  1. He gave them excellent service which is ore than you can say for many of them. We got Ed Langdon - winners!
  2. Nice call here. As a committed Dee I once had the pleaseure of sitting in the corporate room at a Dees v Dogs game in 1998 as a guest of a Dogs Cttee member. Right in front of me was Charlie Sutton. The game was at Princes park for some reason, dogs won by 3 goals, Grant had 21 disposla and kicked 3. Charlie was held in reverance at the event by all, but Chris Grant turned on a master class in the game and I found his nickname with the Doggies faithful was ' Rolle Royce". He sure was that day and I appreciated him ever since. Both worthy links to each team I reckon.
  3. What we know for sure is that No-one knows. Its all supposition. Bulldogs momentum cannot be sustained over 2 weeks and to think so is ridiculous. Arguments each way: In favour of Dogs - Dogs get to rest up , sore players recover, Dees become bored waiting again, ................ Against dogs - Dogs lose monentum, 2 weeks is mis-managed , Dees get good recovery, May is fit (AA Full back), Naughton loses sleep because May is fit, Dogs become bored too and fill in time watching the Dees prelim win and realise they can't win the GF,..... etc. , etc. Apart from th above, the key issue is the quality of Burgess and medicos in tuning up the team cherry ripe, May is healthy, and they can better manage the emotional drain of a 2 week wait. Teh debate he is all about column inches and who can blame the media for that. They have 2 weeks to fill in too.
  4. Goodwins post game talk to the players was spot on. Jobs not done. All we've done is get the the GF. Enjoy this moment , but The job is to win the GF. Smart - no of the pseudo emotional messaging that the players don't need . I like Bevo and drawing on emotion is a good thing at times. I like Goodwin's more of a "this is us", its worked all year, lets get it done our way"
  5. I knew someone would reply accordingly. It was about the principle rather than an afl/aflw issue.
  6. Everytime I read this thread someone has come up with nothing short of another brilliant idea. Daisy and Garry?
  7. Huge tick for this idea Queanbetan. It won't happen of course but it would be an event and television for the ages.
  8. Brilliant terminology that sums up generally how media types and other short term thinkers see the game. Thanks for that mickey
  9. I heard that session too. King was very very bullish because Dees are a whole of unit system and can cover all eventualities. He couldn't believe Gerard was 50/50 and on what basis. IMO the whole Port game has been overblown and the media have gone nuts in an emotional way. King has shown that up today to have no logic behind it and quoted a few facts and figures to support that contention as you mentioned. The form lines clearly suggest Port were ripe for the taking. Dogs barely beat Lions. Dees trounced Lions. Port beat the Cats but didn't put them away, kicking only 12 goals 14 behinds. We smashed the cats from the first minute This is why Dees are favourites atm. as it should be.
  10. I love the idea of Ken Melville (age 90) being assisted by Garry.??? - both in Perth. There will be plenty of spots for those suggested for the flag unfurling. RDB probably but as a celebration the Tiges did it beautifully in 2018 (for the 2017 flag) which involved a number of important people to participate from Cheer squad, to supporters, older champions etc., Sam Stynes, Neale......... The list could be endless really
  11. He's unavailable. Too busy studying for his exams for his psychology degree at the University of Western Samoa.
  12. Sadly for Jordan, I think this is an option to consider. Smith can play tall, good engine and pinch hit in a number of positions, but mainly an important insurance for the premiership defence set up that will win us the game.
  13. I saw that too. Talk about lazy journalism from Kelly with no feeling for the moment. I'm (ex) working class and I hate the Doggies when we play them.
  14. As I mentioned elsewhere last week, my demons scarf was stolen last Wednesday from my Geelong front garden, in broad daylight. Infuriated I wrote a stongly worded letter to the Editor of The Geelong Advertiser. Nothing in the paper the next day, but to their credit , they published on Friday 10th September, before the game. I have re-created the letter as published, but the Headline was the sub-eds words not mine: "GIVE SCARF BACK OR THE CATS ARE GONNA GET IT A local just stole my Melbourne Football Club scarf placed on a tree in my front garden. As a result, the 'karma' bus is coming for the probable Cats supporter and their team. Would the theif please return it as it belongs to my son" The last sentence isn't true but I thought i'd try and tug the heart strings. Still no scarfback but I have since put 3 others up. I like to think I may have helped in some way to get the PF result.
  15. I disagree. The opposite is true. Will the cats use this as an excuse to continue the same trodden path and not make necessary changes to their list and style - if they can. Its possible they will and " gee , we could beaten those Dees if only we hadn't had a crook oyster from the buffet...."
  16. Bevo said some very nice things about jason taylor in his post match presser last night. And many of his old MFC mates, but with Taylor, he has known since they attended kindergarten together and went through school together. Good friends. Its a great coomentary on Bevo's background and worth a listen.
  17. In our case its true for us though. The tactical decision to start Willem Drew on the bench last night (the stopper Johnno Brown calls the Koroit Flier was mind-boggling. He came on after Libba had ammassed 5 possies in 10 minutes. Our coaching team will be on top of all of this and we don't need to worry about strategy brain fades like that . Players just need to '"..be us.." again and the result will take care of itself.
  18. Great post that summarises the benfits of last night. Dees will not be sucked into to 'one hand on the cup' garbage. That scenario reminded me of the first final against the Eagles in 1988, when we went in thinking ours to lose, and it took Garry Lyon heroics in last minute the win. Not this time. It'll now be inside the team "..Come and get us..."
  19. Interesting background Cards. The Costas were approved Lessees of the Pier from the Crown under a before-the-time unheard of 99 year lease developed under the Kennett govt. The lease is 3 volumes long I am told. This lease underpinned the pier develoments which to this day I have no idea why they are patronised. The Pier is really nothing more than an unsightly carpark with a gawdy building on the end killing all sightlines. Kennett was repsonsibibel for a fabulous re-build of the Geelong foreshore. This Pier works allowed under the lease was not a component of tha. I now feel sorry for Lingy and hope he can recover from this. It would have been hugely stresful.
  20. Yes. I fear ports rucks and midfield more than dogs. Hannan 3 goals in a half? This games just in a parallel universe. We've got this in 2 weeks.
  21. Cameron ling said today on the abc he no longer trusts rohan in finals. H and A form now means nothing. Should not be played in future. His words not mine. Lingy rarely critical of anthong geelong wise too.
  22. How good is beveridge. Forward strategy against port defence is fantastic Yze-like quality
  23. Yes because it was done in front of probably 1.50 million viewers live. Embarrassing yet amusing at the same time.
