  1. So have I, so instead I will resort to making an effigy of Neeld and Watts and burning them. I was going to go with burning of Mark Evans and Gillon but I realised that darker forces must be at play.
  2. I still get the jitters every time I drive over the Kingsway overpass. That's just a small part of it. I saw "Hair" at the old Metro ( which became the Palace - sadly being demolished as we speak, despite the council arguing over its heritage listing). Just before half time all the actors get their kit off. A young Marcia Hines was in the cast. My current predicament can be directly traced back to me seeing Marcia Hines naked at such an impressionable age.
  3. If they get rid of the coin toss I will not renew my membership
  4. I'm going to reminisce about Zig and Zag. In the 60's The Kingsway overpass - a join between two spans dropped about 4cm causing the shutdown of the Kingsway. I remember Zig and Zag doing a a parody on their show of dropping a coconut on the Kingsway causing the span to drop. My parents reliably told me that for many years after I would go hysterical if we were travelling over the Kingsway overpass because "zig and zag dropped a coconut on it and it is going to collapse and we are all going to die"
  5. I am only going on the bits of video posted so my judgement is based purely on what I am seeing on them. Tackling machine who goes in very hard, seems to get to the right places but my only question from that vision is can he hit a target ? His disposal was, putting it delicately, varied.
  6. pre the Frawley compensation pick
  7. you had me at being reported once for hitting Harvey
  8. it's a choice between..umm .errr....forget it...
  9. I think the hidden gems these day for Roos are "injured gems". We picked up Tyson, Michie, Riley and to a less extent this year, Newton - all coming to us by being delisted or willing to be traded based on not getting regular game time because of injury curtailing/limiting their careers.
  10. I think drones are a great idea especially for looking at opposition training and doubly especially if fitted out with air to surface missiles.
  11. you forgot the biggest fundamental difference. its called a million light years. Firstly TAC football - unwritten law around tagging - doesn't happen. The modern catch phrase "2 way running" is all one way running. Little respect is paid to opponents so ( besides actual defenders) it is much easier for a creative midfielder to shine. Body size is different - which is why big bodied or ultra tall boys can do well in that environment. The biggest point to make is that most coaches accept that players have not really matured as footballers until 22 ( and for big men even longer ). So were are drafting players at least 4 years before they start to peak. It has been shown over and over again that stars against your own age may not necessarily translate to a star in AFL and there is a plethora of late bloomers - footballers who were OK at TAC level but matured in fabulous footballer aged 22 plus.
  12. This thread shows the ho hum that is this election - no posts in just under 3 weeks with the election just around the corner. I found the advertising interesting - the libs tying Andrews to the unions at every turn and the ALP never missing an opportunity to tell us the Napthine and Abbott are the same person.
  13. who ? Laverde or Pitchi ? I would use pick 83 on pitchi at best. Pitchi - welcome to the land of savages ( or the land where you will ultimately get savaged)
  14. I was going to ask what might never happen. That he will get a pre-season in or he'll be a star - but I realised the question was redundant.
  15. Griffins best is better IMO but Jones gets it done week in and week out. For us to march up the ladder we don't need a Griffen every 5 or 6 weeks - we need more Jones' week in and week out.
  16. I have often commented that another reason that many of our young players never develop properly is that we don't have a good tier of mid age footballers to guide these youngsters - to show them what work ethic is required to succeed - recently we have not had players for the youth to aspire to. This is exactly what Jones brings to the table. Is he a superstar ? No, but we should not underestimate his value to our club apart from his weekly kicks, handballs and hard ball gets.
  17. actually - I wouldn't have a clue but I couldn't resist the opportunity.
  18. Win some games...yeah.... logo's- meh....
  19. I could say she was quite the player but that would earn me a rebuke, a rebuff and a ban.
  20. Therein lies the problem. Clubs are usually prepared to offer more money to coax a player out of a rival club. is $100K difference in salary's sufficient respect ? $200K ? What about 4 year contract instead of 2 ? Loyalty therefore is completely subjective and is measured differently by different footballers. Scully was offered a truckload of money to go to GWS but I consider him disloyal as he has given us nothing yet. Clark was disloyal as IMO he had not given the MFC enough back for what we paid him or how we supported him. And if you suggest that loyalty is a two street when it comes to financial offerings then should it not be same with offering similar work conditions. When Rivers left the club he had 3-4 years left of football in him. So the offer from Geelong is play with us and have a very good chance for your last 3 years of playing finals or stay with the MFC with no hope as it was at the time he left. Wasn't that just another working condition we can't compete with (at present). Is it disloyal to go to a club to play finals when your current club cannot offer you the same.
  21. Be fair - I think many here have assured you that loyalty rather than one club player doesn't exist anymore. At least unconditional loyalty. As long as a player ( including Jones) is offered what they consider fair and are happy with the club then they will be loyal. Offer Jones $400K over four years and see how loyal he is.
  22. So when Roos talks about draft picks not being the savior of the club and needing time to develop and find their feet you are obviously not in agreement. Go back through the drafts - go back through the 80 odd players taken every year ( from TAC only) and tell me how many each year are ready to go without the need for development. You can mention your Wines but they are a rarity. It seems to all and sundry that Brayshaw is a lock for one of our picks and according to some is "ready to go round one " - I will watch him with interest to see exactly how he performs in his first year. I'm with you Roosey - lets not look to the draftees to shoot us up the ladder - we need our 22 year old plus players to step up to the plate.
  23. You can criticise Neeld for lots of things but you must not have been listening when you suggest that Neeld kept mentioning how far behind the eight ball (mixed metaphor) we were as opposed to Roos injecting confidence and belief. I don't think a week went by that Roos didn't mention how "far behind the pack" we are. Roos has been far more vocal about how poor we have been for many years than Neeld ever was. The major difference is nobody believed or took Neeld seriously whereas Roos commands respect when he speaks.
  24. ummm... because they are not happy doing it ?
  25. I was going to make the point re their administration. It is so important that all parts of the club are pulling in the same direction ( although Clarkson apparently was on shaky ground for the first couple of years) And 100% right - they got great early picks who either had abundant talent and/or were developed properly.
