Not for me - how do you explain one B&F for Robbie ? To me B&F voting is always looked at in a different light than actual best players. Many on here are singing the praises of Jetta yet are expecting so much more from Howe many say had an average year - Jetta finished 9th and Howe 6th. Look at Demonland voting - Viney coming in 4th and not in the top 10 in the B&F count.

Jenny Craig ? ( "before shot")

actually I am a shayneh maydel....

I'm a cliche and an enigma wrapped up in a riddle.
-
Now I look at it closely - it actually does look photoshopped.
-
You mean should we be concerned that a draftee may struggle in his first preseason ? Big body doesn't necessarily equate to "ready to go day one". The concern is the meltdown on here if he doesn't tear it up in his first game.

I vote we shoot the messenger.

I also would like a definition of "performance based". I talked to a current Collingwood player ( ewww I know) and he said that Maxwell was outstanding as a captain. Best player ? Best performed ? Nowhere near it. He said that structure and leadership he provided on the ground and importantly off the ground was immeasurable.

You seem to have the inside knowledge on what Roos does - what other secrets can you let us into. "This has been a hard decision, which I have spent considerable time thinking about during the off-season. During this period, I have spoken to a number of people I trust and I appreciate the support of the Club in respecting this decision.” Obviously the above statement above from Grimes is utter nonsense according to you ?

I'll give it a shot - we picked what was considered the best at the time - that wasn't a mistake. We didn't pick what ultimately turned out to be the best from the draft - that is a mistake. Emma Quayle is an expert at picking the best at the time but has no idea like the rest of us as to what will prove to be the best when the dust settles in 4 or 5 years. I think we are on the same page C&B on this. The only thing I cannot answer is how much independent thought goes into the choices made. I am gobsmacked that Scully was universally proclaimed to be the best from the draft at that time. He had a very light frame and when he had the ball he only had one out of two weapons covered - excellent by hand but very average by foot. His greatest attribute was his ability to get to contest after contest but his impact once there was and still is limited. Our recruiters would have been lynched if we had not taken him but there were a lot of boxes that he didn't tick. I don't watch TAC football but from day one you could see - at least with Trengove I get it. Hard at it. Bigger body - when fit in the first 2 years, neat disposal and good pair of hands. I wonder if recruiters are swayed by the hype ? Or is it truly just a matter of the best 18 years old do not always go on to be great 22 year olds.

Didn't really know what it was so I had to look it up - I think I am one of those them there things as well.

You have been to Tramp - have a dettol bath immediately

only three I blame Schwab I blame Neeld I blame Jack Watts ( amended for accuracy)
-
But "Could be anything" is more accurate as it means he could be a gun or a spud

I love your optimism - just struggling a little with your realism. I can't remember reading once where the pundits had Brayshaw "dominating" so early. Salem was not a "wonderful player" when he was fit - some nice cameo's yes from the first year player and hope to see more progress. Toumpas a class act when fit - he has been underwhelming so far. I will not write him off and hope to see improvement but he ain't a class anything at this stage.
-
If he was in the side, he would be taking the place of others I would prefer to be playing. We drafted Cross and Vince to help out Jones as the seniors in the midfield - I don't think we need another.
-
Fyfe was not Freo's first choice so you can even claim that they made a mistake but got lucky.
-
The recruiters don't get five years ! The finger is already being pointed at the recruiters over Toumpas and that is after 2 seasons !
-
We can have varying opinions as to him being "elite" but you are not factoring in what he brings to field, the club and the group without even kicking/touching the ball. His intensity and desire and yes, leadership is A+.

yes ?

Again... All she is doing is guessing the order at which they will be called out. That doesn't make her the best in the business at picking talent. That makes her the best in the business at getting information as to what is considered the best at a given moment in time with input from clubs and recruiters she talks to. The best in the business is the analyst who had Oliver Wines at pick one. Or who had Bontempelli going higher or who had Fyfe as top 3 draft pick.

I have come to the conclusion that we the supporters ( ably aided by the media) have the wrong emphasis and expectation on the draft. I think the recruiters got it right with Morton, Scully, Trengove, Watts ( you can debate NikNat) and Toumpas. They were considered the best available by most scribes and experts at the pick we took them at the time we took them. The problem is that we have limited exposed form ( 18 year olds) with no real knowledge as to whether they will develop into top line footballers or if more moderately rated footballers will turn out to be far superior ( think Fyfe). Add to that the clubs the high draft picks go usually lose more than the win, may have poor development, poor coaching and no real leaders or senior mentors to help the kids develop. So we expect these highly rated kids to turn out to be world beaters when in reality there will be busts in the top 3 that have happened almost every draft and will continue happen. Will we moan if Pickett turns out to be the best of the bunch, taken one pick lower than us ?

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRISTIAN PETRACCA

I'm in the "wait and see" camp on this - but the points you make are pivotal. Get them right and we will have very good footballers on our hands. I am excited because it appears to me we have the structures in place to make this happen. -
You can factor a CBA increase into the new contract.
