  1. My point is that they are “demanding” a license, but the people aren’t turning out. I would’ve thought if they were trying to put their best case forward the leaders pushing this would be telling the people to prove it’s something they really want. There’s at least growth logic towards having teams in GWS and GC. There is no growth in Tasmania aside from if NT get a license as well there is an extra game.
  2. Yep, it seemed extreme at the time but who knows how many people that may have prevented for interacting with these cases. Can’t see any world where the GF is in Melbourne now, I personally say make it in Adelaide. Beautiful venue and it’s more central to Australia so in the even people are able to to travel to it they aren’t crossing multiple time zones and forking out huge $$$ to get there. I also can’t imagine I’ll be able to go to a game now for the rest of the year. I was really hoping to get to at least one match this season but the Delta outbreaks just seem to make it unlikely. But hey who knows, they get on top of this latest outbreak like it looks like QLD have done and there may be some hope.
  3. Great start to the weekend! What will Brad Scott whine about in his post-match presser? If GWS had any fans they would tear their hair out at being able to beat Melbourne and Geelong away but lose to GC and Hawthorn.
  4. GWS choking big time.
  5. How was that not holding the man at the other end for GWS AND incorrect disposal from the Geelong defender?!
  6. Daniel subbed out through concussion from Selwood’s bump. He HAS to be suspended. Minimum one week (give him an extra week to be sure 😉).
  7. Geelong are the walking wounded tonight, Giants have just lost Daniel but they should have the fresher legs.
  8. Selwood’s (to me) should be closer looked at than Green’s. He ran past the ball, collected the player head high, it was pure luck he didn’t get him worse. The action should be looked at, not the result.
  9. I felt that for the action Fritta was very lucky, but given recent results with the tribunal he should be fine. A lot more split second than Buddy who shifted the ball to the other arm in order to elbow the tackler. Consistency says that he shouldn’t get suspended.
  10. If there’s someone from Tassie to tell me otherwise the recent crowds were unimpeded by COVID restrictions, that being the case they voted with their feet. I get it, Hawks and North are doing poorly right now but if they genuinely wanted a team they should be turning out in their droves. The crowds have been very average for most years they’ve had games there, if it had been up to me they would’ve got their crack instead of GWS or GC but really they aren’t showing enough of a reason to grant them a license.
  11. The wet conditions concern me, we have looked our most vulnerable when our marking defenders are having to deal with the wet ball. The fact that they are tall helps but this will be a game that Bowey and Salem will have to be really switched on. I would also love to see our midfield actually win some centre clearances to give our forwards first use. I don’t know why but I have this feeling that Melksham will come in. We all know that he’s a favourite of the selection committee and it would be nice to have a good ball user going inside 50, but then we also need to bring high pressure and that is not Melks game.
  12. The ref appeared to be on the books of the states at the end then (saying that in jest). A clear foul that should have gone our way to have a set piece at the end goes the way of the USA. Then we aren’t allowed to play the corner at the end despite the amount of time the USA wasted at the end. I didn’t watch most of the game as I was out experiencing the last little bit of freedom for a bit. Well done to the Matilda’s in any case, I like their manager, I think they’ve got a very decent chance at mixing it with the best at the upcoming World Cup. They should be very proud of their efforts, but for some very questionable ref calls they might well have taken home a medal of any colour.
  13. I remember that when it happened there was an odd hush on the MCG at the time, the sound of it was absolutely awful. I could not believe King got off scott free, it was reckless, stupid, and clearly dangerous. Meanwhile Brent Moloney got 2 weeks in the same year for “potential impact” on Bartel but didn’t actually touch him.
  14. If WA were willing to look into pathways for people for interstate people to come to the game without it be a complete farce I’d be comfortable with it being moved there if needs be. But if Victoria has one case and they deem that enough to shut (which they have in the past) then I’d avoid them at all costs. Adelaide to me presents the better option, similar sized venue and have been playing ball better with other states. Ultimately if there are two Victorian teams and they ca get the same crowd allowance as it would be elsewhere then it needs to be at the G.
  15. Jeez the Hawks and North have a MASSIVE conflict of interest on this vote to the point it makes it farcical. GC and GWS as well because suddenly they won’t be the bouncing baby boys of the the AFL.
  16. Well as someone who lived overseas and bought a 3-game membership for zero return I would disagree with that. Especially for the price I’m paying. Anything below $100 shouldn’t be counted so “free” memberships definitely shouldn’t be counted, nor should pet memberships. I can’t fully trust those figures though. 30,000 GWS members (by the way the colours on that ladder graphic are awful for reading) can’t be real.
  17. I do think it’s a bit rich for Dangerfield to be talking about something not being a “great look”, when he’s managed to get off from eye gouging which is one of the dirtiest actions you can see on a footy field.
  18. For me I reckon bring Jones in for Viney. Tell the old timer this is his chance to get his way back into the team leading into finals. 2 weeks to prove he’s not done with.
  19. I’ve likes his year as a winger, he’s played a massive role that is so underrated on this forum. But for the sake of a bit of flexibility come finals time I wouldn’t say no to him getting some time in the guts vs WC. The question becomes who takes his defensive wingman role?
  20. Nailed it, one week would have been consistent and fair based on previous incidents of serious misconduct. The extra week is because of the optics and the hoopla that followed when examined by the media pundits. I didn’t like it, I think is crossed a line so he deserved time of the sideline. But it seems inexplicable that one of the points of conjecture was where the impact was being felt on Collins, so why not have him provide some clarity? The decision not to challenge says they don’t have any new evidence to provide. No point in wasting anyone’s time, shame he can’t get back to Melbourne early. Some time with the family could do his mind some good.
  21. Deviating the thread back to the original story, is he still playing for Old Brighton? Only ask because it’s just down the road from me.
  22. Look, I think it was worth 1 week and had it been one of the usual darlings that would have been the case at most. Viney has a reputation, not as a dirty player but someone who plays on the edge. But as usual, the tail has wagged the dog with the media creating a storm that left the AFL tribunal feeling they had to come down hard on Viney. To be clear, I feel this is a very dirty act from Jack so I don’t think it’s undeserved. I hope he uses this time to really reflect on his recent form and look to address some big issues. The most frustrating thing would be that he’s been sent to Perth for nothing, much better for him to be with his family in Melbourne e than in Perth quarantine. The tribunal has made a statement though, deliberately striking someone is fine but what Jack did is worth 2 weeks. Work that one out.
  23. Sad way to lose foe the Matilda’s. It was pretty even, both teams had their chances and in the end a bit of luck for Sweden got it done. Baffling decision from the ref to award that soft free kick to deny us the opening goal. Really silly from Carpenter (who’s been good all tournament), frustration got the better of her and now she misses the bronze play off game (and I think if we somehow beat the states she doesn’t get a medal). Still they’ve done Australia proud, setting themselves up for a red hot crack at the World Cup.
  24. This I totally agree with.
  25. Yes thuggery. He is driving his elbow into the guys neck for longer than you usually see, it does happen almost every match but not usually for the length of time that he’s doing it. The GC player isn’t innocent, and I suspect that will form part of our defence but he didn’t need to do it. FWIW I think it’s worth a 1 week suspension, perhaps he’ll get a fine but because there has been a media response on this and all too often the tail (ie the media) wags the dog (the tribunal) I can picture more weeks. Perhaps you can pull out some of your VHS’s tapes and watch the 80s to remind you of the “good ol’ days”.
