Gee I love/loved Trav for the player he could be. Even for all his faults I loved the guy in red & blue. The 02 Season and finals were his best for us but unfortunately that season was a long time coming and it never really eventuated again. The swap as suggested above was a KOTD moment for us and I would say his replacement in # 16 has already shown much better application and consistency to his football. For all that, I will still remember him fondly but understanding how by letting himself down he also let the club down.

Wasn't he from the early 90's? Then Geelong took him on from there? I believe he came from Essendon together with Steven Clark? In any case, two names to include here. Clark 'nearly' had a torpedo sail through after the siren at Windy Hill in 91 to defeat his old side. Sadly it fell short. Pretty sure it was 91 as 1990 I remember Darren Bennett going nuts on Van Der Haar and winning us the game by 4 goals in a second half comeback - great day!

So Stephen Tingay didn't live up to expectations? What an abysmal effort in summing him up here and having him included amongst this list of players. Your underrating the Duke and his output with us, I suspect because he played in a fairly decent blues side. IMO he was just as good for us and contributed heavily in many important games, starting with the end of 87. There's probably not any more that I could add here that aren't already listed. The most disappointing aspect for me has been the injuries suffered to many players I thought could have been even better, if not for these injury concerns.

I like Jimmy Bennell. He has plenty of attributes to become a fully fledged midfielder, at worst a damaging flanker. He is a smart footballer but needs to stay involved in the game more often. Adding more physicality to his game would help that, attacking balls around stoppages. He has all the talent to do damage if he applies himself in that area.

I believe the MFC have already donated an assistant coach to those pr!cks. Can I say pr!cks here?

Who are you referring to? Warwick Capper? Steven Stretch? Robbo? Using high flyers as your example wouldn't stack up too well would it?

I remember this so well.....The Pre Game '88

Can we not direct this thread to that PF game the previous week? Much better pre-game to that GF and my fond memories of that day are still vivid. Just as soaking wet out at Waverley. A day made for the likes of Jamie Dursma etc. -
It's been good to read the China diaries being posted at MFC website. They like to stop and pause for Grand Old Flag renditions quite often. I thought this was the domain of drunken suburban post grand final celebrations and footy trips! Good to see the passion is being displayed around the world.
-
Wins were rare anywhere back in those days
-
I LOVE the G as much as anyone. But I really do miss those trips out to the suburban grounds more than anything. All the changes, rules etc I can work with and assimilate quickly as we all do. But there was nothing better than a nice good win (stop before Mike Brady sues) at a suburban ground. Your example here harry is a fantastic memory of what was a super day.

Nothing it is then.

Got you now. Had no idea what that meant.

Glad Hannabal has added a bit more to this than having us all search for previous thoughts on the matter. FWIW, I find his thoughts on Jurrah to be spot on. The suggestion of being harder without compromising his game is correct. From my point of view, I don't have to see him going blindly into packs. What I will be happy to see is him launching himself at contents, without fear, and attacking the ball at every opportunity. His freakish ability is obvious but this will not be enough on it's own. I'm not sure if he is subconsciously softer or it is more a confidence issue. If that all comes together, look out. I think it will as he starts to come more and more out of his shell, which he still has yet to do.
-
Reckon or at least hope that they were maybe just quickly mocked up for the trip?
-
These are great. Thanks for sharing.
-
Does that also apply to anything else you have commented on? If your thoughts on Jurrah have been mentioned before, why bother to rehash once again and open yourself up to a question? You know a question will come with a comment like that, surely? Are you already aware of this and post accordingly, knowing the response you have when the inevitable question does come? It was a fine point you made. I actually understand what you mean, it is that inconceivable that others wouldn't?

WYL, thankfully I don't have access to You Tube at work as I am a little scared this is vision from the 1988 Grand Final??? I was an 11 yr old boy in tears by half time of this game. Not seen a snippet since, nor do I want to. I'll trust you on the great version of Waltzing Matilda, if my memory is correct it was performed by Noel Watson. -

Probably got fed up with you asking him for it. -
Nice unbiased view there Rhino. I agree with what you say, the Ox of the headband early days and the Ox of the 94 finals series were different beasts. Unfortunately, so was the Ox after the knees. Carey was blue chip all the way through. I guess people over hype Ox because his high point, the lead up and including the 94 finals series was such a devastating display by him. If that was the level he was going to perform at consistently, he was comparable to Carey. As for the super-sub - Flower or Tingay.

Fixture rumors?! I love this place at times. After waiting all summer you want Round 1 at home, but I guess were are due if this fixture rumour is true. Like Dee tention says, plenty of time to plan for an interstate raid and get a win, what a great start to the year if we could manage that. We'll see.

It was the intangible that made Jako tangible. Nothing about normal boring behaviours such as speed or aceleration.

Not sure they have recruited or traded too well at all Gibson is a fair backman. Hale is a fair forward/ruck. Skipper been & gone. Cheney. These aren't players I rate too highly.

A wise call on Sanderson IMO. Being that there are some familiarities between our style and Geelong, he and MFC would have reason to feel he could fit in quite comfortably. Working together previously as you suggested below is another positive. What's the bet he ends up with GWS?
