Likewise SWYL. Cats at GMHBA this week will be their first test. They look good but the GF will be at the G in September.
-
Exactly . Leading forwrads are stopped by team defence generally. They always have the advantage of a split second decison over their defender. Nevertheless May wasn't happy with his performance by the look of him after the game. True professional.
-
Would have been worth a try , But May did some great saving work and direction last night and his defensive instincts are elite compared to most, incl TMac He gave away 100mm in height against Wright who is turining out well for the Bombers. (193cm vs 203 cm)
-
Your'e right , but last night was a credit to the system defence with a still-second string defence with May and Bowey doing their best to hold it together , incl great play by Gus. Good job coaching team. 70 points against. Last year the rule was if the Dees kick more than 65 points they win. This year its up just a tad. The cavalry can't come soon enough though.

Very creative and chases hard. Stays in for sure

A good summary of Cody here SEN last night commented (I can't remember who) that Weightman is a KPP in a small man's body, and thus flying for marks ect but not being on the ground where he is needed. In Kossie we got a true ground ball player with excitiemnt and pressure to boot.. Good teams need them - betts, Cameron, Stevie J , Cyril, and now Kossie. Wweightman has some way to go to be of sustainable value. Lst night he saved the Dogs but its something they can't rely on.

Essential reading for today. Wayne carey's article in this mornings Age on Luke Jackson. Says it all . "...Greatness is more attainable with greatness around you..." and that Gawn, Trac , Oliver etc help make Luke great. He'll stay (IMO) for the reasons Carey covers. Big money will then await him as a 2-3 time flag hero. - and good luck to him then anyway.
-
True Mandee. But his status , and then perhaps resulting earning capacity, will be immeasurebly more as a triple premiership player than someone who won one at 19 and did nothing team success-wise after that. Just looking at the long term marketing messages and strategy here. for example, Luke Hodge, seen as an elder statesman now speaking with authority on the back of great leadership CV and 3 flags.
-
Exactly. Good luck to his manager selling the idea of now joining Freo (why?) and Eagles (basket case on the slide). But professionally he'll make the eagles move in 5 years , with 3 flags under his belt, and all Dees supporter's best wishes, mine included.
-
As his grandfather siad to him once "...if your good enough, you're big enough..." He's a giant compared to many other alleged small forwards in the comp.
-
But the Dees aren't the story either. The stories of interest are cripps pies daicos bros. Max king bombets etc. Maybe now jackson and bowey. To a man the commentariat last weekend uses words about the dees such as flag favourites Competition benchmark And whately said dees are best team . Then daylight second. Over exposure can only end in tears early on.

Culturally I would rather the club not offer the godfather approach. If he goes to 5 years of underperforming eagles and dockers then good luck. I want trac looked after. And clarry and ed and gus and jack and Jakes. ..... The whole team that delivered on gf day. Adopting the cats approach of a bit less coin for sustained success. I think jackson will too. Sign at least a 2 year extension. And that's fair all round.

Probably as per above. Jake Boweys thinking at Rising Star award in 2022 - "....Rising star vs Premiership medallion?...hmmmm.....)
-
I think your right, its just that a few times BBB and/or others were also attempting to mark. I love his endurance and he was geart back in defence to stabilise when Salem wnet down in Rd 1. but.......
-
No way could I figure out TMAc's role. brwon and Fritshc with Maxy resting are the forward weapons now. I love Tom but gee I hope he can find some form and a role that works for the team.
-
Funny you should say that. In pre-match warm ups Williams take 1 or 2 players and gives them 30m kicking practice in a 1 on 1 session with him in the middle of the ground. Hunt was one of those last year and i reckon Williams would be working with him for sure. He just kills attacking momentum as he did last night will ill-directed or executed passing.
-
I agree with all your sentiments on jaydens endeavour and running. But his execution is pre 2017 standard. I thought it had improved but not this year. It stands out now the team has much improved skills across the board.
-
Max mentioned the long break in post match.
-
A class act. Way ahead of Hunt now in value and effectiveness.

Not the only one after wathcing an analysis on On the Couch from earleir this week, with Dunstall bemoaning that Naughton is a great FF but if it hits the deck, which he is good at doing if he can't mark it, there's no-one crumbing and away the ball goes by the defenders. Dogs have been exposed for all to see in their first two matches

For all Gil's huffing and puffing about fines and don't run on the ground, why on earth didn't the AFL have a serious security plan for Buddy . He was lining up for goal for 30 secs. More than enough time to get a squad of fit security guys ready to rush the ground and encircle him. Some swans players tried but his teammates by and large failed in this too. My memory later in the event was seeing Buddy's wife move from elation to possibly a look of major concern for his welfare. A miracle no-one was hurt.

Unfair on Alexander the Great. He was only 5 feet 0 inches so was never drafted. Retired too early at 32 but easily covers Crippa in the leadership stakes in his chosen profession after missing out on draft night. Conquering the world. Cripps has only conquered Lygon st.
