  1. And is it Maxwell who's been subbed off with a his leg on ice?... they just said he may miss weeks as well.
  2. The MFC has always had pretty tasteful "special occasion" jumpers... the St Pat's Day green (I bought Jurrah's at auction), the Field of Women with the pink V and lady print, the Shanghai Showdown with the dragon on the side and players name in Chinese characters (bought Warnock's at auction - see a theme happening here? I better not buy anymore) and now this Indigenous Round jumper. Kudos to our designers.
  3. Not keen on the Eagles' effort... has me wondering if they will be entering the field of play decked out in turquoise jewellery and running through a giant dream catcher.
  4. Crows, Kangas, Swans, Freos and ours I like... the award for the worst has to go to the Cats... why couldn't they have done something similar to the Kangas to take the stripes out of the foreground (really really poor effort). I also like the fact that the Swans design was done by Goodes' mother; makes it a little more "special" (to paraphrase Bruce McAvaney) I suppose.
  5. It would only be selling out if they were sitting on their arses doing nothing but count their money (a la Scully). Instead Judd on numerous occasions lifted Carlton off the mat to drag them across the line for a win. Ablett has gone on to win the Brownlow (and likely his third this year) after continually puting in the kinds of performance the big bucks were outlayed for. They have not sold out at all... they have taken the opportunity to be paid their market value and to take on new a tougher challenges after tasting success at their former clubs. Franklin and Goddard are also now proving their worth at their respective new clubs... yes Franklin didn't spark immediately, but he is now starting to display the kind of footy that will justify his pay packet. To talk of loyalty these days is laughable... as soon as the draft was introduced and the players chances of getting to the club they supported as a kid were gone, loyalty went out of the window.
  6. My favourite Altman film is Images... originally, the explanation for it not being released on DVD was that the original print was supposedly lost, but then suddenly it appeared on DVD. Excellent psychological thriller that I first saw around the same time as Polanski's Repulsion (which although rather more visceral, had a few similarities).
  7. I think whichever was chosen, the MFC would have done well... particularly Dangerfield who as well as being an elite mid is also very handy up forward..
  8. Cameron's manager would be well aware of his value and as the press are already touting a figure of at least $1m the bar has been set. They will have seen Buddy go to the Swans for $10m and be well aware that Cameron has much more upside in terms of age on his side, having come 3rd the Coleman medal in just his 2nd year and even more impressively, being named as All Australian full forward in just his second year in the AFL. Jones is rapidly becoming one of the most valuable midfielders in the entire competition and as such, his value will be climbing at a rapid rate... yes, he appears to bleed red and blue (hate that expression), but the club needs to pay him what he is worth to ensure that he is not tempted to go elsewhere. Just because players are already with the club is no reason not to increase their payments as reward for effort and improvement - and in the case of players like Jones, Garland, Dawes etc, that is an investment in the club's finals chances; Frawley, I'm kind of ambivalent about.
  9. But what about the "go home" factor? As soon as he possibly could, he'd probably be on a bus back to the Dartmoor Giants!
  10. Agree with this. Suns are already looking like they may emulate the feats of their "older brother" Brisbane and I would not be in the least bit surprised to see them manage a threepeat; their improvement over the last 12 months has been nothing short of spectacular. GWS will start to do the same in a couple of years.
  11. How long has he been gone now? Give it a rest FFS!
  12. I'm not discounting it completely...playing in Darwin oops!, the Alice could produce a slightly more level playing field (excuse the pun), not to mention that had a pretty hard slog against Hawthorn while we had a week's rest. If we don't manage to win, I think it will be a fairly close contest.
  13. Prestia is with a side that will be playing finals THIS year and that are much much closer to playing a GF than we will be for a few years yet.
  14. Kind of and kind of not. You said "MFCs main concern is keeping Hogan beyond the end of next season. Footy department doing everything they can, however, my reading of it is that footy department think he is more likely to leave than stay. My view is our only hope is if this group can quickly improve on-field....... make the future look exciting." So you had put it out there that the MFC was concerned about keeping him beyond 2015... maybe just a matter of semantics, but that does read like the MFC is worried and hence your own opinion coming on the back of that. Anyway, doesn't matter... we will find out all in good time.
  15. Well, let's hope his Hogan mail is the 1 out of 10 he gets wrong ;-)
  16. Who got stuck into you in that Hogan thread? I just took a look and the only response I saw to your comment was to query with the logic of Roos taking a Director of Football position after a $1.6m per year contract...It's Time I think it was, said: "Not sure the logic behind Director of Football when he's reportedly earning $1.6mill" I certainly did not see any comments that were abusive or spiteful in any sense of the word... certainly nothing deserving of an apology.
  17. This is a serious question... what exactly is our track record wth career ending injuries (and if you want to add this in to the mix, associated depression)?
  18. No more silly than raising them really. How does it help either way other than to feed the endemic pessimism on these forums? :-)
  19. Only one what could be termed "sub par" performance which was when his hammy (I think it was) gave him some grief... and the effort he put in during that game would have translated to above par... so I give him an 11. Did you mean top 5 AFL wide or at MFC? I would rate him top 5 AFL wide, Ablett being the only clear leader there.
  20. I'm loving his year this year.
  21. Valerie June doing "Somebody to Love" - I know a lot of people will hate her voice (at first I thought she sounded like Kasey Chambers on helium), but after watching for a few minutes I was so mesmerised by her performance that I had to go and see her second Bluesfest performance which I liked even more than the first... she is a genuinely eccentric performer in the best possible sense:
  22. bing181, here are some clips of those among my favourites: Nikki Hilli (husband Mike on guitar) doing a cover of AC/DC's Whole Lotta Rosie: North Mississippi Allstars doing 'Po Black Maddie', 'Skinny Woman' and 'Rollin and Tumblin' and others: http://youtu.be/R6ZTgU-DoI0
  23. I'm not saying he had a bad year last year... I meant he took a step back compared to his 2012. Let's face it, in last year's Bluey it was Jones followed by daylight and the rest didn't really matter.
