  1. It is frustrating enough to sit through games than joining in on this debate but we ALWAYS, ALWAYS seem to get a raw deal on the holding/dropping/incorrect disposal of the ball. My memory is that we got ONE from when it was taken straight out of the ruck by Fraser so pretty hard not to give it to us....there was one just before Davey's that was so obvious and as soon as the majority roared for that Davey one, of course it gets paid to the pies. Talk about politicians, that umpire just went with the biggest noise and made the decision and it resulted in a goal of course. I thought Leigh Matthews on Sports Today last week made the best point about this rule and that players just jump into backs now so that they can pin the bloke who dives on the ball...isn't that STILL in the back? I understand and agree that a guy who is tackled as soon as he gets it should not get punished if he hasn't had the opportunity (even though Moloney was pinged for this...of course! But IMO to make it clearer, whether a player has opportunity or not and attempts to dispose of it (rather than it just being knocked out of the hands) whether by foot or hand, if he doesn't do this correctly it should be dropping the ball. Anyway....there's going to be error's, I would just like to see some more go our way or at very least break even..is that too much to ask McBurney???!
  2. Hard to argue with those stats for Bartram, MM.....his games against Davis and Brent Harvey are stand outs and I am probably missing some others.
  3. You are an inspiration Jim!! My mother has been battling two brain tumors since November...we are all great Melbourne supporters and a positive for my entire family has been the strength gained from Jim and watching how he continues to fight and live his life as well as the turning fortunes of our great club. It is almost part of the healing process for my mum going to the games this last year or so as it feels like she is part of something much bigger and it helps her to fight. So thanks Jim and keep fighting!!
  4. Yeah yet ANOTHER positive move by the club.....Matt has been there for a week or two to get this up and running. Expect the new emblem soon and the move to new quarters...postives just keep coming from this club.
  5. I stand by what I said last week in reference to kicking in and believe this was done to great effect as the game went on.
  6. That is just proof of our depth in that area IMO undeeniable. MacDonald only plays to cover one of Chip, Garland or Rivers. Can't see him playing otherwise...doesn't mean he is not up to it, just not as good as the first choices. Rivers is most susceptible of that three IMO but is still valuable, just wish he was better one on one but I will keep pushing him up as a great free man! Cheney is a ripper and I would've thought would have replaced Bartram by now or at least had a look in but how can Bartram be dropped at the moment? He can't and I have knocked Barts plenty and still have my doubts, in any case this is the spot that Cheney is there to cover or make his own if he gets the chance. Strauss is the other but I think he can get a spot in multiple spots, midfield or back...but with Junior Mac coming back he is going to have to wait for now.
  7. I was waiting for the person who threw this one up today. Sorry to yell but NO NO NO!!! We are the 4th to 5th best defensive unit in the league even though we still sit in 13th.....this is an awesome stat and is the most significant reason we have improved. It was always going to be as the kids will still take time. Garland is a super super defender, people that called for him to have a spell...crazy. You don't run blokes like this around at Casey, he just needed senior game time after 12 mths out. No reason why he cant kick a few goals as he did yesterday by running off his man in defence anyway. Garland + Frawley = Best two up and coming defenders in the game, in my very biased opinion! Be patient and wait for Jurrah and Petterd to return, take a bit of pressure of Watts and Bate and the forward line will flourish. Last piece of the puzzle but the pieces are already there.
  8. I prefer the 6 to 1...but ok: 3 - Jamar - Superb by the big Russian, is getting better as the season goes on and his efforts in last qtrs against Port and now the pies have been inspiring, he gets the nod from me for the interview on ten after the game, he was gutted and blamed himself for Jolly getting the mark that went on to Lockyer. He was gutted and showed how much these boys want it. 2.5 - Davey - hard to split Flash & Beamer.. both super in the last as we pushed for the 4 points. Flash gets my 5 simply for his courage in taking players on and finishing it off with his execution by foot 2.0 - Moloney - I, like so many always seem to want to skip a generation and look for the next captains from the young brigade, Beamer - you have just been throwing up the hand so high this last 12-18 mths - a captains effort yesterday! 1.5 - Garland - Super, super game from Col. It astounds me that people wanted him to have a spell, this guy just needed some game time after 12 mths out of it and he and Chip will be the premier defenders in the comp. Stop the forward line calls, Col is a great defender. 1.0 - Morton - he is THE new AFL players isnt he? Can make some bad decisions at times but this drop away, I wish he would use his height and size a little more in marking contests but this can come in time too. A great game by Cal and another stepping stone 0.5 - Dunn - hard to split Bartram or Dunn, both player defensive roles even though Dunn up forward, I give it to Dunn as he kept Shaw quiet and Davis has been in pretty average form anyway, not much of a point but enough for me! Apologies to Chip and the entire backline.....gee these guys are good. Jones, Scully, Jetta. Green would've got votes had he finished off his work and won us the game.
  9. It hurts even more so in that I have a slab with a Collingwood supporter at start of the year that we would get to 8 wins this year....I fear that I will be looking back on these Collingwood games as I hand over that slab!
