I actually think that if the AFL bosses are serious about equalisation, this may need to happen. As much as I love Nate Jones, I don't believe we have had a star in the midfield since...... well, many, many years. If the AFL got involved in trade discussions and forced Danger, Shiel, Sloane and Leuie to come to the Dees (for a shite load of AFL subsidised cash, I might add), it would instantly improve our midfield from bottom to mid-table. No point giving us better draft picks, we cannot (wait to) develop them and have shown we can't trade high picks for established stars. The AFL have been belatedly great with bringing in PJ and Roosy, but what we need is a bunch of players who can win games. Sure, it's a team game, and no one player will make us suddenly better, but we are going nowhere without a group of A graders in the midfield. On the other hand, if the AFL is hedging its bets to see which clubs fall off the perch, they needn't do anything, as it may well happen somewhere in the AFL sooner than we think. Tassie Bandicoots anyone?

The reality is that we will not land any prized midfielders unless we win more games and be competitive in our losses. We need about 6-8 wins this year to look as if we are on the up, and that appears highly unlikely. Honestly, even with big cash thrown about, who'd want to come to the biggest basket case in the last ten years when they could have a reasonable choice of the top 5 clubs? Don't give me this BS that so-and-so used to barrack for the Dees as a kid or that we can shop pick 3 around in a poor draft year. Our best bet is to trade for a bunch of mid tier players, as we did with Lumumba, and maybe a veteran or two who want a retirement top up and hope that Tyson, Brayshaw and Petracca become A graders fast.

I'd like to see him playing as a high half forward for the Giants and Shiel playing midfield for us.
