  1. Terrific win, made more impressive by needing to come from behind and the fact that hanks' didn't have her usual impact. Worherspoon gets better every week and it's impossible not to love how Heath goes about her footy.
  2. They are big. And getting bigger. They just got nominated for a Grammy Award (best rock performance) I saw them at the Sydney Myer music bowl a few months back, which I think was close to a sell out.
  3. No, thankfully. Uhmed and aahed, but buses on my train line was the clincer as I couldn't get there by 6pm, when I figured they would shut it coz it would be full. Proved to be correct. Shows how popular they are.
  4. And there's no such song that is not decades old?
  5. If we were going to use an ancient song I'd rather we go back to a time when we were actually successful. Say, 1964. You really got me by the Kinks would do the trick nicely ('ahead of its time' is a much abused rock cliche, ditto 'influential' but both are very apt in this case - incredible song, its fuzzy guitar sound and stabbing chords remain a template in rock music, particularly grunge era rock. For context the number one single in 1964 in Australia was the ultra sugary pop of I saw her her standing there - with love me do on the b side - by the Beatles. Ooooh)
  6. Go to your account (just tap your avatar) and you'll see a list of actions. One is ignored users. Just compete the field asking who you want ignore.
  7. I think so. My hesitation is I reckon it will be full by 6pm smd I'm not sure if I can get there by then. Keen to see public figures, which are playing at Golden Plains.
  8. To reinforce that point, the support band, Public Figures, are a relatively new hard rock young female duo who bring a similar energy as Amy Taylor.
  9. Yep, will be nuts. One of the things that is amazing about Amy Taylor as a performer is she creates such an awesome, encouraging space for women to fully enjoy themselves, be themselves, express themselves and go wild should they want to - something that in my experience is very rare in the ultra-alpha male space at hard rock gigs. She takes no [censored] and is a feminist icon that isn't afraid of her sexuality and power. And she totally rocks.
  10. Yep - and on weekend the parks on the Avenue are free and not time limited (the Avenue boarders the cricket ovals opposite the zoo and is one street to the west of Royal Parade, which it runs parallel to)
  11. Its a free gig rjay - perhaps go along as an anthropological exercise.
  12. Playing a free gig at fed square tgis friday with an up and coming local rock band Public Figures. It will go off - and super, super packed - starts at 7:30 but I reckon they'll stop letting people in by 6pm such will be the interest (I saw ki g Gizzard lizard there are a few weeks ago and it was super packed - there'll be even more people for this gig)
  13. It's just sooo short sighted. It does my head in
  14. It's certainly been a long and winding road since then.
  15. Really? Two Victorian clubs , one big and the other big enough to ensure a 65k crowd at the G. And we only play one a year for 2 decades? That's bizarre.
  16. Could not disagree more Rjay. Out of interest have you seen them live? I could not count how many hard rock bands I've seen live. From aprox 1983 when i started regularly going to gigs, there very few seriously good hard rock bands who have toured Australia I've not seen. And Amyl and the Sniffers are right up there as one the very best rock bands I've seen live. The band, who toiled away for a decade in Melbourne before breaking out when they took London by storm a few years back is super, super tight and Amy Taylor is a force of nature. And powerful as all get out in terms of her personal politics and in your face anti misogyny. Far from being performatively outrageous she is one of the most honest, singular, real and direct rock performers ive ever seen live - up there with Mark Arm (Mudhoney), Iggy Pop, Rob Younger, Brendan Huntley (Eddie Current and the Suppression Ring), Nick Cave, Donita Sparks (L7) and Curt Cobain. But i guess that's the beauty of art - we all see and hear things differently.
  17. Are you sure they don't play Don't look back in anger after a loss?
  18. A big, big year then. Some other notable events: The Sunset Crater Volcano in what is now Arizona, USA, erupted for the very first time. This volcano is still there today! The Seljuk Turks, a powerful group from Central Asia, began to invade Anatolia (which is modern-day Turkey). They captured important cities like Caesarea and Ani. This marked the start of their expansion into this region. On June 9 1064, the city of Coimbra in Portugal was captured by King Ferdinand I of Castile (a kingdom in what is now Spain). Harold II, who would later become King of England, was shipwrecked in Ponthieu, Normandy (in modern-day France). He was then taken captive by Count Guy. The building of the famous Duomo (cathedral) in Pisa, Tuscany, Italy, began in this year. Borivoj II of Bohemia, who became a Duke of Bohemia (a ruler in what is now the Czech Republic) was born
  19. Damn - I wish i could say i went to Primary School in the 80s!
  20. One advantage of being old is that primary schools in the 1970s had a real emphasis on ensuring young people knew the difference between grammar and their grandmother.
  21. I sometimes reflect that music from say the mid 90s is now 30 years old which would be the equivalent of in say 1995 (when i was rocking out to Prodigy and the Chemical Brothers) listening to music from 1965. The top 10 hits in Australia in 1965 were: Shake, N' Bake - Normie Rowe & Playboys The Carnival Is Over - The Seekers Help! - The Beatles Rock and Roll Music - The Beatles Crying in the Chapel - Elvis Presley I'll Never Find Another You - Seekers Under the Boardwalk - The Rolling Stones The Wedding - Julie Rogers Mrs. Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter - Herman's Hermits Ticket to Ride - The Beatles
  22. Brilliant. Missed your work last preseason 666
  23. I think if he stays fit he will be a really important player for us next season.
  24. With his eyes I presume.
