The Lance 'Buddy' Franklin Non Thread
monoccular replied to John Demonic's topic in Melbourne Demons
Surely you aren’t suggesting that we “manage” Stephen May 😮🙄 -
What a dream if he and JVR both reach their full potential. I guess we will have to wait until at least mid 2024 to get a better idea.
-
I feel really sorry for Blake Howes - looked close to a debut last year, then injured, and again this year. What is his contract status?
-
Sort of agree, but if an AA ruckman needs to go to Casey for a few weeks to "learn forward craft" (which was the initial mantra, though later refuted by Goody) then surely Tommo would need to do a week or so at Casey if he were to be considered a potential forward. Though I see to recall someone much earlier saying that he played some forward time early in his career. Not sure we can afford to "rest" Viney at least until Clarrie returns. Grammar police. Disinterested mean being impartial. Uninterested is DGAF. Tommo up forward - see above. Could work though.

I choose to be an optimist who is sometimes wrong, rather than a pessimist who is always right. ❤️💙❤️💙

yep Looking forward to your non-laconic podcast. We love the nitty gritty. 😀

The poor guy just lives for footy - he must be even more frustrated than all of us combined. Get well soon Clarrie. Looking forward to you coming back fully refreshed and raring to go.

Thanks as ever for the insightful podcast - look forward to it every week. Are you concerned about our defence especially in the final quarter? There was some very poor decision making from May and Lever in particular and the Crows could very easily have snatched the game had it gone on a few more minutes. Contrast this with last week when, even though 4 goals down with 8 to play I felt reasonably confident we could claw it back, which we did. Is there something going on in the head space? Hard for me to explain the contrast. Maybe the Crows are better than the Bears. Thank goodness for Kossie and Chin for their goal kicking and liveliness on the forward line and midfield. Many other looked just flat. Anything related to training? the million dollar question is when will Clarrie get back? Any whispers? There was I believe some announcement that he would be back in two weeks. Anything further?

Mind you our last Harley didn't end up so well.
-
I think most of us would be happy to wait (though some no doubt will call him a dud and demand his delisting if he doesn't win the Coleman next year 🙄)
-
Didn't quite overrun us though They have just squeezed past 2nd, and lost to 3rd and 4th - so it is still a contest between top 4.

arrogant nasty piece of work

Kicking in danger seems to be being paid very selectively this year. I have only noticed it against us.

The fawning commentary team have absolutely no doubt. Back in the mid 60s as I remember one of the new channels, maybe have been 0 (later to become 10) had a very brief flirtation with (then) VFL - can't remember who the commentators were but one used to call for a behind "its a oncer only" !
-
Can't the bloody goal umpire's call be believed. Another waste of time - obvious touched into behind post.
-
Can someone please elaborate on Duursma - size, position, “plays like…”. Thanks IMO JVR isn’t being allowed to coast - he certainly is on a learning curve but does contribute well beyond what shows on basic stats sheets. As an aside, is Jefferson looking like something to look forward to in 2024? IF he and JVR both develop together could we have a gun tall forward pairing?

Don't fire me up again re this dog's dinner of a 'support competition' for the biggest competition in the country. Bring it back to Victoria, and make up / drop to an even number of teams. The other states have secondary competitions so why should part time players in Victoria (plumbers, sparkies, tradies etc) have to travel interstate, sometimes on weekdays, to prop up a comp so that the interstate teams can play VFL teams? Nothing fair about the "draw" aka schedule, even worse than AFL, and limited opportunities due to byes for emerging / returning players to gain form and show their wares.

JVR Frittata Petracca Pickett?

And Mooney Valley is very close to 🛬💣… maybe there will be discarded syringes lying around still.

BDA - sorry but you are being a bit naïve. AFL HQ have zero interest in fairness. Only in $$$$$

Some of my mates seem to find golf bad for their mental health: on the other hand I just say stuff the score and relax and enjoy it. Though I cannot envisage Stephen May (who is according to himself MFC’s lowest handicap player around 6 I think) doing anything short of taking it very seriously. binman - stay away from mainstream media. There is a podcast that I can highly recommend that is often true and accurate, with absolutely no 🐂💩- Demonland I think is the name. Some of the presenters actually seem quite intelligent 🤗🙄❤️💙❤️💙

My MFCSS nightmare envisaged Gillon coming out after the final siren and exhibiting Rule 199.7.3(c)(iii) that had only just been discovered stating that a team (other than Geelong, Collingwood, Essendon, Carlton, Richmond or any franchise club) who fakes a sub forfeits the game - and goes on to present the cup to Footscray. 😱🤮 Yes, it will be difficult for JJ when Ollie returns. Woewoden could be the unlucky one. Cannot see any of the other mids being left out. Re Hibberd - can anyone else envisage Bowey being moved forward. to take Spargo's place? Great defensive skills and pressure, and a good kick at goal. Could be an ideal 'defensive forward'.

The "wildcard round" could be a last ditch for 9 & 10, but it could disincentivise the battle for 8th. As it is if you finish 9th, bye bye season, as it should be. And 'resetting' after round 17 would, as we'll as being unfair for those who get to the top on their hard work R 1-17, making it 'easier' for 7-14 to get up further. Are the points gained to R 17 carrying forward, or is each sextet more or less reset? If, for example, 7th won all their R18 and beyond, and 6th playing harder teams won only a couple, would 7 leapfrog 6 or are the sextets quarantined? It would also be a nightmare for fans booking last minute travel and accommodation for interstate games - but I guess the big wigs will get there somehow, so what do HQ care? Inequitable as any schedule not having every team play each other twice remains, strictly held scheduling with the top teams from each year playing each other twice and the lower half once the following year would be as close to fair as possible. Sadly fairness is always a distant second to money at AFL HQ. Americanisation is here already - flashing lights, 'music' and other noise after goals has already hit us. Thankfully Geoff Eldesten's cheerleaders didn't last long.
