Something to do with SA making the provisions that Adelaide could fly in and fly out to do that match if Melbourne isolated for 60hrs prior to the match. Complete BS in my opinion, could understand PERHAPS a 24-48hr isolation but really there's not much about what SA are doing at the moment that makes much sense. That those olympic athletes are being forced to quarantine (albeit at home) for a further 14 days after returning from a 14 day quarantine hotel in Sydney is just ridiculous. Boy oh boy wow wee! early days in both games but if these results continue this could be huge! And what is actually interesting is that if we win tomorrow (we need to do our job as well) that would mean that the top 4 apart from us are looking in shaky form, the other top 8 should feel confident of causing a boil over second week of the finals.

I’m a bit the same in that I’m surprised they’re considering ditching the bye, I guess they might feel if they can see what’s happening immediately they know more and feel more confident. Whereas if they keep the bye it could get better but it could get worse. What a world we live in! 🙄

I have wondered about the downside to North/Hawks losing Tassie meaning there could be competition for our Alice Springs matches. I would hope that the groundwork we have done there would count for something but as they say money talks, BS walks. The disgust at GC/GWS getting a team doesn’t actually account for the fact there is infinitely more growth potential in those two markets compared with Tassie. Sydney and Brisbane took decades to stand on their own feet and that was with the grounding of South Melbourne and Fitzroy. The AFL view the money being poured in there as short-mid term pain for long term gain. Thinking about it now it’s funny but the best time that AFL could’ve pushed into Tassie would’ve been during the 90s (hate to say but I think we would’ve been a big target!). Now, without the allure of an extra game for TV rights the 19 teams would just be a drag on the competition. So they either wait until 20 teams is a possibility, or they get a team sent down there. Either way I can’t see it happening any time soon.

So where will finals be then? There wasn’t any mention of an MCG GF so I guess that’s off the table now. I find it bizarre that Perth are almost the only ones being properly considered to host the GF, Adelaide Oval is a stunning venue and would be a great location to host. I wonder is the treatment of the olympic athletes that had to double quarantine has made that impossible now.

I really would’ve liked Weid to come in for this game, very little pressure to perform, it could’ve been just the tonic. Will be very interesting to see if he sticks around.

It’s interesting you mention AFLW because I reckon the smarter way the Tassie government could’ve gone about this is ensure that when the AFL was looking at expanding the women’s game they made sure that Tassie was getting a team. That could’ve generated interest for the game down that way and if done correctly could’ve stamped their authority to say we deserve a men’s team. Not unlike the tactic Football Australia are trying to employ by using the Women’s Football World Cup to promote the game as being attractive for a future men’s World Cup. I personally think that Tasmania have overplayed their hand and will now be without AFL matches for at least a few years.

I think of everything about Jacko the thing he has improved so much at this year is his contested marking. Early days this season he got to plenty of contests but his hands never looked confident, now looking back at the marks he took against WC he just looks a totally different kettle of fish. The sky is the limit on him, I have never been this excited about a young KPP/ruckman at our club.

They had to know that this was going to be the result of the report. Any person with a brain would tell you that a 19th club does nothing for revenue to the AFL and in fact would only be a financial hinderance. Therefor relocation, or an additional 20th team, would be the next best option. I think send Hawthorn down there, I'll be glad to see them out of the Victorian based clubs! But seriously, if he really wants to play chicken with the AFL he can do it. Play zero AFL games down there, and instead throw everything at either NRL or the A-League to give them their own tier 1/2 sporting club. Would be very interesting to see Hawthorn's and Kangaroos's bottom line after they lose that.

I think this is a mistake personally, said it after the recent expansion as well. Why are they rushing this? The talent pool needs to be built, there needs to be the grass roots injection to get the players playing at a standard that people go to watch and say without a doubt "they are the best of the best". Instead I feel like there is going to be backward step where we watch matches and get frustrated while others mock it. These other clubs had their opportunity and turned their noses up at it, Melbourne and the Bulldogs pushed the case early seeing that women deserved a league to call their own. Anyway, rant over. Hopefully we're able to get a premiership before the talent gets raided.

Good lord what a mess, it was messy before this year with different clubs having allegiances but using them in different ways. Now in COVID times with it spread across state borders it's just impossible to work. Really sucks too because it's important for development and older players getting a last chance at pushing their case.

Not quite, $1000 for Salem, $3000 for Selwood. But it's still an absolute joke as $3000 is chump change to a guy like Selwood, and for Salem a totally accidental, zero malice incident gets on a similar pegging. I am 100% of the opinion that Christian needs to be replaced as MRO, his favouritism for the star players is disgraceful.

