  1. Say what you like about Davey but when his playing days are over he'll be remembered as the pioneer of forward pressure and a great of the club
  2. Was it taken out of context though? He never said the words "it will take 3-5 years for us to be any good" but the implication was the same IMO. Neeld was reiterating and agreeing with what Bomber Thompson and McCartney had said mid week - that players take 3-5 years or 60-100 games to be able to compete at a consitant AFL level. In the same breath Neeld also highlights how low our average games experience is (~50 vs Gold Coast), and notes how many players in our 22 have less than 50 games to their name. You have to consider all of these statements together. Whilst he never said it will take 3-5 years for us to be any good. The reality is it will take another ~3-5 years until the majority of the team have reached the number of games which he reckons they need to have played to play consistant footy. ie. it will take 3-5 years for us to be consistantly good.
  3. oops, thought Syvlia was a restricted FA!
  4. All of those scenarios are likley to be true IMO however Chippa wanting a trade, and actually being traded are two different things entirely Same goes for Watts too. If we can work out an amicable trade then it may well be worth considering especially seeing as Carlton have plenty of mids that would interest us. If we cant work out a trade and Watts wants to walk to the draft then we pick him... or he ends up at GWS! Sylvia is the only one of the 3 where we cant have much say in the outcome. But even in this case, if we want him enough we can keep him. We just might have to pay [censored] cash
  5. Satyriconhome, can you take this type of chit-chat to personal messages please? No need to post it in the main topics. I'm growing tired of you trying to have D&M's with every second poster that replies to your posts. I'm assuming im not alone.
  6. Good questions McQueen. I'm passing on the Western Demon's function preffering many pints at the Vic Hotel The Dinner with the Dees that they used to do were always good nights though
  7. The game i am referring to was round 16, 2010 i think. Beamer got a corky early on. If only we could have a 3rd quarter like that these days! FREO DEES 6.3 Q1 1.2 9.8 Q2 3.5 10.10 Q3 9.8 11.16 Q4 10.11 (82) Total (71)
  8. I rember a couple of years ago we put up a pretty god fight against the dockers. we were coming back strongly and in Watts had kicked straight people would have sung his praises as a AFL forward and we might have even pinched the game. Alas
  9. What else do you need? We all ready have the swag of puff pieces from Burgatron (Monday Analysis, 5 Points from round X, typed up versions of the post match video interviews etc etc) + the Craig Report. The website has enough nothing articles without a watered down player analysis of the AFL side
  10. I'd like to see Jamar dominate the ruck. Zack Clark & Hannath should be no match for him - and i hope thats the mindset he comes into the game with I'd also like to see Nathan Jones have an impact even with the hard crowley tag but more than anything i would like to see Ballentyne laid out by a Tapscott bump (or similar)
  11. I expect to see this type of article written about every one of our players who meets the following criteria; Is a good player has less than 2 years left on their current contract Apart from Scully & Rivers, i think the club has been able to retain the players that they have wanted to retain in recent times. However Frawley, Watts & Sylvia are very important to our list and i see getting all 3 of these guys to recomit will be a challenge. Aaron Davey has served the club well, and whilst i dont think we should offer him a large $$ contract or a long contract extension, if he keeps up the current form i dont see why we couldnt offer him a year by year type thing. After all we were happy enough to be a retirement home for Rodan....
  12. Agreed. I dont like seeing any of our players in other club's colours. Seeing Beamer in the paddle pop lions outfit and Cam Bruce in the poos & wees are up there, but Sylvia in the black and white would be too much!
  13. This is a question more than a comment; Are the AFL and its clubs more proffesional than NRL clubs, and therefore does being a CEO of an AFL club come with different issues than you would encounter than being a CEO at a NRL club? Without knowing the Melbourne Storm, i would have thought taking on the reigns of the MFC is a much greater challenge. Even during their offield sagas the Storm have always been a good team?
  14. Silly post, the way i see it, the reality of the situation is that we cant afford to loso\e any of our good players. We can argue about whether he could have been better at other clubs or with a different attitude, but as it still stands he is a better player than most on our list. must keep IMO
  15. Im sure Sylvia will be linked to plenty of teams before the seasons end, but i honestly hope he sticks with us and vica versa
  16. Zac Clark / Jack Hannath combo
  17. I also have very fond memories of that game! Brock played a great debut and Vardy and Robbo were slotting them from all angles in the wet!
  18. Satryiconhome, you come across as a desperate groupie. Carry on big noting yourself at every opportunity .....
  19. I'm not talking about Australia's worst broadleaf pasture weed Echium plantagineum! I'm not highlighting our abysmal record at the ground since it was renamed Paterson Stadium in 2011 or our all time win loss record there of 8 wins and 21 losses. The biggest area of concern for me, or the 'Paterson's Curse'. is the way we seem to be strangled by the press/zone (even more so than usual) whenever we play on the long but slightly narrower ground. We struggle to keep possesion of the ball coming out of defence as it is (our kick in's were turned over at will again against the tigers), but this is highlighted even more than usual when we play at Subi. I'd like to see a few more tricks than just boming it blindly to the flanks to a 1 on 1. maybe give Dunny the licence to try a few torpedo's up the guts? My lasting memory of watching games at Patersons over the last 4-5 years is that the game is always played in our defensive half, we just cant get through a zone on the narrow field! Sitting in the 2nd tier at the City end with the rest of the demons supporters you get a good veiw of every other quarter.... The dockers having a good chunk of their quality players out injured (Pavlich, Sandilands, Griffen, Hill, Walters & Bradley) but our list of outs isnt great reading either (Grimes, Clark, Viney + Sylvia suspended). Obviously Jamar needs to show his experience and dominate the ruck contests, and our defence need to keep up their strong form and keep their depleated forward line to a reasonable score. Not expecting a win but I would like to rock up to a game at Subiaco and have occasional moments to cheer about for a change!
  20. Maybe its just becasue he has been injured so i havent seen him play for a while, but when i think of JMac i think of over enthusiastic tackles that almost alwasy result in free kicks against us (in the back, head high etc) and turnovers by foot!!
  21. In 2008 Davey was fit enough that he got to almost every uncontented marking situation to recieve a handball and distribute by foot. If he's fit enough to play this role again it could be worth a try. From my perspective Jones has been getting these handball recieves this year and thus his numbers have been good. I think Davey's game yesterday was the right mix of time spent in the 50m arc and time playing with more freedom. If byrnes comes back in it will be interesting to see what happens. IMO byrnes is probably a better candidate to play more midfled time than Davey at the moment.
