  1. Maybe it's just me but I think Petracca's 2018 season was very underrated by DL posters. I'd rate his season as good as he averaged 20 possessions a game playing predominately half forward. He had over 40 shots at goal but was inaccurate compared to his previous year but all his major stats were up. He came with a lot of expectation and I understand some are disappointed he isn't yet a superstar but it's only his fourth season in the AFL with his first ruined by injury. What I find more disappointing is people questioning his attitude when the reality is I doubt many know and are just guessing. Questioning someone's attitude by guessing is poor form. As for Lyon's view - I couldn't care less.
  2. I don't know anything about any of the potential draftees this year but I know that as evidenced by the trading of Watts and Hogan we want players who are committed to being the best they can be and are utterly competitive. I'd be interested to know from those underage watches who fits these categories around our picks.
  3. I agree Nash, and it's why Tom Campbell is a possibility as he can play permanent forward I think.
  4. Yes, it's an assumption and who knows who's right or wrong. Hogan will be just 24 when the season starts next year. He is a proven commodity tracking closely to the top tier of his position at a similar age, he has done the vast majority of his development and he is entering his best years. Reiwoldt played until he was 35 and Jesse has similar physical attributes. He may well have 8 to 10 years in him. And he plays a position that is the most difficult to have confidence around when drafting 18 year old. I think he is worth no one but it's just a view. Perhaps not, only (say) 5 years or so left is a short time span. But he went for pick 5 which is close to the top of the tree. I've been a blue sky junkie most of my life. For a long time I've rated picks over players; the hope of picking up that generational player. But we've had so many misses and few successes. And we are by no means the only ones to miss the rebuild. I've seen DL kick and scream when we've picked up Melksham and Hibberd and I'm not sure if Vince was welcomed when selected. I watched Roos pick players like Richards, Mumford and Jolly for "way overs" only to be proven to be correct. I think human nature is to want to open the parcel to see what's inside but my experience is it's usually a disappointment when measured against expectation and hence my view that draft picks are very overrated. Good list management (trading) involves valuing picks for players. If you overvalue picks you pass up on good players and good deals. Understanding value is critical. I might be right and I might be wrong. What I do know is Mahoney will know more than me and I'd love to hear the topic debated by knowledgeable people. Mahoney's interview on DL won't lead to that debate but it's an opportunity to ask someone with the knowledge his view.
  5. I'd like you to ask Josh about the philosophy of trading on premise that "picks are grossly overrated". If Hogan was in the draft this year he would have gone number one. If May was in the draft this year he would have been number one. Neither went for anything like that. Why? Do clubs completely overvalue "blue sky" in recruits and do they give enough weight to a possible "bust" factor and do they give enough weight to the "certainty" factor of a known trade? In general I'd like to hear him talk around this subject with reference to where in a cycle are club is and how that effects their thinking.
  6. Can an upgraded rookie be placed on a one year contract?
  7. They'd be traded, not thrown on the scrap heap for others to pick over.
  8. Both parties got what they wanted. What’s the problem.
  9. We will probably decide on the night. As I understand it rookies are paid less and only get a one year contract. IF this is right we'll use 40 primary list spots if JT thinks the talent warrants it but won't if he doesn't.
  10. I agree with all that but you'd be very disappointed if you were a Cat's supporter.
  11. If he has another good year that won't help much if he insists on going to WCE because try as they might they won't have the picks to offer. It's hard to see how they can offer much more next year than they did this year.
  12. He'll aways be an import and so the connection isn't as strong as say someone like Spargo. I'll obviously support him but it's just different somehow. Probably only me.
  13. I never feel the same about players traded in as those drafted. Bernie aside.
  14. Well I'm not so you can't say that about everyone. I think there are a lot just disappointed to see him go. Anyway enough.
  15. People are disappointed to see Hogan go. Is there an issue with that? You're dancing on their disappointment like a big bully.
  16. Clickbait Wise, clickbait.
  17. You've got some good footy views STMJ but you really are an awful person.
  18. It really annoys me that people have a go at the disappointed posters. Hogan is a generational player, he held our aspirational hopes for a long time and we became attached to him. I can't believe there is anyone not sad to see him go. Those knocking the disappointed are just jerks.
  19. I just have this horrible sense of loss.
  20. GCS will just wait and see if 5 comes to them. They are in no hurry. How silly would they look if they traded for 7 but 5 was available.
  21. I think what a lot are overlooking is the actual role of the GM Footy Ops. He is responsible for all footy. List management, coaching, tech people, medical staff admin staff, property staff, the footy side of the Casey alignment and so on. Like Peter Jackson, he relies on the skills those he employs to produce the results. One of his major skills seems to be identifying the right people who can do the job. I think he's done a fantastic job. He's united a divided FD, he has overseen the culture we now have, our relationship with the players, their families and other clubs seems excellent. I don't know how much input he's had directly into the Oliver situation but he's responsible for employing those that did. He hasn't put a foot wrong. Well done Josh.
  22. I'm a bit confused about all the wrist slashing. Option One: We trade Hogan to our advantage (as determined by the FD) Option Two: We keep Jesse who is an elite talent. What's the problem?
  23. I think this is the most likely outcome but strangely, known troll GNF has said exactly what I've heard about Jesse. It is the FD preference to keep him. My source is well connected but I don't know where his information came from so I take it all with a grain of salt. What I admire about you is your ability to have certainty around a situation that is anything but certain and your ability to sprout it probably close to 50 times in this thread alone. One of the critical unknowns about this deal is the relationship between MFC and Hogan. If it is as I've heard and GNF suggests then MFC are in a very good position and can't really lose. If not Jesse's situation is anything but clear. Oh, and Graz, I agree with you. Jesse to GCS on a mega-deal, AFL ambassadorship, Jesse out of the limelight which he might enjoy and he becomes a leader of a club that now has full AFL backing and a good administration. GCS won't be much good next year but we have seen ourselves how a basket case can be turned around and GCS are better placed than we were to achieve that. Interesting days ahead.
  24. Nah, just clickbait Wise ?
