  1. Caleb Daniel will still cop it on Wednesday night from Dees fans, as he should. The wannabe standover pose he did deserves a Boo, and was the only dark side of a game played in great spirit by both sides.
  2. Good thoughts Jontee. I think your'e on to something re: Max and if true that's Ok, but Pendelbury is laughable. Naughton's underwhelming GF performance soundly beaten by My questions King's 'Insights". So thus they are predictions which is what the game is al about anyway. He does love salem so credit there that he's consistent in his selection for that position and recognises him in his team. Last year he felt Salem was the key to the Dees and oppos needed a plan for him. But great article for clickbait and King to remain relevant. I can just hear him quoting Champion data as justification.
  3. Bont tried his heart out but he had many passengers. This was clear to me as soon as Brown marked the ball from Tom Sparrows brilliant kick. That was set up by great involvement from Salem, Trac, jackson and ANB. Bont was a solo act.
  4. Heads up on the club website are 2 outstanding videos released today. First is Kate Roffey's speech last night at the AFL Launch where she accepted on behalf of the club the Flag. 6 minutes without notes hitting every key message. Brilliant Bettter is a 16 minute summary video of the GF, including player insights/ineterviews I hadn't seen but importantly the bench discussion between coach and skipper on keeping Jackson in the ruck, and Goodwins 3/4 time speech (or an important piece of it). Not to be missed.

Brisbane, based on 2021 Finals only. Lions were most affected by key players injuries when they played the Dees and can be better (and assuming Daniher does something.... anything) and Dees seemed to have to work harder to get on top. Whereas I think the Cats and Dogs were near full strength (except for Tom Stewart) and were comprehensively outplayed. Cats made no major list changes, no ruckmen and same senior coach - thus they are on a repeat cycle for 2022. Dogs scarring is unknown but are beatable again and haven't improved defence. Thus Lions are my big threat. Good defence and attack and well-coached. Tiges are too good to miss the 8 again but a few ageing stars now. And Dees have the Dusty secret weapon (Hibbered theory)
  6. Any idea why the club website refers to the flag being below the news article but nothing attached?
  7. At the Coterie season launch last Friday night Mike Sheehan interviewed Goodwin. Right up front Mike addressed the media issue and leaks etc and how Goodwin and club were handling perosnally over the last few weeks. Goodwin said "...We all know where the leak came from..." and I've move on type of response after that quote, the journalist in question didn't even call me for a quote/comment. etc. He seems to have had great support and Roffey in her speech had a quiet level of fury and contempt at the articles and intent. She can be on my side anytime in a fight. Lots of people in the room were nodding, so maybe most insiders know and lets get o with 2022. maybe I was the only one in the room that didn't know.
  8. yes he is undersold, esp.in comparison with Smith. Tommo is more tructworthy than Smith re; footy nous. Doesn't fly against team mates, better disposal. Seems for intuitive as a player. Must come in for Petty. Smith scares me in defence.
  9. I reckon your'e right on this, esp given the Kangas game a few days earlier. The team moved straight into gear in the Kangas game without skipping a beat (albeit against poorer opposition than the Blues) and maybe thought all good, still got it etc. And surely thery're only human and were to some degree thinking about the opening round, flag raising, blockbuster etc. The Blues game still proved to them, despite giving away 6 goals and losing by 4 points , they still had the ability to come from a long way back. Nothing to see here hopefully, except for a few issues with Casey candidates.
  10. Thank you. Top post for all of us DJ. I found Barassi on the flag. Hope Ron didn't have to stump up his fee being a life member etc.
  11. I wondered about this. It was a warm humid night yet I saw the Dees running well right to the end. Or am I missing something? Only saw the last 20 minutes though.
  12. Not just last 1/4, but last 5 minutes when we were on the roll to victory - and still nearly won.
  13. If there was ever an opportuniy last night was it for some of them. Last week's annihilation maye told us there on ut won't be as easy again against real talent. IMO Defensive systems work to suit the talent, and those on was on show last night faltered amongst others, so need the flag players mostly back. If a "system" works all the time, then everyone would be doing it. Its the talent stupid. They still now never turn it up. 8 goals down and could have won. Good outcome form the game for mindset. Doggies will notice this.
  14. Its also part of the afl plan to build up blues to get a big crowd and huge expectations. Tiges then thump them as usual
  15. I see this as a really useful hitout for selectors and 2nd string defence to see who puts their hand up for limited opportunities in 2022 in the dees defence. Apart from that just get the cue in the rack for key players early as possible.

No, just the %'s. Peter Lawrence's result was well behind successful candidates, but at 29% should give the Board something to think about that a not insubstantial number of votes went to a new and 'independent' person. An effective Board will hear this message. Its also a good sign the members are engaged (those who voted anyway) Can I add that at least we had an election and not some back room process as occurs usually at the Pies under McGuire.

Kate Roffey stated early in the meeting that it wasn't in-person due to MCC/MCG protocols. Just because cricket was held there maybe there are other issue not resolved in time to allow an open AGM. Anyhow that was the comment.

All 3 current Directors were returned overwhelmingly with 85% plus of votes, Peter Lawrence came 4th with 29%.
  19. So why did you start this time-wasting thread? Thrown some provocative statements out there, not even a general clue to what the issues are to which you allude, despite many queries on here from posters for you to do so. No specifics, just innuendo ..... finsihing up with ' time will tell..' Sheeeesh.
  20. Thanks BBP. Just shows I live in the ever-distant past. Lions in 2005 were the 2004 runners up to Power. Pies missed by 1/2 a game in 1991 ( to the Dees no less) But Hawks in 79, 2009 So in the last 50 years, 5 Premiers have not made follwoing year finals by at least a whole game. Interestingly most/all were coached to the premiership by top notch coaches, with 4 of the 5 in the past 30 years. Recent history that can't be ignored, or just mitigating circumstances in each case.?
  21. What on earth does this post even mean??? The evidence shows the club has absolutely monetarised the premiership short term turning a 1.5M loss into an operating profit of around 2.0M. We'll need to wait for more substantial long term impacts and actions. To suggest this now, with unattributed commentary and innuendo, because that's what this thread origin is all about, , is disrespectful IMO. The AFL is littered with clubs that failed to capitalise on success so a real risk to be managed. North in the 90's, Hawks in the 70's and 80's. And as said in this thread, The Dogs and Beveridge in particular made it an art form. First Premier to miss finals since the Tiges in 1968 I think (but not certain) Pert and Roffey and team are smart enough to learn from others failings in this regard.
  22. Fantastic - win - win IMO And she will be the prodigal daughter returning to the Dees fold in the future is my hope.
  23. Good summary above RJAY but also a Good call by Daisy if she goes to the Cats. Stable club with great team leadership and culture. Scott is one of the best coaches in the AFL and she'll learn a lot from him. He can't help their list management failures. She can return back to the Dees then in a substantial role but having seen the other side of the fence. (Unlike say Nathan Buckley or James Hird. Look how well Yze has gone coming back to us after a sojurn at a strong well coached club) But I'll miss her on Ch 7 Friday night commentary. Big loss for us viewers.
  24. Stan attended the mfc coterie season launch on Friday night. He was interviewed as a past player and spoke movingly about the club and its past and how every past player just appreciates so much what the club as a whole has now achieved. So proud he was. Brian wilson echoed his comments also in a touching way. These guys, like us, really care. Kate Roffey' s address was top notch and powerful. No way will there be a premiership hangover.
