  1. "it were always rainin' on Denleigh Moor, 'cept when it were fine...but even then it were drizzlin', and if you call drizzle rain, well, it we're always rainin' on Denleigh Moor." - Eric Olthwaite
  2. Although I agree with much of what you say, I have to ask on what "authority" you are able to suggest anything. In your earlier post you state you have had occasion to speak to MN a COUPLE of times... that hardly qualifies you as an "authority"; or is there more to those occasions than just simple banter?
  3. Don't care what anyone says, I like the Derm... sure we loved to hate him, but at least he could take just as much as he handed out. Who could forget the '89 GF when Geelong's Mark Yeates knocked him out... got up vomiting and then went on to put in an amazing game. We need inspirational players like him. Matthews was the Hawk I despised as a player.
  4. Add Kalifornia to that list. Pitt is one of those actors who was at a disadvantage for having good looks - people tended to focus on that aspect and overlook his undoubted talent as an actor who, like Depp, is willing to put himself out on a limb by taking difficult roles in non-mainstream films.
  5. He's a coach, not a media personality. I really couldn't give a fat rat's clacker about his ability to perform in front of a microphone or camera. As was said, as long as his actions speak louder than words, then we should all be very happy.
  6. "They say that travel broadens the mind, till you can't get your head out of doors" - Elvis Costello (God's Comic) and a few from Tom Waits - who seems to have a bottomless well of one liners: "I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy." "I knew him when he was nothing and he hasn't changed a bit" "I'm so goddamn horny the crack of dawn better watch itself around me." "Coleen's belly was shakin' like jelly And I'm gettin' harder than Chinese algebra." "The large print giveth, and the small print taketh away" "There ain't no devil, there's just god when he's drunk" Go here for a more complete list: http://www.intercom.net/local/shore_journal/yas11015.html
  7. Another Spike Milligan description in reference to, I believe, the town of Woy Woy (his parents' home) as: "the world's only above-ground cemetery" I prefer to use it as a reference to Canberra where I did for a short time, work as a gardener in the Woden Cemetery.
  8. Yes dc, more appropriate. Scrooge McTote.
  9. Maybe it's the new year/Xmas spirit, but those are extremely generous odds for GWS.
  10. Troy, like the hundreds of thousands of others to die in that disaster is of course, sorely missed - as supporters we should never forget Troy, but as people, we should never forget the enormity of this and other natural disasters; we should always be ready to offer whatever help we can. It was heartening to see that one child who it was thought had perished, was the other day, reunited with her family... almost 7 years to the day after the event.
  11. Yes, it's always going to be better because it is no longer just a memory. On top of that, a premiership now is a much greater achievement considering the number of teams playing, the travel involved and the pace at which the modern game is played resulting in a high rate of attrition... it really is survival of the fittest.
  12. Maybe we have found our Chinese sponsor for the front of jumper?
  13. It's a typical low budget affair that is nothing more than a bit of fun for all involved. Just be thankful that it didn't involve the coaching staff doing a flash mob... now THAT is a trend I do find disturbing.
  14. I became a supporter in 1956 (or so my parents told me) and once I got a jumper, also sported the number 31, despite the fact my real hero was Hassa Mann. My other favorite back then was Brian Dixon, but I think that was because he was, like myself, a Croydon boy.
  15. Do it on the Queens Birthday weekend and I would be happy to turn up... I used to live not too far away from there in Field Street (just off Alma Rd near the corner of Glenhuntly Rd).
  16. Yes, Davey doesn't need to kick goals in my opinion. If he can use his pace to break away from his opponent on the lead to the 50, he will be able to gather and use his deadly accurate short kicks to hit a leading forward close to goal. Any time is going to have trouble trying to cover a forward line that has Davey's short burst pace and accurate short kicking ability, as well as Howe, Jurrah, Watts, Green and Clark. I just hope our midfield is up for it.
  17. The lyrics to "Young Girl" raised a bit of a ruckus if my memory serves - from Wikipedia: "Controversial at the time and later for its risque lyrical references to underage romance. Allmusic labeled the groups lyrics "bizarrely pedophilic."
  18. Reality check... as good as it would be to see Davey playing the crumbing forward role, let's not forget the OP is from a "close cource" (unnamed) and as such essentially a rumour until we see him line up in the forwards or hear it from Neeld himself. Would be nice though, if true :-)
  19. The early to mid 60's were obviously among the better years but the memories have somewhat faded over time and then there was 2000 when Green and Bruce were firing and we made the GF (although that wasn't such a good memory) But really, in some ways this year is one that I regard as one of our best... it has been a disaster in terms of performance during the season, but it has also been a year where change was forced and for the first time in my memory, the club has made significant changes that will affect the entire culture. I cannot recall ever feeling so positive about the direction in which the club is now heading - I'm sure I've said that before, but this time I really mean it ;-)
  20. I'm sure they would have looked as closely as possible as well as met him and discussed the possibility of his being drafted, with him. What more could they do FCS? At the time, they made what was considered the right decision and we were all pretty excited about his being drafted. You seem to be basing your "mistake" assertion on an opinion you formed AFTER the drafting - the wonderful thing with hindsight is that it's always 20/20.
