  1. Reserve matches to be played before the main game feels like bit of an antidote to AFLX
  2. I agree with almost everything you wrote aside from the vomiting on Tom Scully as if it was a bad thing.
  3. Yep sorry. Out of 280+ comments there was not one comment that supported this abortion of an idea that is AFLX https://mobile.twitter.com/AFL/status/1074212533379072000?ref_src=twsrc^tfw|twcamp^tweetembed|twterm^1074212533379072000&ref_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.afl.com.au%2Fnews%2F2018-12-16%2Ffour-aflx-captains-reveal-their-team-logos
  4. A number of people in the AFL comments section have pointed out Dangerfield’s hypocrisy in all this. Of the 280+ comments when I saw it this morning there was not one in favour. Literally not one.
  5. This makes last years AFLX look like a genius idea. My only hope is that we offer not one player and then Dangerfield does a shoulder and we will see how long this [censored] concept lasts for. Imagine the uproar from Carlton if Cripps gets injured. You can handle injuries, just, if they are playing for your side but to have one in a ‘made-for-tv spectacular’ would be a travesty. My AFLX idea is to get the AFL executive each tied to a X and we could pick players (mine would be Sam Frost) and he can kick torps from 2m into said executive. You score by how close ball impacts nut. Just shows how out of touch the AFL is. This is [censored]!
  6. I know how you felt Hemingway. Cairns often gets State swimming teams in winter training at the fancy, FINA certified Tobruk pool. One morning I was training in the lane next to some girl wearing an Australian cap who could not of been more than 17 years old. I was doing 200m freestyle sets. She was doing butterfly kick, no arms, just kick and was still going past me. And I’m pretty sure it was just her warm up. For me it doesn’t matter if it is a stage show or sport it is always a privilege to watch someone who is truly world class. I am no great swimmer but she could have been a different specie.
  7. Sicily is also easy to dislike. In my top five memorable moments from the Geelong and Hawthorn finals was Melksham’s last quarter mark against the Hawks and Petracca’s subsequent laughing pisstake towards Sicily (from 15.46)
  8. A lot of water needs to go under the bridge first but I assume Bradtke is being eventually groomed for a Daniher type role
  9. And then you would have to take out Simpson (34 y.o) and Murphy from Carlton which would drop the ave age too. Really the whole thing is a bit dumb. The difference between Essendon who are 5th on the age ladder and the Swans who are 15th is less than 3 months which is bugger all in reality. As Diamond Jim said the average age of players who actually played AFL for us this year with an allowance for games played would be more interesting but even then it would probably be much of a muchness
  10. That is handy company our Clarrie is keeping; Dangerfield, Dusty, Fyfe and Franklin. Given it is over a two year period you would think even a marginal improvement in ‘19 would see him rated very close to #1
  11. If Victoria Park is actually contaminated and potentially dangerous to the players health would that rule us out but the Bombers in?
  12. And isn’t the realisation that TMac may turn out to be a more valuable forward than Hogan just mind blowing. I know that are from the different draft years but I’m guessing there isn’t a recruiter in the land who would have looked at them both as 17 year olds and thought I prefer the uncoordinated kid from country Victoria. I appreciate it is an extreme case but it does highlight the unpredictable nature of the draft, particularly for talls
  13. An Austin Bradtke training update would be appreciated Saty What are his skills like? How tall now? I assume he is fairly athletic given his basketball background. Cheers in advance
  14. And doesn't he look ecstatic! I imagine it is how its meant to be but the further down the track, the less unhappy I am that he left
  15. Toby has a touch of the Matthew Whelans about him - hard to catch, neat kick and apparently likes to stick a tackle. There is also a physical resemblance. Sign him up
  16. I normally enjoy reading your posts; they are often eloquent and thoughtful. This one not so.
  17. You would never forgive yourself if you gave up the opportunity to be at the G to watch us win a flag.
  18. I know it is not the first time this sentiment has been expressed but the Club had decided before the end of the season that both parties would be better off if Jesse was to head back West. This is coming from an ex 20+ year employee and a life member of the MFC
  19. Harmes really is the success story of 2018. Others who are in the 2nd to 3rd tier group of players at the club must be looking at him and thinking ‘if that bloke can do it there’s no reason I can’t’. Harmes and Brayshaw stepping up big time and made such a huge difference to the side. My two picks to step up in ‘19 are OMac. Will go into the season as a 23 year old with 60+ games under his belt who should have grown into his 198cm body. Depending on match ups and with Lever and May coming into the backline Oscar may find himself on the likes of Brown, Daniher, Cox and Hipwood or even forward on occasions where he often played as a junior. He has improved every year he has been with us and reckon he can go to another level Stretch. It probably is bit of a make or break year for Billy whose star has fallen as best mate’s ANB has risen. Stretch was playing the best footy of his short career before getting injured. Hopefully something had clicked and he will pick up that form again next year. You get the feeling he won’t die wondering and will prove his worth
  20. Max kicked 13.12 this season (thought it would be more) and has 51.40 over his career. Don’t know about set shots but can’t remember him having too many snaps or shots on the run
  21. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/video/2018-10-23/media-conference-steven-may Thanks for that Ron. I went back and had a look again and you are right it is a ripper. Longer at 9 minutes and more in depth than your usual 3 minutes of cliches
  22. A reasonable summary and explanation of the draw by Jake Niall https://www.watoday.com.au/sport/afl/afl-s-2019-fixture-punishes-clubs-as-much-as-it-helps-20181101-p50ddg.html
  23. Yep playing the MND/Daniher match against Essendon seems the sensible and obvious thing to do. Could become as big as QB and Anzac Eve. I don’t know why it hasn’t happened as it benefits all parties.
  24. Absolutely. We draft Kelly and then we perhaps win, or who knows lose, a couple of games and we end up with different picks down the track and we end up not picking Brayshaw or can’t upgrade to get Oliver. Very happy with where we are at. Having said that I would throw everything at getting Kelly next year. He is my favourite non Melbourne player
  25. I suppose it is better to play Port Rnd 1 on a Saturday and get 40,000 rather than a Rnd 14 Sunday twilight match and get 23,000.
