I remember when a 'friend of Tom Scully' said he would stay! Although Watts is a talented player, loosing a bloke who makes public comments like "we dont have a joel Selwood or a Luke Hodge to lift us when other teams get a run on" cant be seen as a huge loss. Loosing Sylvia for nothing would be worse

Red & Blue jumper, not the poxy white one! IMO our jumper does not clash with the dockers at all, yet we will see the alternate strip worn. Perhaps we have a contractual obligation with NB to wear the clash jumper a certain number of times each year to help with merchandise sales?

Should the Board and the FD join Demonland?
DemonWA replied to michael collins's topic in Melbourne Demons
Chill out nut job! In Internet culture, a lurker is typically a member of an online community who observes, but does not actively participate -

Should the Board and the FD join Demonland?
DemonWA replied to michael collins's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'd expect that people employed by the club check this site every now and then, so perhaps the Board and the FD are already members?! I wouldnt expect that they post, but i'm sure they lurk around the place from time to time to guage the sentiment held from a very passionate group of supporters. -
Watts will only leave if we are happy to see him go IMO. Which would mean a reasonable trade. I just cant see it myself. If he was playing champagne footy in a garbage side then yes, i could see him wanting out but in reality he is playing average footy in a garbage side. He'd also be confused as hell about what the media say about him. 9 days out of 10 he's a whipping boy - doesnt try hard enough and needs to get the best from himself, but then every blue moon some meathead will write an article about how he's a legend in the making that is being held back at the MFC. Hypocrisy at its finest. MFC will offer him some serious coin in his next contract because we have no other decent players to use the money on. I think he'll stay

Say what you like about Davey but when his playing days are over he'll be remembered as the pioneer of forward pressure and a great of the club

5 Years Says Neeld - Who is going to cop that?
DemonWA replied to Mongrel Dee's topic in Melbourne Demons
Was it taken out of context though? He never said the words "it will take 3-5 years for us to be any good" but the implication was the same IMO. Neeld was reiterating and agreeing with what Bomber Thompson and McCartney had said mid week - that players take 3-5 years or 60-100 games to be able to compete at a consitant AFL level. In the same breath Neeld also highlights how low our average games experience is (~50 vs Gold Coast), and notes how many players in our 22 have less than 50 games to their name. You have to consider all of these statements together. Whilst he never said it will take 3-5 years for us to be any good. The reality is it will take another ~3-5 years until the majority of the team have reached the number of games which he reckons they need to have played to play consistant footy. ie. it will take 3-5 years for us to be consistantly good. -
oops, thought Syvlia was a restricted FA!

All of those scenarios are likley to be true IMO however Chippa wanting a trade, and actually being traded are two different things entirely Same goes for Watts too. If we can work out an amicable trade then it may well be worth considering especially seeing as Carlton have plenty of mids that would interest us. If we cant work out a trade and Watts wants to walk to the draft then we pick him... or he ends up at GWS! Sylvia is the only one of the 3 where we cant have much say in the outcome. But even in this case, if we want him enough we can keep him. We just might have to pay [censored] cash

Satyriconhome, can you take this type of chit-chat to personal messages please? No need to post it in the main topics. I'm growing tired of you trying to have D&M's with every second poster that replies to your posts. I'm assuming im not alone. -

Sounds like Neeld is back tracking to me. -
Good questions McQueen. I'm passing on the Western Demon's function preffering many pints at the Vic Hotel The Dinner with the Dees that they used to do were always good nights though

The game i am referring to was round 16, 2010 i think. Beamer got a corky early on. If only we could have a 3rd quarter like that these days! FREO DEES 6.3 Q1 1.2 9.8 Q2 3.5 10.10 Q3 9.8 11.16 Q4 10.11 (82) Total (71)

I rember a couple of years ago we put up a pretty god fight against the dockers. we were coming back strongly and in Watts had kicked straight people would have sung his praises as a AFL forward and we might have even pinched the game. Alas

Why do we have a VFL review weekly and no AFL review
DemonWA replied to DeeSpencer's topic in Melbourne Demons
What else do you need? We all ready have the swag of puff pieces from Burgatron (Monday Analysis, 5 Points from round X, typed up versions of the post match video interviews etc etc) + the Craig Report. The website has enough nothing articles without a watered down player analysis of the AFL side -
I'd like to see Jamar dominate the ruck. Zack Clark & Hannath should be no match for him - and i hope thats the mindset he comes into the game with I'd also like to see Nathan Jones have an impact even with the hard crowley tag but more than anything i would like to see Ballentyne laid out by a Tapscott bump (or similar)

I expect to see this type of article written about every one of our players who meets the following criteria; Is a good player has less than 2 years left on their current contract Apart from Scully & Rivers, i think the club has been able to retain the players that they have wanted to retain in recent times. However Frawley, Watts & Sylvia are very important to our list and i see getting all 3 of these guys to recomit will be a challenge. Aaron Davey has served the club well, and whilst i dont think we should offer him a large $$ contract or a long contract extension, if he keeps up the current form i dont see why we couldnt offer him a year by year type thing. After all we were happy enough to be a retirement home for Rodan....
-
Agreed. I dont like seeing any of our players in other club's colours. Seeing Beamer in the paddle pop lions outfit and Cam Bruce in the poos & wees are up there, but Sylvia in the black and white would be too much!
-
This is a question more than a comment; Are the AFL and its clubs more proffesional than NRL clubs, and therefore does being a CEO of an AFL club come with different issues than you would encounter than being a CEO at a NRL club? Without knowing the Melbourne Storm, i would have thought taking on the reigns of the MFC is a much greater challenge. Even during their offield sagas the Storm have always been a good team?

He's no longer a mod!

Silly post, the way i see it, the reality of the situation is that we cant afford to loso\e any of our good players. We can argue about whether he could have been better at other clubs or with a different attitude, but as it still stands he is a better player than most on our list. must keep IMO
-
Im sure Sylvia will be linked to plenty of teams before the seasons end, but i honestly hope he sticks with us and vica versa
-
Zac Clark / Jack Hannath combo

I also have very fond memories of that game! Brock played a great debut and Vardy and Robbo were slotting them from all angles in the wet!
