Has Nicholls ever paid us a free?
There must be stats available somewhere as to which umpires give how many frees to which clubs, and at which grounds. Presumably the AFL have these data but are too embarrassed to let them see the light of day.

I love Roos โค๏ธ and spot on here. Five weeks .... what, so, if the Eagles bravely battle through without their star mid, he can play in the GF? Utter BS. However many weeks he gets it must be enough for him not to play again this season. A certain ex AFL player benefited from our softly softly judiciaries views on domestic violence it has just been reported. Are you seriously suggesting that we should not have a defence force trained to do hard things when necessary in the defence of our country? Or maybe you mean not letting them back into our society once they have put their lives on the line because they have been trained to kill bad people? Just what do you mean?

It will be interesting to see how he spins this. Galbally! I wonder what he would be saying were the accused a Collingwood player? Well we wonโt get a chance to seeGus fronting up to Gaff in two weeks time, but he does get a chance to show WCE what he feels about them as a club. Are you really suggesting that this is not as bad as it looks because Brayshaw ducked into it? ? Fair dinkum ...... AFL canโt get anything tight especially regards rule changes. I havenโt seen any discussion about the almost certain concussion Young Brayshaw has suffered. Must be just awful for his family. NO SUBSTITUTE which is why it must be reserved for rare instances like this. Became an eminent pediatric surgeon I believe.

I don't think that Houli and Bugg necessarily did - both were reckless, dangerous, but wild backward swings that hit their opponents hard - but Gaff was face on so how can you defend that as unintentional? 6 for the act plus more for the result. Very different - see above. Bug swung backwards, recklessly; Gaff hit him face on. I only saw the clip of the actual contact - was a free paid? If not then the (blind) team of 9 maggots (apparently) didn't see it. Agree - this could break Gaff mentally. Certainly not worth more that 50% of his previous asking price, and intense psychological assessment before anyone put a dollar on the table for him. And, maybe Hamish should be allowed apply for special dispensation and get an immediate transfer to Melbourne (or even Freo) to get away from playing with his brother's assailant.

Are you preparing us for Christianโs assessment. In play, accidental, good record, repentant, Downlow contender ...... (forget high severe contact) ........$3k fine, or, if suspension unavoidable for outside pressure considerations, apply the unwritten โwho plays next ruleโ .... oh, Dees in 2 weeks .... one week.

IMVHO this was a lot worse than Bugg Bugg threw a reckless and overzealous arm blindly backwards at someone who was at him from behind: Gaff threw a very deliberate punch to a players face whilst face on, knowing full well what he was going to hit. IF, IF there was any justice, integrity and impartiality in the match review process Gaff would get 6-8, however he will get 2-3 to enable him to participate in finals. Prepare for weasel words and double back flip standards.

Proposed new rules for 2019
".....Under the trial, the team that has a player outside of their starting position will be penalised with a free kick. In the event that a player from each team is outside the required position then the player deemed to be furthest away will be penalised....." More things for the umpires to get wrong. And they say that trialing one rule at a time would be a waste of time !! Is the "expanded goal square" (which even now isn't square, and will be faster from that under the new rule, but that is me being pedantic) designed to encourage longer kick outs? Is there anything to stop the FB kicking from the side of the 'square'? IMVHO not awarding the defensive side a mark until after the ball has cleared defensive 50 would encourage long kick ins more.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - AUSTIN BRADTKE
IF he turned out like Mason Cox we would all be very excited. Wans't he plucked from US basketball?

It is very clear that either (or both) Michael Christian doesn't have a clue and /or is under instruction to look after the franchise(and "power") clubs.

Yes. You are missing the corruption and ineptitude of the MRP MRO position: could not not suspend him but absolutely zero doubt had a Demon done the deed it would have been "inexcusable, dangerous- 3-4 weeks", but a franchise precious, despite having a poor record, gets a soft penalty.

Richardson is right ...... this is just one more Gillon lead AFL balls up.

The 2019 fixture
Agree with the highlighted bits in particular, but that would be reasonably fair and equitable, so it WILL NOT happen.

Darwin game dumped
I must say that every time I have spent a week, or two, in Alice in winter I have come back to cold Melbourne invigorated. Absolutely NO sapping of energy. (Can't speak for Darwin as I have only spent a few days there in Spring).

The 2019 fixture
Firstly I hate the word 'conference' - first used in the contact of AFL by the US sports addict, Vlad. But I could see fairness in having two 'divisions' or 'sections' or 'groups' based on the previous year's final ladder: 1,3,5,7,9,etc in one group and 2,4,6,8,etc in the other. Play everyone in your group twice and in the other group once. It would (according to my rudimentary maths) 27 rounds. But of course fairness is an anathema to AFL HQ. Keep the rich rich, and the poor dependent. And regarding prime time allocations, given Gil's penchant for. high scoring, how about allocating them on the basis of the highest scoring teams of the completed H&A season? Plenty for us and none for Carlton, GC$, Saints and Ross Lyon's boring mob.

The 2019 fixture
"......again look to reward on-field performance when completing the 2019 schedule....." Again - like Carlton and StKilda getting prime time games gifted to them this year? Pull the other leg.

Darwin game dumped
2018 - big win, running away in the second half Didn't see that coming (to quote Mark Neeld) ... we actually destroyed them and they played under cover at Doglands to previous week. And interestingly, Freo won after Darwin too (or perhaps one could say their opponents lost).

Jason Taylor Resume
Always interesting to read the truly negative posts to balance some common sense.' No way could one, as of now, call Weideman a debacle. And if I recall correctly at the time Weideman was drafted Tom McDonald hadn't played as a KPP forward at all, or very little. His emergence as a top class marking and goal kicking forward has surprised many here.

Could have, would have, should have. Yes, recruiting isnโt a science and certainly not a precise one. But geez he has found some beauties

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - DECLAN KEILTY
Surely possession per se are not how one should judge a KP defender I vaguely recall a game at the G where I think it was Danny Frawley who held some whizz band FF goalless and got BOG with, as I recall, a single possession.
