  1. Have you seen him at Casey much @Damo? He's a big bloke, filling into his frame and he's dominated some games down there. He reads the ball in flight and the game very well, he generally kicks very well and he has terrific hands both in the air and on the ground. He's half way through his second year and has so much improvement left in him. On Saturday his disposal let him down twice that I saw but I loved his hands under pressure, his willingness to jump at the ball and his reading of the play. I think he'll be very good for us and will be ready soon. With Lever, May, Frost and Hore we have decisions to make. Does anyone know if he's played forward in juniors? I saw him against Brisbane in the JLT this year and he played relief ruck late in the game and did well. It made me wonder if he could play forward and relief ruck in the longer term in the seniors. Just a thought.
  2. I got there at the 20 minute mark of the second quarter - I can't get used to the different starting times! Chandler was on the bench when I got there and didn't return. But I've seen him a bit and like him. I think he does have the speed and he's a very good kick. I'm not sure he'll make it but he won't die wondering. KK: Looked pretty good to me. Got the ball a fair bit and used it okay considering the conditions which made it hard for everyone. I think the FD see him as a starting 22 player in the long run and he'll return before many think. The FD clearly want to get continuity into the team and if that means sacrificing a little performance they will do that. And we have 4 in the team on Saturday who aren't locks. JKH: Was very good from what I saw. Clean, faster than most, found the ball, got in good places and kicked it well. I don't know how the FD see him. I thought the was not the worst in Darwin but didn't hold his spot. His form at Casey has been very good. DK: Not a big man's day. We all want him to succeed but he's struggling. Lewis was outstanding. Far to good for this level and a terrific mentor to the young kids. Good on him for doing it, credit where credit is due. It was an awful game in awful conditions against a stand alone team hell bent on knuckling a few of our blokes. You'd think the VFL would put a stop to it. Williamstown do the same. It's not tough footy, just thug footy. You'd hope we'd be past that.
  3. I agree with you Dazzle. Why do you think the Club is looking to sign him?
  4. What a gratuitous tasteless unnecessary comment. And yet I suppose you abhor social media bullies.
  5. This has been a terrible year and I'd agree with much of what you've said other than there are credible alternative explanations which need to be factored into any discussion and in my view make your summation very emotive. Here are some of my observations/beliefs: 1. We very nearly, and should have, beaten WCE and Adelaide. The reality is we completely outplayed each of these teams other than on the scoreboard. And we did it with significantly compromised teams. WCE and Adelaide are good, if you can compete with them you're not far away. 2. We have a significant disconnect between our mids and our forwards which is hurting us. But the reality is that Jones, Oliver, Petracca, Harmes, Brayshaw and Viney all had significantly interrupted preseasons and therefore had no time to refine and develop this "connect". 3. For all that I'm sick to death of saying it (to myself), we are young. Almost all of our talent is young. Our over 25 year old players are Lewis, Jones, Garlett, Hibberd, Jetta, Melksham, Gawn, May, TMac, Frost, AVB and Viney. Compare that with Collingwood: Pendles, Varcoe, Mayne, Greenwood, Beams, Howe, Sidebottom, Thomas, Elliott, Treloar, Hosking Elliott, Adams, Crips, Grundy and Langdon. It's chalk and cheese. Fancy a mature team beating a team of kids. If you want a comparison of a team in a similar position look at Richmond. They did very well early with a few injuries but they reached a critical level and then they just fell apart. Big losses to North and a terrible thumping by Geelong. They just couldn't cope with the number of injuries and now look uncompetitive. There situation now is similar to what we've faced for much of the year. Collingwood are second on the ladder and we pushed them into the last quarter. I'm not saying we were ever going to win but we were very competitive and I think we were the better team over the last three quarters. They kicked 9 goals straight in the last half, we kicked 4.10. I acknowledge that much of that is where the goals are kicked from but the general view that we are uncompetitive and need a total overhaul is based on emotion and not rational analysis. Frankly, it's just not correct. We are a much better list than last year. Baker and Hore alone make us so and Lockhart has shown signs. Fritsch, after a slow start, has played very well the last few weeks and then you have May and Lever. Many have criticised the FD for bringing players back too quickly. It's being done because players benefit from playing with each other. That's where the "connection" comes from. Goody is putting a team on the field that will be a lot of our best 22 next year because he knows the more we play together the better we'll connect and the better we'll do. That's why Lever played on the weekend. It's not that hard to figure out. I'm not suggesting that we don't need to change some things. Some new voices in the assistant coaching department would be a good idea, a tweak to the game plan as every team will do, but this concept that we are a rabble is just plain wrong in my view. We need to see this year as it really is. We had a horribly compromised preseason, we had a terrible run of injuries early in the season and we played horribly compromised teams for much of that period. People will hate this but we've done okay given the hand we've been dealt; we've missed some good opportunities but we've put in some excellent performances. Hear is a list of our notable under 24's: Preuss, Salem, Kilodjashnij, Harmes, Petracca, Brayshaw, Lever, Hore, Fritsch, Weideman, Oliver, Baker and JSmith. When you look at that lot and think about it you'd be silly not to hold a fair degree of optimism for the not too distant future.
