Potentially, I agree. The reports on Spencer are glowing on the track also and if Campbell and his knees are all good, it allows Spence to continue to develop without being, potentially, thrown in when not ready. I'll say it again, our potential ruck stocks seem brighter than even 3 mths ago.
-
I was totally unaware of this Training squad draft. Am happy with Campbell, a worthy punt.
-
What is the TS draft E? Not familiar with this
-
Bruce? It would very nice indeed. Six picks, he has to be worth the punt this guy.
-
I'm sure the kids will love the horns and happy for the club to do so. But I will not be wearing horns. Flashing or otherwise
-
It looks far less insipid with the blue shorts.
-
Seems a great improvement with drafting. I'm in if room allows.

That # 7 list you provided is not too flattering. No 1 would read the same I'd suggest? Certainly, going by this thread alone, numbers don't seem to carry a lot of significance. I have some romanticism with the numbers but could care less in comparison to the same regard to see a flag. At least we don't retire every second number as they do in many US sports.
-
Happy with 7 to Jimmy Bennell. There is so much potential and attributes that could see him become a very damaging midfielder. He goes missing too often but ideally this will change in 2011 and a break out year awaits...in the # 7. The Joel Hocking 'slip' sounded like it was meant to be said.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BILLY STRETCH

Nah, was responding above you at the same time HT. Your memories of SS I share also, but he is one that made us wince at times. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BILLY STRETCH

Probably didn't need to be said. But I can't say it is exactly BS if I was watching the same SS. -
Hopefully there are plenty more they come after too. Simply indicates to me what we all know, that we have a star on our hands. Can't be concerned about those things. He is a driven kid in any case and seems to be one that has the drive to achieve success in a football sense rather than anything else.

Nice update from CS. The navy shorts as an addition certainly will look much better.

I like our picks. With Gysberts playing minimal football, Strauss, Blease, Tapscott as well as Viney in the future the club can't have gone in any other direction. On potential it is a really good mix, even accounting for the current stocks. Cook being named as AA CHF in front of other players rated higher, may just be a great decision. Obviously some time will tell. A couple I hope to see quite early on and if the potential is realised we will be much the better.

Thanks for the words everyone. It was nice to have a chat to Anthony at what was a beautiful tribute to Mum. Obviously only caught a bit of our draftees, Mum would be happy our 1st draft pick shares the name as one of her grandsons.

Sorry to indulge myself by writing this but my dear mum passed away on Saturday after a brave 12 mth fight with cancer. Mum is a 27 year member of this great club, as I am and a seat will be there for her from 2011. My best friend is a client of Anthony Ingerson, many ardent supporters will be aware that Ingo runs his own construction company. I'd mentioned in the last day or two, to my friend, that Ingo was mum's favourite Demon. Ingo on hearing this volunteered his attendance to her funeral on Friday. I'm not sure if that makes me indulge myself, my mum or Ingo, but I wanted to mention it anyway. I love this club, I love my mum and I love the selfless act from Anthony. My mum would be chuffed that he is turning up. Thanks for allowing me to post this and thanks to Anthony. Thanks to the mighty Dees, who I might not be following without Mum. Thanks Mum.

Sad news Aussie and my thoughts are with you. I lost my mother on Saturday after a 12 mth battle with cancer and I can only add my sympathies understanding the pain.
-
And if it was in 2011 he might well have had another year in 2012. Not to be, farewell and a lot of love already lost knowing he'll be in that jumper. Any smokescreen could be perhaps pointed towards Bruce and his manager. I am sure he wasn't ever leaving us to go to Nth or Richmond. He created his own policy by not agreeing with ours. Good luck to him, not really. (not in brown & yellow)

Bennell. Watts. Aussie. Bennell could be anything if he attacks that footy, has superb skills. Aussie similar, has an opportunity to set himself up next to Jurrah and should thrive, needs to thrive. Watts, I have plenty of time for but expect a few impact games in 2011. I'd add Jurrah. A full season of his full potential? Unlimited what he could provide to the game. Strauss has plenty of area's he will need to show improvement in. Some prominent game time into Gysberts, Blease & Tapscott will be great to see. So many to name that are still at such a relatively early stage of their development. It's great!

Like this final cut. Great pic of Sylvia.

Love some of the players from that time. But even that great forward line of the 90's, who are you including in that? Ox?, didn't see his best after the knees. Pike?, came and went quickly. Jakovich?, don't get me started, love him but gone too soon. Sean Charles?, not enough to say that should have been said about his career. Farmer?, loved him then he left on his own terms, to his detriment I'll add. Lyon?, champ, but injury problems and could've been better. Bennett?, well he nearly achieved the ultimate in NFL. The forward line of the 90's had potential but did it ever reach it's ultimate potential? Even with the different set ups of players included above? 94 perhaps was the best, Jako, Bennett & Lyon in 91 etc but those teams failed to achieve in the ultimate sense and quickly dropped away. I've got great memories mostly of the late 80's/early 90's teams being 35 yrs old. Getting older it has become more frustrating to see 'potential' chances come and go and holding onto memories of beating Hawthorn twice (Rnd 22 and Elim Final) in 1990 etc. I could reel off plenty of great games and players I've enjoyed watching. I suspect none will be held as high in my opinion than the group that win a flag for ME! For MFC, for all supporters etc. I'm not sure if that will be the case, but how would I know? It's the only experience in football I've yet to have as an MFC supporter and it's about bloody time I/we got to experience it.

6 years now, hell I'll be 40! I suspect you'll be correct. I'm hoping his agility might allow him to prosper a little earlier than some of the taller types who rely on physical strength over anything else to become effective.
-
Yeah he is raw but hopefully we see him a bit sooner than 4 years. Any sort of physical change could occur within that time frame.
-
If we are having a shot at a flag from 2012 or 2013, how many will have played over 100 games by that stage? Mike Sheahan confirmed our development policy, he must believe that we are a premiership chance in 2011 then? I hope so, but unlikely. Good luck to Bruce, more game time into our young group that will hopefully bring home a flag. Much preferable than a record of 3rd place avg finishes over a decade. That simply ends up in frustration.

Better to rely on players that can play. We have enough options available in our forward line, Jurrah, Watts, Green, Petterd, Bate, Sylvia, Aussie, Bennell, Tapscott etc. If we are winning our fair share of ball through the middle and getting it into the forward half efficiently, there is enough talent up front to do plenty of damage. A Jamar going forward is another option, at times. Fitzpatrick looks a good type, might be a year or two away from AFL yet, but is that worth punting on a Neagle? I don't think so.
