WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRISTIAN PETRACCA
nutbean replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Thank you for mentioning one name. So lets look at Darlings draft 2010. Peruse the next 60 names and pick out all the Key position players. Please let me know the second key position from that draft to make an immediate impact. (seriously - I can go through drafts and pick a few big blokes who have impacted from day one - the Darlings of the world are an exception - not the rule) -

You, I and DC are seriously tragic......

I actually hope we do have to pick him because his early form warrants it. That would mean that ready to play round one means ready to play round one - (who would have thought !) I hope he kicks the door down and jumps up and down on it for next 10 years - it means we got ourselves a really good draft pick (w ho would have thought) -

would your gob be smacked ? -
I don't think any of us would have the slightest clue if he can coach. I like the idea of him cutting his teeth at Hawthorn who have good forwards - it will be as much about teaching them what he knows as learning about why the Hawks are so successful and how to operate in a successful environment . Let him learn and hopefully bring to it our club if he proves himself to be good at the caper.

Because if we were a good team, with an abundance of established talent ( like Hawthorn and Swans) then it is difficult for the draftees to crack regular games early on unless they absolutely kick the door down. The good teams have the ability to have kids play for longer in the lower grade to develop. Alas.... -

Hope for lots - expect a little. -
I always suspected John Quiney. I rang Des Davies and told him but he was too busy with Liz to listen. ( OMG - I am so close to a seniors card it is scary)

I'm half way between Rjay and BB - I see no reason why he couldn't play round one if he burns it up preseason - however I have very low expectations on his output in year one and thankfully Roos is giving every indication that he has the same expectation of the draftees. We have got to stop this unreasonable expectation that our draft picks will be world beaters from the moment they step into the club. I was happy with both JKH and Salem last season. They showed me enough talent to believe they can make it. I want to see improvement from both next season but they still shouldn't be seen as the saviours of our club in their second season. -

They are still a rarity. And as to immediate impact - the three you have selected are perfect examples Locketts breakout came in season two round one with 7 goals. Brereton played his whole first season home and away series in the 2nd's debuting in the finals series and Brown's first season was pedestrian up until his last game where he collected 23 possies and kicked 2 goals. Even the greatest CHF of all time, Wayne Carey - four games in season one. This whole "ready to go from round one" is a dream rather than reality. -
Taking Toumpas over Wines was the correct at the time (if you draft by picking who is the higher rated youngster) and horribly wrong in hindsight. Toumpas has a huge way to go to be on level pegging with Wines let alone surpass him.

it was never the same after Charlie Cousins fell off the wheat silo...

I believe that we will take McCartin but immediate impact ? Please name the last key position footballer taken in the draft that had an immediate impact (if you can name one then I will name you the other 98% that took until 21-22 of age at least before they had the immediate impact you speak of) -
I am not sure troubled kids like Gartlett actually "decide" on things - I think they act impulsively and suffer the consequences. It does not absolve him of responsibility but I don't believe a lot of deep thought process goes into many of his actions. I don't think it is a case of "I don't want to play football so I am going to be a dick" - it is more of case of acting like a dick therefore clubs won't invite him to play football.
-
What I find interesting is you have taken exception at words being put into your mouth yet in the same breath you suggest "Keep defending losers who do know better but choose to be idiots" Please point me to anyone, anywhere who has defended his actions ?

I read the attached article and would like to pull up Peter Ryan on his last sentence. Billy Stretch is a similar type of player as Dom Barr !!!! I understand his intentions but he could have outlined Stretch's attributes without any reference to Barry !

Victorian State Election - November 2014
nutbean replied to Grapeviney's topic in General Discussion
I must admit I do like an election purely for the absurdities...how about this little pearl When asked to name the suburbs included in the electorate, Voice For The West candidate Nhan Hoang Tran only nominated Sunshine, which is not part of the electorate. When asked why people should vote for him, Mr Tran said: “I really got no idea about this. I’m new here, you know.” This is a man I want representing my interests in Parliament ! -
admirable but alas it is like watching a kid who has built a sand castle at the beach and is trying to stop the incoming tide from washing it away. If the problem with Gartlett is ice then I do feel sorry for anyone he comes in contact with and for the boy himself - if help and a turnaround is not forthcoming . The destructive nature of this particular drug use makes most other drugs look like childrens lollies. ( well not exactly children lollies ...)
-
The HS this morning from my reading has Petracca pick one as a fait accompli. In the article Petracca has apparently told the StKilda people - "I won't let you down"
-
There is a major difference between not tolerating what Gartlett has done as opposed to being intolerant. That he is foolish and irresponsible is undeniable. That he could have killed others is unacceptable. However I for one prefer to try and understand what drives individuals to such behavior rather than washing my hands of "wastes of oxygen". Again, I do not condone in any way, shape or form his behavior and I also realise that my desire to understand these problems in the hope of reducing them is a pipe dream but I think I prefer my delusional pipe dream as opposed to a harsh wiping my hands of troubled souls. ( let the flaying commence)

go the Bunyip Bulldogs ! I watched my squeezes son play junior football for Bunyip (EDFL) and if the Dees weren't playing the same day would watch all the way through to the seniors. Even had the dubious privilege of listening to Big Mummy address the players ( ex Bunyip boy). Watched Mal Michael play for Nilma Darnum for one season. His preferred position for the Nilma Darnum bombers was wherever he wanted. Biggestred - obiviously you don't get down to the games early enough as you missed the best part of local football - toasted egg and bacon sandwiches ($1.50) at 10am !

Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>
nutbean replied to Jonesbag's topic in Melbourne Demons
On this one I can offer insight. No way no how. With every policy I have ever seen and I have seen a lot ( and I do have to read fine print) - illegal behavior will void a claim. In this case, uncertainty of illegal behavior would at least put the claim on hold until all the court action has been finalised.