  6. @leave it to deever https://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2019-06-07/weideman-experiences-the-afls-dark-side I know you've probably read this and I know the majority won't change their behaviour but the more astute will. It's time we got serious about the realities of bullying on social media and realised its impact. I'm not having a crack at you LITD but it really is an issue. I know because I sponsored players at MFC for about 30 years and I've spoken to them about it. The sort of justifications you raised in your post are just not valid. I wish @Demonland would do something about the abuse this site is responsible for but I do understand that it's not easy to moderate.
  7. I’m an unabashed Weideman fan. Instead of concentrating on the missed shot at goal I’m concentrating on the fact that a 21yo key forward was able to take a contested pack mark against strong opposition in the dying moments of a knife edge game. Yeh, he missed the shot. I could go back over the years and show you every great player missing from dead in front. What a shocking moment for the kid and what a great learning experience. Bounce back Sam, you’ve a great opportunity in front of you to become a really good player and I for one am right behind you.
  8. Got you. We can say what we like cos they probably won't read it. Secondly they get abused at the games so we can do it here. Thirdly paid up members have the right to bully and abuse players on social media cos we've paid money. Finally it's okay cos they get abused in the papers as well. I'm not sure you've helped your cause.
  9. @prodee and @wiseblood I think you'll find they stopped posting because this is such an awful place after a loss and most of the comments and suggestions are extreme with many just plain dumb. Like me, I imagine they are after sensible comment (like Scoop above) and not emotional sentiment with no intellectual content. They read because there are some good posters, which is why I'm here now (because I saw the last post was by P-Man who I like). I don't know if it's been said before in this thread but whilst I'm very disappointed about last night I'm much happier than I was after the GWS game. We played well. We saw continued proof that Oskar will be a good player, we saw we can compete with a good team with our second string backline playing, and I mean our VFL backline playing bar perhaps one or two. May, Lever, Jetta, Salem and Hore playing and do you think we lose that game? The criticisms of JKH are silly. His second game since March and he was rusty. 22 possessions, 6 tackles and a few wonky kicks. Who would have thought? Viney to be dropped and is a one trick pony. Is that a thought you really want to read? What planet does that come from? 15 negative comments from Joeboy when we lost a game we completely outplayed the opposition in other than on the scoreboard. Really? It shouldn't surprise you that many of the better and more sensible posters just can't be bothered. I'd love to see how many people who talk about the dangers of social media and bullying posted in the Oscar thread.
  10. I agree it's debatable. What do you think?
  11. I see you're not an advocate for diversity of opinion. There is no telling if TGR is correct in his assertion that Lewis shouldn't be drafted. It's an opinion and one in hindsight that is easily defendable. I give Lewis a bare pass but I can fully understand those blokes that think he should never have come to the club. The fact that Lewis's addition to our list is so debatable actually shows that TGR, being in a small minority, had a lot more foresight than many given his addition was welcomed by most. Cards I can't find the "worm" but it's a stretch to say we belted them. My recollection is they were very close in the last quarter, perhaps a goal, and I was anxious (in an attempt to avoid the censor) that we'd lose. This was not belting. A belting happened in the Preliminary a week later. And we "had to get a player of his ilk into the club". I'd like to see the justification of that! In all the good that he may have done he's certainly demonstrated how to be an arrogant toool and look after your own best interests firsts. I've seen nothing to suggest Lewis thinks the "team first" ethos at MFC is something he should follow. Hodge was the player that would have been much more valuable.
