Bit late with this but in any case: 6 - Gysberts - how often did this 2nd gamer 'get busy' while others sat back - Davey?????? Will he ever work out how to get on with going at the ball when tagged - will also add that some others need to get over and help him in this situation. 5 - Jamar - good to see above the comment 'gave Kruezer a lesson' MK will be a fine player but IMO is a bit like Nik Nat when the media talk about him and every little thing he does is viewed as 'class' - IMO this game should hold Russian in good stead for an All-Aus spot. 4 - Bruce - I have been a bit critical of Bruce, my mind is not made up but was his best game of the year 3 - Morton - better and better each week and even as this game went on - is a huge kid and so much upside to him. 2 - Grimes - another solid performance from Frank - love him 1 - Junior - led the way again - would've probably been higher had we won which is a bad argument on my own opinion really! Anyone that put Davey in...come on!
-
IMO - I will go with the majority which is an unproven Strauss but this a bit desperate that we have no one else that people will look at. Obvious to tell but I love Jack Grimes and IMO it is the team as a whole that create situations where the zones we face become difficult to broach, even in open play some players seem to go to Jack when they shouldn't and the turn over comes - but this is probably my bias!! I think we too often look to hit a target that isnt there - how about playing to some of our current strengths? Play on from full back and clear the zone even if kicking towards the boundary outside of the zone - if we can at least create a contest and get a throw in we can back ourselves to win it from the throw in as our clearances have been good from stoppages. The preference is to hit targets and move the ball - if that is not an option why play ourselves into trouble and turn it over for a certain goal - get it out of the zone and start again!

This Week's Rising Star = Jordan Gysberts
Red Sox replied to Allen Jakovich's topic in Melbourne Demons
Great work Gys.......not a big deal and probably a moot argument but IMO has hit the ground running even quicker than Skull and JT....maybe the extra games at Casey gave him that hunger....geez the Gys looks good -
The Losties and the Others!

Long left that site alone.....gets far too personal and that GG rant and rave was....well I only read it because of this post so will leave it there. It's sad at times....you see more personal 'attacks' than a Saturday arvo at the G. I enjoy the difference of opinions and arguing of one's point. The one thing I don't enjoy at any site are mods who think there opinion is the final word and give short shrift to others, seemingly because of who they are...disappointing IMO but nothing personal!! We all love the Dees!

Fears safely tucked away...bring on the blues. Cheers again Sars
-
Great work SARS....love these updates!! It was mentioned yesterday that Scully may not be in the side this week - to put any fears to bed did he train fully? Fingers crossed for Chip that all is well.....he has half a hand on an All-Australian jumper IMO.
-
Shhh...I am being discreet and having a look . Its looks awesome!!! Got the good feeling all week about this game....we will wiN!
-
It is indeed big Jack....hopefully can play through the year now!!

