  1. Petracca has really driven me mad with his kicks into 50. Hawks playing really well but it is our stupid mistakes giving them possession. Can't call it at the moment. I am really pi$$Ed at the umpires, two different rules on HTB at the moment.

Infinity and Zurich must be licking their lips, having joined relatively late. But Northern Territory, New Balance and Hertz - who have been with us for a while - must be feeling good right about now. Paying off big time after sticking with us. Their stuff is appearing everywhere, and our club is becoming very savvy at ensuring sponsors names/logos are in most photos or media articles.

What's important is us, the supporters, remembering to use our sponsors. I have remembered 2 or 3 times after making a purchase and been really annoyed with myself.

I try and use Hertz when I travel, and I get my share of New Balance apparel (but not shoes - rusted onto Asics), but using China Southern - still working upto that.

So would losing Stratton and O’Meara be like us losing Hibbo and Brayshaw? Just trying to work out a closish like for like. I must admit I don’t know much about Stratton but if so it’s a couple of top ten players out for them. Huge.

Best mullet in the game since Dunstall and Dermie, Stratton is a huge loss, and my hawks mates are getting on Melb 38+, after hearing about JO'M... Same Hawk mate gave me 2 awesome tickets P22 row A as he will be golfing away. Being in Eutope i made some younger brothers happy. He even promised me his GF ticket should we make it that far, so am hoping he's made a good punt.

Not disputing that we’d miss him and that Smith is a downgrade - that’s why Hibberd is a lock 22 and Smith is on the fringe. Just that I doubt it would be the difference between losing and winning as the loss of other players who are completely irreplaceable would be. The gap between Oliver and our next available midfielder is nowhere near as large as the gap between Hibberd and Smith, for example.

If for your life, you had to choose one from the following players to get injured, which would you choose?

    a) Jetta (best small)

    b) Hibberd (best flanker)

    c) Oliver (best mid)

    d) Gawn (best ruck)

    e) TMac (best tall)

Having just re-watched the game again I reckon ANB played his best game for Melbourne in a final. Great effort.

Just shows that if we keep it simple, work hard and play within our limitations anything is possible.

How good is our development coaching? Bloody brilliant. Just about every player in the 22 is a better player than they were in the first half of the season.

@goodoil Appreciate the respectful tone you take with ANB, but can't agree, watching the tape, he motors to contest to contest, created chopouts and options with his running when the ball carrier was under pressure, laid some huge tackles and seemed to be at every contest providing pressure. Easily top 10 players on the night because he played his role perfectly. Wouldn't surprise me if he gets 4 goals next week, I know there is a goal scorer waiting to break out (again). I also mark him a little easier for his clangers, because he does huge work to get to all the contests it does depreciate the motor skills a bit when you are beyond exhausted, I also see this improving as he goes on and becomes ore adept at dealing with the lactic acid during skill execution.

If someone can locate the genuine Chris from Camberwell, the offer still stands of a gig on one of our Demonland podcasts so that he can illuminate us with his voluminous knowledge of what the MFC needs to succeed in the world.

If we could find Alan Jakovich, then finding Chris from Camberwell should be easy.

Hey WJ, long time since NY, why not give the radio producer a call, they are great at that sort of thing.

  7. I have been having some banter with a Cats coterie member (and former board member), who btw was more than happy when bomber left. Anyway has no confidence in them winning, said he hopes we win the flag.

Personally I'd rather build up Selwood/Danger/Ablett/Hawkins, it makes us look better when we win. And I ave so many Geelong supporting mates (and a few cousins from the maternal side of the family), can't hate them, jealous yes, but they are not Essendon/Collingwood/Adelaide/WCE/Hawks.

Even Scott who I view as a hypocrite of the highest order, I still respect, he has amazing record coaching that compares well (except his finals record which is approaching Hardwick 2013-2016 levels :D)

But -  if they do have blokes targeting Max's back or legs (Mitchell style) Lewis has my full permission to run through and KO any snipers.

  8. Now more than ever, and I thought this after trying to rate 1-22, it truly is about playing your role, I know that sounds like a terrible cliche made for TV, but every name you think of, you think of some 'mission critical' function you want the player to perform, and the consequence of that not happening. It makes the idea of top 6 and bottom 6 a little redundant from how the team will go overall, because if the bottom 6 do the role designed for them (I don't think anyone is being gifted a game) then we will win, but we also need the top 6 and middle 6 to do their bit as well. The days of a few individuals putting 'the team on the back' I think, while still possible are far less likely. Therefore @Pennant St Dee and @layzie are not so far from it, the idea of ANB with his hard running pressure (team role) breaking the game open.

@Yung Blood I based it on current season, with a feel for recent form, as much as Petracca has improved the last few weeks, I am probably marking him a little harder after rating him on potential for so long. Re Jones, yes an argument could be made for 10-15, I am personally finding it hard to rate him correctly. I think he is a senior player and does provide leadership, however a few have gone past him and calculating the intangibles is hard. I also rate his ability very highly to kick Captains goals, more than one his running has put him in position to slot a high pressure kick and the way it lifts the team is a pleasure to behold.

Out of the other players you mention, Garlett, Hunt could be best 22 if they wanted to be (over Hannan/JKH), their form drop off is the disappointment of 2018. Lever is top 10 (VDB would give way) and Stretch (after that teasing cameo before injury) could have an argument for knocking Spargo out (I think 2019 will see even more heat for places)

I can only see Vince getting back in with serious injuries that I do not wish to happen. are depth, ranking 25 to 29i.e. Wagner, Kent, Joel Smith, Pederson, Bugg (had hoped he'd get back).

Stage fright is on the money. They will look to jump us on the counter in the first 10/15mins.

We could have a few boys nervous and rushing their disposals early

Yes a repeat of the QBD match is my nightmare, but in daylight with a half dry track and we will torch them by 6+ goals, our best footy is better than their best footy. Kick a little straighter and with Hibberd and Frost in the back half, we are alot more settled.

Only wildcard is Ablett, he will care about this game, he won't be hiding in his shell trying to preserve himself, I think we should give him more respect.

Chris Scott is also a pretty good coach with an excellent staff, I hope Goody doesn't try anything smart and just backs our contested ball ability.

I don't hate Geelong but want to beat them badly, will still be a failure of a year if we don't win.

In my opinion 3 KPF's works when one of them is Tom McDonald who has a tank as good if not better than most. Play him as a high half forward/2nd ruck/wing option. Leaving Hogan and Weidemann to move into vacant space forward of the ball. All good KPFs know to keep out of one another's space and that will come with time.

Developing their forward "craft" together is what they should be concentrating on over summer. Move the ball quickly like we have the last 2 weeks and there is enough space for all 3 inside the 50!!

Sorry but I disagree, Tmac is best just kicking at the sticks, anything else makes me nervous as he kicks floaters more often than not. Yes he has the tank, and can/could mind a running gorilla, but those kicks are best suited for goal kicking - keep him 45m from goal at all times I reckon.