  12. I don't take issue with what you've said but I'd do it again. Was Harvey available? I doubt it. What a shame Hodge wasn't the one we got. But IMO we were extremely unlikely to win a flag in Lewis's window (2 years) and he offered more than pick whatever in the ND. He did play some good games, he gave MFC a profile to attract others and many of the players have spoken of how good he is off the field. From the outside it's hard to tell but I give the trade a bare pass. As you say and I've said his on field leadership has been disgraceful both in his unwillingness to put his body on the line and his lack of discipline. I don't see how so many haven't seen it, but we're all different. I hope Goodwin has made a point of him to the group pointing out how his suspensions and 50m penalties have hurt the team and this is not acceptable. But I won't miss him when he's gone. He's a Hawthorn player (and what would you expect after 4 flags) who used us for superannuation. Big win for Lewis, bare break even for us. There, is that strong enough for you Rono?
  13. You can add Jetta, Brayshaw (back), Harmes (shoulder), Jones and Petracca who all had significantly interrupted preseasons as well. Basically our entire midfield bar Gawn and his form proves a point. And when Lever, May and others, who have been out for a long time come back they will be nowhere near their best. The majority of our ills go back to the fact that around 13 of the players that played in the Prelim had post season surgery. We should start planning for 2020, simple as that. And frankly I find the criticism of Misson baffling. Nobody knows the real situation regarding the injuries. Smith has OP, a repetition/overuse injury which a lot of players have struggled with. It wasn't the Brisbane game that injured him. Misson was at Sydney when they won their flag and they had virtually no injuries that year and he was at St.Kilda after that and was highly regarded. It's just silly to suggest that he doesn't know what he's doing.
  14. I get amazed that people only able to see Lewis as good or bad. I've never been a fan and said so early in his first year but it's silly to suggest he was a bad trade and he didn't bring some good things to the list and team. He's played some useful footy but he's never been great. My major disappointment with him has been his complete lack of discipline and on-field leadership. He's helped "direct traffic" at times and he's offered stability down back but leadership is "do what I do". He's exceptionally selective if and when he goes, he's given away countless dumb 50 meter penalties (remember the first game last year against Geelong that may well have cost us the game and a top 4 spot), he smashed Cripps behind play leading to suspension and arguably a spot in the 8 that year and he's acted like an arrogant twatt when questioned publicly on this lack of discipline. On balance I wouldn't change the Club's decision but he should and could have offered a whole lot more. Many here are excusing his latest indiscretion on the basis he wouldn't have been much good in Darwin, well I argue he could have been exceptionally valuable to the Casey side helping our very inexperienced youngsters learn and progress. The Club is more than the 22 in the seniors and he has let it down time and time again. When comparing Lewis at MFC and Hodge at Brissy is damning to Lewis. I think he should stay at Casey for the rest of the year given where we are. With players coming back that's the most likely outcome. TBH, I can't think of a Melbourne player I've liked less but that doesn't mean I don't recognize some of the good things he's done for us.
  15. I think DS makes a good point in his post Titan. Oliver, Brayshaw, Viney, Jones and Harmes all had very interrupted preseasons and it has taken them until now (pretty much) to reach anything like last years form. Whilst I too am very pleased we look like getting some soldiers back let's not kid ourselves that they will be anywhere near their best. I watched Lever last week and apart from one good pack mark he was very ordinary. That's not a criticism, just an observation. May has played what? One and a half games this season after an interrupted preseason. KK has played very little in the last 2 years. Hannan hasn't played at all this year and missed preseason and JKH has missed half a season. Add to that Melk, Jetts and AVB are a long way away and whilst it will be good to have a number back and we will be better for it I think peoples expectations about what those players might be able to achieve is optimistic. If it takes them as long as it took our mids to find their mojo the season will be just about over. There's a pulse but IMO we are on life support. And that's not MFCSS, that's just logic.
