  1. old dee, on 03 April 2011 - 10:50 PM, said: Could not agree more Jaded. I came home had something to eat and a single malt so I would let the anger flow out before I turned on the computer. What I saw today: I saw a team that was total out classed In saw a team that should have been out of the game by quarter time. I saw 22 melbourne players none of whom I can say beat their opponent the majority of the time. I saw a team that could not clear the ball at kick ins and we had plenty of them to get it right. I saw a team that will not make the finals this year. I saw a team that is unfortunately a long way from being a power side. I saw a game plan that I do not believe our players have the skill to implement against good opposition. I saw 5 out of 21 players that could hold their heads up tonight, Tapscott, Bail,Martin, Rivers and Sylvia I saw a coach that is so composed it makes me puck. I saw My dream slip out by an additonal year. So back to the single Malt and dreams of 2015 before we can cut it with the likes of Hawthorn. Unfortunately have to agree with most of the above. Our blokes just have to learn to 'die for the cause' for 100 minutes and to do anything else is unacceptable. Bail ,Tapscott,Silvia seem to understand and are prepared to put their head over the ball and take what comes.Backward step tonight but not the end of the world.Lets hope the big lesson from tonight was that we were monstered in the second half and allowing ourselves to be monstered must not happen again for the rest of the season. Over to the coach and players to massively improve their engine room clearance work. We got smashed in the midfield. If not corrected immediately we'll get the heavy physicall pressure in this area dished up to us every week.
  2. I reckon its handy too JCB. It makes a statement.
  3. I dont remember a young Blake or Cox being all that co-ordinated early on in their careers either. He's essentially on the Rookie list and a very big unit. He also has a crack. We haven't got too many big blokes at the moment as far as I can see, so let's not be too hasty.
  4. I thought Jetta worked hard in the first quarter Condemned, including a decent 'softener' on Mc Evoy who is about double his size.I like that sort of stuff. Reckon we have still done okay with position pretty much as it was at half time. Just hope we run it out and would like a few of the more senior players to lift their intensity.A couple seem to struggle against the quicker sides.
  5. Competitive so far. Three or four skill errors with the feet that top sides will kill you on turnover. Jetta & Watts lively for kids, Bater needs to lift. We've done a lot worse. Green terriffic. Hope we can keep going at the same level for four quarters.Hope Grimey hasn't done a hammy.
  6. Gorringe 200cm according to reports. At the AIS, also apparently playing senior footy at Norwood, plus now All Australian. Ticking a few boxes.
  7. It occured to me that when your marching time in the AFL it's all a bit like doing the ...... gardening which is a rather sad analogy. Initially you have to get out the weeds and dead stuff. Then you have to acquire the new plants. Then you have to design the garden , plant the plants, feed and nuture them etc. Eventually they should look be pretty good. We've only just planted them but a few blossoms have alraedy appeared. Pretty soon it will be like Flemington on Cup Day!
  8. Think I'm with Rhino on this one. We would all love a "power forward" but I would have thought the last thing we would want to do after systematically putting together a great crop of younger/future players, is to pay over the odds and tip any out. Wouldn't want a Brock McLean scenario in reverse. Hawthorn, as with all clubs trade 'hard',so we would be up for plenty+ for a Roughead like trade. We are only half way through the season, we knew it wasn't going to be an easy year, but its been a building year. Scully, Trengove, McKenzie, Gysberts,Jamar have all come on and people like Blease and Tapscott enter the scene tomorrow. Throw in Liam and young Watts etc. We should be in a reasonable position at the trade table when the time comes at the end of the season and all the trading options are known. I wouldn't be getting to jumpy at this point.
  9. Absolutely agree. Can't hang a person for being passionate and as a result being disappointed with yesterday. 7-8 weeks without a win should challenge everyone and appart from the Collingwood ok result, seems to me performance has declined abruptly. Can't imagine this will be lost on the board who are ultimately accountable. They structured the club, appointed the coaches, recruiting staff etc.etc. So when they sit down to do their next review , they will no doubt canvass total club operations and performance. Off the field the results would seem to speak for themselves and the great man clearly galvanised the whole place. Wonder how he felt yesterday? In the end though, everything hangs off the playing direction the club is headed. That's what everything is all about. We simply want success and to be part of a successful club. We as supporters / members have been and continue to be patient, looking for the light at the end tunnell. We knew the journey would take time and have its ups and downs. But I'm not sure how the coaching staff/recruiters could explain a continuance of the recent decline in the second half, after such a promising start in the first. What's changed? We were told our list is good ( young yes I agree but so are Roos, Essendon's and Richmond's who all currently have momentum)Further we were told that was needed was games played and maturity? Our injuries have been no worse than others. So fear not about being passionate, I think you have a case and frankly would be quite surprised otherwise. It is not hard to see who is underperforming. We can kid ourselves if we like. The coaching staff have been given an opportunity second to none with draft picks over the past three years. Pretty soon if not already, surely it's reasonable that weekly incremental improvement should be evident.CC put them on notice to some degree I thought. Nonetheless the effort wasn't there by many yesterday and hasn't been for a few weeks. Geelong beat us up, Carlton beat us up, Adelaide were harder at the footy than us. How do you reckon St.Kilda will come at us? Have to agree with your comments I reckon you were on the money.
