Melbourne biggest issue (from an outsider)
3183 Dee replied to Bluey's Dad's topic in Melbourne Demons
I didn't see the clapping after the GWS goal, Choke, but there are supporters who do applaud all goals/passages of play etc. - I'm sure every club has them. However, the vast majority of Melbourne supporters around me during that game were fookin livid. I think Melbourne supporters are the last people you could blame for the club's demise. I'm astounded that we even made 35,000 members to be honest - in fact, the loyalty and resilience of the Demons support is damn astonishing, considering the bollocks we've had to put up with for so long. -
Damn, Port are good. Exciting, tough and just look how many times they hit a target!

Puerile. My son's first game - was hoping for at least something to shout about. He thought Neville Jetta was okay, so did I. Add in Gawn and Jones for effort, the rest were awful.

Thanks Maggot - I came over in 2005, definitely the wrong time, but hopefully things are about to change.
-
Thanks bj - you can't prise the jumper off him, he's as one eyed as they come!

One notable in: my four year old son, Claude, will be attending his first Demons game on Sunday. I'm a first generation (off the boat!) Dees supporter, so this is a special moment for me - the start of a Demon dynasty.

Totally agree - although in light of all the tanking biz, I'm not sure how easy it will be for them to leave out their main players. However, we need to go out hammer and tongs to give them a hiding, both physically and on the scoreboard.

That's what I'm saying, Song, most of those clubs took one dip and were smart about their selection, we tried about 3 times and f-ed it up!
-
We weren't the only ones who tanked (Hawks, Tigers, Eagles and Blues etc), but we were damn well the only club that went back for more, again and again, in the arrogant, f-ed up belief that we could build a dominant side from it. Instead, because our culture at board level was so poor, the recruitment went horribly wrong and we're left with the current mess. However, a new era is starting and it's going to take time, but until we have a club that plays good hard, contested footy with a solid administration behind it, these stories will continue to be written.

CLUB THEME SONGS & THEIR ORIGINS by George on The Outer
3183 Dee replied to Demonland's topic in Special Features
This is brilliant, George - well done. That Richmond 'Row, row, row' is very funny. -
Damian Barrett's anti MFC spin doctoring
3183 Dee replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
He was also the lone journalistic voice, if I recall correctly, that called bulldust on the Demons swapping Pick 2 for Dom Tyson and Christian Salem. -
Apologies if this has been posted already, but an interesting piece on the AFL site has Bail as the Demons' king of pressure: "Bail fills a very specific role for Melbourne. The Demons love his pressure and his ability to cause turnovers, highlighted by the fact he heads the list of pressure acts (159) at the club. Daniel Cross' determination is a given and his club-leading tackle count of 50 should come as little surprise. Bail is second on that table with 47 for the year, bumped up by the 10 he laid against Carlton in his club's first win of the year in round four. That day, the Demons out-tackled the Blues 84-65 and Bail was clearly among his side's best." Could be that in our new team of role-players, a specific one has been allocated to Bail.

Brett Kirk - Roos' successor?
3183 Dee replied to The Song Formerly Known As's topic in Melbourne Demons
Thanks for the info, Machsy. He's been a tremendous import - his commitment to the Dees, after a career as a Bulldog, is incredible. -
Amen, brother. Although I thought hipsters still insisted on supporting Fitzroy?
-
He just gets it.

DEVIL OF A TIME - Match Preview and Team Selection
3183 Dee replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I like the changes - we know that Kent and Viney are hungry, tough nuts, who'll do anything to hold their place. This will make it harder for the dropped guys to get back in, which in turn makes them try harder...and slowly the competitive nature begins to get ingrained on the club. On another note, if you don't have the talls up front, you've got to use speed - hence JKH, Blease and Kent. Also, it would be cutting your nose off to spite your face, to drop Frawley given the forward line at GWS. -
St. Kilda v Melbourne - Match Preview & Team Selection
3183 Dee replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Starting to take shape. Have to say that if you add Hogan, Dawes and Garland, it's starting to look like a half-decent team. -
NAB Challenge 1 - Richmond v Melbourne
3183 Dee replied to Bedraggled Dee's topic in Melbourne Demons
Just caught the last quarter - what impressed me most was the confidence and composure when the ball was in our back 50, no panic, they knew where each other was. Completely different to last year. They also seemed to understand their game plan. Hell of a way to go yet, but the signs are there. -
Amen to that, brother - if you think the Baggies are bad, try supporting Plymouth Argyle! Only good memories of The Hawthorns, mind you.
-
Pah! Rubbish game, anyway.

Some of us are in the unenviable position of being both a Pom and a Demon!