  16. This post is not going to be well received and I'm putting it here because if this thread is representative I'm going nowhere near the post match discussion. Apologies if others have tried to fight the good fight. And I'm responding to this post as it seems representative of the views I'm reading on here today - I'm not having a go at Elegt alone. I was really proud of the boys last night. Gee did they have a red hot go! Playing the current Premiers on their own patch with 5 players with 22 games experience going into last night (Smith, Hore, Lockhart, Petty and Baker) and another group who give their all but are probably short of ALF standard (Stretch, ANB, Garlett and Wagner) we did not disgrace the jumper and I'll look any other club supporter in the eye today will pride. And with a bit of luck we'd have won. Petty on the line, Frost with a cruel fumble, Shuey with a freak goal, Ryan with a sensational mark and some weird umpiring decisions all went against us. Yes, our goal kicking was terrible and it wasn't just Petracca. Garlett, McDonald, Baker, Brayshaw, Stretch and others missed easy goals. But guess what, we created the chances and won everywhere but on the scoreboard. I like Joeboys three worder's but this one doesn't give credit where credit is due. Just look at OMac - "not our worst". No Joeboy, it should have been something like "played really well". And he's just an example of the poor evaluation of many of the player's performances by so many today. A bit sad really many don't have the balance to what a game performance that was.
  17. There were rumours that Joel had OP and Saty has now confirmed it. A quick scan of the internet and I found this: Osteitis Pubis is a common cause of chronic groin pain in the football codes. It is an overuse injury. That is, it is caused by repeated trauma rather than a specific incident. However, it is not uncommon for a specific incident to trigger the symptoms. Interesting that it says OP is caused by repeated trauma rather than a specific incident in light of the prima facie shocking decision to play him when injured. Can anyone with some knowledge comment? Thanks
  18. Really? We have 10 to 15 injuries and we've won our last two games, one against the Hawks who just knocked off the Giants. I reckon our depth is doing pretty well.
  19. Petty terrific down back taking 3 or 4 marks most contested. Cory Wagner very busy. Weid in a lot of play. Casey with the wind this quarter. It's not all that strong but a definite advantage.
  20. Playing the man again. And it's an opinion forum. And how on earth is your comment related to the Casey game tomorrow? Give it a break, you're better than that.
  21. I'd imagine this response along with a number of others will be deleted but do you really have to couch everything around how much you dislike Saty? You started it with your quip about Saty's relationship with the players when someone asked you to do training reports. The usual suspects including the much loved Moonie and Wise jumped on. Fair dinkum Dazzle. If everyone got suspended getting something wrong on this site not many would post. What is it about "some people like Saty and some don't" you don't understand? Why is it you want to shut down and bully Saty? I've been to training quite often lately and guess what. The players speak to him, the coaches speak to him and often go out of their way to say hello. He's good mates with Nev. Are you questioning his character because he likes Saty? For all your training reports have their merits Saty often provides information not available elsewhere. And if you think he isn't told things and keeps them quiet you're kidding yourself. Live and let live mate. You single handedly diverted this threat to Saty and I for one find that childish. Grow up.
  22. I went to the Casey game yesterday as I wanted to have a look at the new blokes. Conditions were perfect although it was quite humid and the smoke haze and smell were quite strong. It was a resounding win by Casey who completely outplayed Brisbane around the ball and of course were helped by Viney, Jones and Melksham who were just a class above. This is how I saw the Demons:- Kade Chandler:- Didn't know he was on the ground in the first quarter as I was mainly watching the big three but I certainly noticed him in the second and subsequent quarters. He's small but he looks strong and quick, not lightening, but quick and he has good hands and a good kick. He took a good contested mark at one point and kicked a couple of goals in the second. He covered the ground well and tackled. He used the ball well with several passes inside forward 50 to teammates and was the most impressive of the new blokes from my point of view. He looks like he could become a good player. Nathan Jones: Often when you see a senior player come back to a lower grade they seem a little at sea and don't dominate the way you'd expect. Jonesy didn't have that problem. From the first bounce he just kept getting the ball and managed to find space in tight and continually won the ball at stoppages. His skills were rusty as he missed several handballs and kicks I'd normally expect him to nail but it was a little like watching a year 12 boy play with the year 10's. He was just better than the rest. Seemed to run out the game well and I've no doubt he'll play round1. Jack Viney: Was pretty dominant around the stoppages and on