to be getting smashed in clearances. Something we need to work on considerably.
-
Hawks by 11, terrible start to 3rd quarter