  10. I think most demon fans would agree that Green is not a lay down set shot, he is good, fairly good and would be around 60-65% which is probably the going rate in AFL footy...always has been, always will be. Jack Watts is one IMO that I will start to put down the glasses, hopefully he starts to get more of it as he is a SUPER set shot. Best technique I've seen at the Dees since G Lyon
  11. Rhino....I get the point and yes would agree that Green couldhave sealed the game for us. I thought that poster was home!! I stand to be corrected but from what I can recall the majority of set shots from on or about 50 that were put on any sort of angle struggled to make the decent, I can recall many players looking to dish off from this distance yesterday. No breeze and some sun doesn't always make for weather where the ball will travel through the air as expected, it was still cold and that can be enough to put a little extra weight on the ball, I think you will find Malthouse even referenced this exact point. OK I might stop now that I have used Malthouse to make my points!
  12. Rhino.....You need to make comment against nearly every player (except Cale Morton) when referencing Green falling short from 50..it happened the entire day due in part to the weather, the ball didn't carry. If it did it was pushed left or right with the player trying to get the distance knowing that 50m + was going to be difficult. A couple of his misses were mighty close..BUT on the whole I don't think Brad is THE be all and end all as far as reliability goes, the media like to pump him up as the best set shot in the game, this is a little far fetched IMO - doesn't make him a terrible shot either and I wouldn't have thought this was a big issue really. I would still have in his hands (along with Watts) if the game was on the line....see Port Adelaide. As long as it isn't in Cam Bruce's hands....now there is a player who cant kick for goal!!!
  13. Mate mate....couldn't disagree more, sure he does have a little issue with his decision making at times but IMO i see this improving as he goes....he was great today and our best last week. My main issue with Cale is that he doesn't JUMP for a contested mark...(SEE Pendlebury out mark him while Cale sat at the back of the pack) when he is such a big bloke, hopefully a bit more size will sort this. The amount of Posts here that listed Garland as needing a rest???????? Could not understand it at all...a guy this good does not need to find touch in the twos. Wow, he has just improved week after week after 12mths out of the game and was AWESOME yesterday......he and Chip are brilliant and that goal (I was calling for the big Russian just to kick it himself) showed that he could be swung forward as the coaching department has hinted, but he is too good where he is as part of what will soon be the best defense in the game....to be 4th or 5th best now as we sit in 13th spot is a phenomenal result and proof of just how good that back 6 are.....I have to dip my lid to Clint Bartram who I have knocked and still believe there are better options (Strauss and Cheney) but those two will have to wait because Clint just keeps doing what he is asked to do....just hit the chest with those kicks Clint...GO DEMONS!
  14. Could be the very reason he misses...hopefully not. Go Dees!
  15. Didn't Jako and Andy Lovell both kick 8 against tiges????
  16. Was it 11.8 that day by Jako?! What a star.....
  17. Bennell didn't play for Casey while all others were there....BTW Strauss was excellent and hopeful to see him soon. Expect Bennell to play.....for probably Jones, possibly even Gysberts I've heard a few things after he only played 5 mins of last qtr against Blues. Heard Chip around the place too but am sure he will be there.
  18. Great updates and always appreciated....wanted to go but sadly dragged into work but thanks to you can stay in touch. Good work!
  19. Brent Moloney as we know a Demon all his life, picks his best Dees 22..... http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/96136/default.aspx
  20. Right now I would suggest that the team named to that we will see run out could be quite different....adding Frawley to a the list of being doubtful - Jones and Sylvia....even Gysberts was off the majority of the last qtr last week but should be ok. Will be an interesting day at Casey tomorrow to see who is not there....see you all there!
  21. And another late fine??? Hopefully this came from the Ox's mouth - he has a bit of decent habit for being wrong. I can't understand how he could be so close last week and only pulled at the last minute (his family was down from Bungaree and they may have tried to get him across the line) and at this early stage be a certain non starter. Doesn't make sense to me unless he is worse than reported.
  22. From where????? How can he be named and then confirmed as out still 3 days out from the game?? I just added him to my Supercoach team
  23. Rhino...you talk crap and can't even manage to advise when you pull a post. I stand by what I suggested and the fact that you couldn't even bother to let me know just confirms this. A sad life you must have lead before the days of emotive icons!
  24. Hopefully in 20 years time they are all returning to the club to celebrate that historic Melbourne three-peat of premierships....2012, 2013, 2014!!! I'm expecting some attrition and changes to the flag winning sides of 2016, 2018 and 2019. Not that I'm greedy!
  25. For mine....Rhys Stanley I would certainly be open to. I've heard plenty about Dangerfield wanting to come home, remember he is a Geelong boy and as much as I could care less about Geelong I would hope that they could end up with Dangerfield should Ablett decide to go. For the sake of every club there should be adequate compensation from GC17...anyway, that topics for another thread I guess! Where St Kilda are currently placed (premiership clocks etc) we could possibly push for a 2nd rounder swap for him and a player perhaps....Rivers? One of the defenders? I have the opposite view of many here and actually like Riv but you have to give something to get it and IMO I really rate Stanley and I don't mind the look of this.....Rivers and 2nd Round Pick for Stanley and keeping the first round and getting another gem there would be a win I reckon! Pure speculation and food for thought. Hawthorn need a ruckman too - take PJ hawks, please, please!!