occasions used his strength really well just bashing through tackles at stoppages and clearing the ball. Played quite some time in the forward 50 but doesn't look a natural forward at all. He got plenty of the ball and used it well. He looked pretty spent towards the end and appeared to hurt himself when he attempted a spoil from behind and may have jarred his knee/leg on landing. I watched carefully as he went to the bench where a trainer/physio (I was on the other side of the ground) talked to him for a minute or two. There didn't appear to be any testing of the leg or any ice used and he walked reasonably comfortably after the game. Like all, I'm just hoping for the best. James Jordan: Looked a class player and while he didn't get a heap of it when he did he used it well and looked confident in what he was doing. Played off half back and covered a lot of ground. He is a sure ball handler and a lovely kick and appeared to be in the right place at the right time. He's still quite slight but showed courage and a willingness to tackle. I liked what I saw. Corey Wagner: Showed some speed and footy smarts at times and if he was a first year player you'd be quite excited but he's not and if he's going to make it needs to find something more. He certainly has a go and won his fair share in the forward 50. Jake Melksham: Didn't really see him in the first quarter but started to play well in the second and was dominant in the last half. His contested ball work was great, he was strong in the air, he found space and his kicking was fantastic. He was close to BOG for me in the second half and will be a great addition with his kicking skills particularly. Sam Frost: Just a game. Always looks a class above until he fumbles the simple ones or makes a rookie mistake. He did get better as the game wore on but not one of his better games because of the mistakes. Also there wasn't a lot to do down back for Casey. Tom Sparrow: I was disappointed with his first half and can't say I really noticed him but sometimes when you're watching for the first time you don't notice players so maybe I'm being unfair. He started to get more involved in the third but I was disappointed with his disposal but as the game wore on he got better and better and displayed some really good clearance work and kicking skills. He's very much in the mould of an inside mid with a see ball get ball approach and was at the bottom of a lot of packs. I was much more confident at the end of the day than at half time with him as he definitely has some AFL attributes. Cory Maynard: Not a dominant game but maybe was pushed out of his normal role with Viney and Jones doing a lot of the centre clearance work. Just a game really and not one to get excited about. Toby Bedford: Now here is an interesting one. In one sense he's got it all. He's quick and nimble, he covers a lot of ground, he's a willing tackler and he works hard. Looks to be a sure ball handler and a good kick but reality about yesterday is he didn't get it enough to make a judgement really But every time he was around the ball or got it he caught your eye. I'm glad he's on the list but he's got to learn the best trick in footy - to get the ball. Braydon Preuss: Dominant ruck in the first half and gave silver service to the mids while he was on. As you know, he injured himself in the first minute of the third quarter and wasn't seen again. Austin Bradtke: Got Casey's first goal (I think) with a really good contested pack mark in the first few minutes of the game and followed up later in the quarter with another. He's got good hands and can kick it quite well and found a bit of it around the ground but I don't think he added to his two first quarter goals. He did quite a bit of rucking when Preuss went off and was monstered. Lots of time in the gym and a clear project player but looks a good long term prospect and although it's too early to call looks more a forward than a ruck. Jost Wagner: Not a lot to do but what he did he did well. Very brave on occasions particularly in the air and was spoiling the ball very well to the boundary on many occasions. He's a good VFL player and performs regularly at this level from what I've seen but didn't do enough to push a case for senior selection. Harry Petty: I've liked this kid from the first time I've seen him and again he looked very good yesterday. He reads the play really well, he's a very strong overhead mark and his kicking is very good. He got to the right place regularly and played a very good game. Towards the end of the game he had a couple of spells in the ruck which looked quite promising as he was okay with his tap work and agile and mobile enough around the ground to have an impact. Given our relative glut of KPD I wouldn't be surprised to see him trialled forward at some point. With his contested marking strength and kicking ability he could be a handful. I'm very confident this kid will be an excellent AFL footballer. Oscar Baker: Clearly needed a run. Looked rusty and didn't get into the game as you'd have hoped but he's had a long spell on the sidelines. He loves to get involved and he loves to take people on, not always with the desired outcome. But he has a go, he's got very good pace and he clearly believes in himself. Having said that, it wasn't a good game by his standards from my point of view.
  23. Chandler in everything. 1 goal and a poster. Preuss limped off