IMO of the interchange bench, the final four would be Jackson, Hibbo, Jordon, Weiderman. Sparrow sub. I can picture a scenario where Weid doesn't come in, we could play a variation of Gawn/Jacko in the forward line more and make Melksham a link man. It could be a way to experiment should an in game situation arise where we lose Tommy to injury. But personally I feel like we are a structure team, and playing Weid gives us the chance to keep that structure. Interestingly Brown's mobility (while not fast) has actually been quite good, he's been getting up the ground quite well and even taking some very valuable marks on the wing. The option could be for him to play a bit more of the TMac role and Weid be the one pushing harder towards goal.

I maintain that the system is very broken when Selwood's deliberate head high bump is given a fine when Greene's act which while reckless was in the act of protecting himself and is done multiple times ever game gets a suspension. Dangerfield (not blaming him) slipped at the worst moment which made the contact to the throat, while Selwood was in control of his actions at all times. As for Yeo, you have to imagine the floodgates will open up after Viney and the TV cameras will be on the lookout. I hope the club treads carefully, but we should be well within our rights to ask for clarification on what Jack did that was different to other cases.

It is totally fair of them (as a part of Australia) to feel like they should have a team in the Australian Football League, strangely I think the AFL have done more damage to their brand by having a team on the Gold Coast rather than promoting it. It's not so much their fault as they have done literally everything they could to make them successful but that place is where sports teams go to die. They can continue to have access to all the best kids for decades but the club has no soul and no pride in itself, so when someone says "play for the jumper" it means absolutely nothing to them. That said, in poker terms, they are pot committed and have no choice but to push forward with them. So the talk of relocating GC to Tassie is not going to happen. The talk of the Kangas shifting to Tassie is equally unlikely, despite the pit they are in there is enough power to stop it from happening. If they weren't going to take the incredible deal the the AFL offered them to go to GC (mistake IMO they turned that down) then I can't see them taking a deal that would take them to Tasmania. For me the only viable option to get Tasmania a team is to create a 20th team at the same time to get an additional match for TV rights. Eddie Everywhere put forward the idea of a NT team, that would seem logical and would boost tourism to Darwin and Alice Springs but I also would be concerned that there would be low interest in players playing there (same with Tasmania).

He gets away with it simply because there isn't the same consistent footage that Viney had against him, those photo's show that it definitely wasn't below the neck (if that's been the excuse thrown around).

In Weid, Hibbo Out AvB, Hunt Jones sub Side point, what is the club doing to give match practice without the VFL? We used to hear about the scratch matches being played last year but doesn’t seem to be the case this year.

I know it’s even for all but that would be really unfortunate for Hunt as this is precisely what the pre-finals bye is there for. I’m surprised the coach of the retirement home down the highway isn’t kicking up a stink about the idea though. They’d be desperate to get their players some time off (so they can visit their grandkids as well). As for Tommy if there is the slightest doubt than put him on ice and bring in Weid. I remember Sam came in at the end of 2018 and put in a hell of a last 4-5 weeks. Give him a crack against Adelaide so Tom can be cherry ripe for Geelong.

Not yet but very keen to watch it before the weekend. I’m even more sad about not being able to get to this match following these events. I would’ve loved nothing more than to see Kozzie pick the ball up, zoom towards goal, and nail it with the players getting around him and the G erupting with cheers for him. We love you Kozzie!

Eddies form lately isn’t great with fixture related things, he predicted Melbourne vs Adelaide in Darwin which was flatly rejected and false.

Liverpool won the premiership for the first time in 30 years in front of no fans. It sucked that no one could be there to enjoy it and the fans (rightly or wrongly) celebrated outside the ground as it happened. But I still enjoyed it and got great pleasure out of that moment of them breaking the drought.

That is really rotten luck for Hunt, he’s really looked a lot more settled this year and has used his outside run well (particularly when he partners with his twin). This is without a doubt a loss. Hopefully he can get himself back in for some finals later on.

I really thought Petty was pushing his luck, I think your being very kind. Personally I thought it was 50, but they got some bizarre free kicks in the last quarter to I’d say it evened up.

I think the majority now would be of the opinion that what Goodes went through was totally not on. I felt (at the time) like there was more to the story than simply it being racism, but regardless of whatever the “reason” people had for booing him the guy was a human being asking people to stop because it caused him pain. That was the mob taking pleasure in his pain, it was disgusting to watch and it actually became it’s own storyline of “will the crowd boo him?” It was sad to watch someone go through it regardless of his standing in the game. Wow….I just…wow. I mean I know there different standards and expectations, but that’s absolutely awful. How he didn’t just clock Summers out cold right then and there is amazing. Disgusting doesn’t even begin to describe that clip.