I couldn't disagree with this post anymore......the future IMO is still very very bright for this defence. Damn we are still in the top 4-5 rated defences in the league for points against and where we have come from and still trying to head, this is one feather in the cap. Of course there will still be some chopping and changing and so there should be. This week as has been the case for a few weeks now, the FD are picking sides to suit who we are playing against. Frawely - don't have to say much about Chip - most improved player in the comp! All Australian jumper coming?? Garland - will return to his best after a long spell.....there is never much room between him and his defender, once that yard of pace returns he will be hard to beat. Warnock - yeah he wasn't great last week, no defender no matter how good looks good when supply from the opposition mids is continual.....against Geel this was the case. I'll say he still was outpointed often which is not great but how quick we forget the other games where he has been a rock...no match up this week, he misses Rivers - some of the continual bashing of Riv here astounds me, it really does. I do concede that he is struggling one on one and concedes the front spot too often...as a floating reader of the play he is as good as any player in the comp. Martin - IMO he had his best few games for us when he played up back, he has looked lost and soft at the contest in other areas but this young guy is still a solid work in progress, injury has had him take two steps forward and one back for the most part this year, otherwise IMO we wouldve seen more of him being used as the back up to Russian as well as being able to swing between forward and defence. He needs to crash into packs more and be a bit harder but IMO there is plenty of upside to Stef. Cheney - hasn't kicked on would be correct but he is doing everything asked at Casey and should get a shot soon - jury still out no doubt. Bartram has held the spot well so far but I still see Kyle getting this spot at some point - lets see what he does in an improving side... Strauss - You haven't mentioned this silky star in the making - IMO! This guy will become a regular senior player in the next 12 mths or so - could be our man to finally use the ball properly when kicking out from full back - kicks long, penetrates and hits a target - has a good size and besides a couple of howlers in his first two games does have good awareness. IMO - If the pies reckon they have a good half back line pair with Shaw and O'Brien - they wont come close to Grimes and Strauss!!! Morton - huge guy for a mobile bloke - needs more strength no doubt but seems to have put on more weight from last year, needs to put on more but will become a good swingman similar to Cam Bruce - possibly better than Cam IMO Grimes - the cream....just a star is Jack - love watching this kid that I'll say it again....I love watching this kid!!!! McNamara - yep, got a way to go and has many above in front of him. IMO - this defense has been building a fantastic core group of player, again we are only at the start of our re-building phase but two points are the defense has a fantastic points against result very early into this phase, the midfield is near the top for clearances - these indicators can and will only get better. Once the midfield really starts to control the play the defense will see less of quick ball coming down and we can only improve again. It's all my humble opinion and having the day off work today - love having the time to put my thoughts across. We are in good shape! Patience is the key.
-
Bails is usually on the money so I will be watching closely to see if skull runs out.....no one is ever correct 100% of the time so Bails...here's hoping this is one of your off days!
-
We've got enough height options IF their forward sets up with the above 4 at one time...Bruce, Morton, Riv, Chip. Houlihan wont play up front, Kreuzer will spend time there...ruckman can always look a worry to cover but it's not often that they are parked up front and kick bags...just doesn't happen. Waite at his best could be a worry but I see Chip taking him on and beating him of course with Riv floating. Last chance saloon for Riv IMO...not forever but at least for now. I'll say it forever, he is brilliant as a spare floating backman....not so one on one. Cmon Riv!
-
Rhino...I find myself agreeing once again. I've a feeling that Warnock may have gone out to keep Rivers because I will always stick by the call that Riv is an excellent defender as a loose man....one on one has been proven to struggle. Knowing that Carlton like to run the ball into the forward line and go to the space, Riv could have a good day reading the play all afternoon.....Warnock not suited to this. Having said that Grimes can do this also but with Riv floating Grimes can be more damaging......no Brock..DamN!
-
Bails joined Oct 07....is this you Dean
-
Not killing anyone here LS....just pontificating on whether or not it could indeed be 'Bails'! But stuff the cotton wool.....get him out there and win this week then worry about next week
-
That's what I am worried about, Bails has got it SPOT ON the last few weeks. Is this Dean or what? A quick post at 3pm and gone again? Going to be disappointed not having skull back out there....but on Bails word...I am prepared for the worst.
-
Wow Rhino.....I have to agree with everything you say here. I'd much rather stick with what we have......it's only my feeling but I don't think Rick P will go and even if he does the forwards put up here by Rhino are more than capable of being everything and more than what a Mitch Morton could be. Stef Martin, even Dan Hughes.....should be given more opportunity should Rick P go home
-
The two 'contested' marks JW took against the weagles was more than Newton would/will/can ever offer.......you compare a kid of half a dozen games against....nup that's enough...this is silliest comment of the week IMO!
-
Rhino....for a guy that likes to argue the point with everyone on everything (if people want to hypothesise over Gysberts playing on McLean....let em have some fun about that possibility, doesn't have to turn into a "i think like a coach and am correct" argument that you like to throw around...."shoddy self serving one up manship supporters".....please give it a rest mate and let some other comments through to the keeper..... )you are way off the mark here....Brock 'just' gets found out in dashes? Give me a break....he is seriously limited not only in pace, but foot skills because not only can he not break lines but he cannot penetrate with his kicking. Large tank? Debatable, as he does not run games out at all and those 7 to 10 strides become 10-15 pretty quickly. Today's football has passed Brock McLean by......this was evident at Melbourne, is evident to the majority of Carlton supporters. Good luck to him if he couldn't see the wood from the trees at Melbourne. This weekend I might just give him a razz or two......many supporters will and whats wrong with those one eyed demon supporters venting their frustration at a bloke who walked out.....not everyone is aware or is impacted by donations etc etc, they care about what happens on the field, that Brock chose to up and go to another field to play will see some vitriol come his way and so it should. He is no longer playing in the jumper I love and thumbed his nose at this club to achieve success. I don't appreciate that. I will appreciate watching Gysberts as much as anyone and am certain we will come out winners. I will enjoy giving Brock a razz or two, I will enjoy it more if we can get a win against his 'now beloved team'.

Reckon that both Tapscott and Blease could make a quick impact given a chance. Blease may be less so as the way it is looking if he misses too many more this year he has spent the best part of 2 years on the sidelines. Hopefully he comes right because there always seems to be some attrition of draft picks where they have continual injury problems and dont quite get there. Hopefully Sammy is not one of those! Gawn being a big guy...yeah could be 2012 even 2013! Seems light years away but will come quick and Max might take this time anyway.
-
One thing that makes me feel a little better......pies and hawks right down this list also. Hawks won a flag two years ago.......give me one of those and these stats can take a jump!
-
Isn't Leigh Matthews down in Victoria during the weekends????? Surely this a bit over the top by Lethal to try and prove his point and destroy JW's career! First goal posts, then bruns jaw, now Jacks ride!!
-
Crap!!! Pity we cant use 87-94 stats here as this would see us a lot higher. I always used to use the line 'at least we aren't Richmond or the Shockers'!! This is a shock to the system in some ways.....but really since 94 we became a side that at our best could trouble the best (94, 98, 2000) but would badly badly drop away in the bad years and struggle to beat the worst....mostly not even being in the race. What happened with this sides (94 - 2000) and why did they drop away so badly? Even 2002 & 2006 and everything between those years......I used to always go along to games against the better sides knowing that we were a chance but the average sides used to see knots in the stomach. Was this the fault of the coaching staff, the players? We are at the start of a new era now and I really do hope that this legacy of getting ahead of ourselves is a thing of the past, the Nth and West Coast games this year give me those feelings again but can put that down to the fact that we are still developing. I really do hope that Cam Schwab and others are well aware of this stat as it very very damning against out great club!

Dustin Martin wins round 10 Rising Star Nomination
Red Sox replied to Carlos Danger's topic in Melbourne Demons
No doubt if there is two to three that could easily be nominated consistency over a few games is a deciding factor....... -
Dustin Martin wins round 10 Rising Star Nomination
Red Sox replied to Carlos Danger's topic in Melbourne Demons
No doubt that Martin deserved it this week......I would have LOVED to see Gys get in his debut but the powers that decide would have weighed up Gys, Rockliff and Martin and give it Martin on top of other performances.....this is fair enough as going by Gys debut he will get a nom soon enough. What makes me more happy of late is that finally some are seeing that Nic Nat is not even close to a certainty for Rising Star.....Hanneberry, Martin and those three that play at the dees? Scully, Trengove, Gysberts...that's them! Going to be a close run race....Gys starting a bit behind but if he plays like last week could well become a bolter! Would be nice to add Watts to that list too!
