  1. 1. Norm Smith 2. Ron Barassi 3. Jim Stynes
  2. He was in Sydney visiting Tom Scully. They are very good friends.
  3. Can we please get the club to organise a 'fundraiser' where the 'gameplan' is explained to the members. I'm pretty tight with my dosh but I'd gladly throw in a hundred bucks or so to actually know what the gameplan is.
  4. 4 to 6 weeks. Should be back in about 10 in that case.
  5. A really good report - well done. By the way, it was Barry Bourke that Peter Hudson fell across and wrecked his knee.
  6. Denis Clark played mainly in the centre. He didn't play in the back pocket. Our captain played there. Kelvin Clarke was too small and too light.
  7. Let me set the scene. 1. An important match. 2. A very important kick ... butchered! What is your nomination? Mine is ... Simon Eishold, 4th quarter, Preliminary final, 1987
  8. I think Spud Dullard kicked 3 goals with his first 3 kicks. He got his nickname from his old man who also played for the Dees. Greg Parke was a very good mark but a shithouse kick. He took 20+ marks in a game against Essendon in 1969. Gary Hardeman was a star. Started in 1967 on the half forward flank. Played there for a couple of seasons then moved to CHB. I think I'll start a new thread: "Worst important kick ever" I've already got the winner!
  9. Yes, he was. His nickname was 'Bona' but we won't go there!
  10. Straight from the horse's mouth.
  11. Denis Clark was handy for a while. (His son played one game). Saw him kick a goal from the middle of Western Oval (with the breeze) in Round 2 1971.
  12. Not sure if this has been mentioned anywhere else, but Sam Blease has got his favourite number (17) for next season. Sam's dad wore number 17 and Sam wore it right through his junior career. Good luck Sam, we haven't had too many great 17's in my lifetime. Except Kelvin Clarke of course.
  13. I have had feedback from two different sources relating to David Misson's first impressions of the players. One current player said that at his first meeting he told the players that "they would need to be at least 50% fitter". A different source knows David via his previous connections in athletics. David told him that he could tell that the players were not fit enough, "just by looking at them"!
  14. The quickest way to ruin a footy club would be to give the bullet to "good, hard working, loyal" players. Is Jamar to be traded to a billiards club or another footy club?
  15. That means there are a hell of a lot of 'greats' out there. Stretch was a 'handy' player. Good outside. Long kick.
  16. I seem to remember $18000 for 3 years. I loved his nickname "Topaz Tilley".
  17. Nice work! You must be as old as me. Ed Burston!! I watched him kick 6 goals against Hawthorn one day in 1966. He now lives on the Mornington peninsula. I bumped into him about 10 years ago. He couldn't beleive that I remember him. A couple of other boom recruits in my time: Tony Thiessen, Hugh Bromell, Graeme Molloy.
  18. 1965 was the worst year in my time barracking for the Dees. Won our first 8 games and didn't make the finals. NS sacked. Club in total disarray.
  19. 1976 was 6 out of 10. About right for a team that did not make the finals.
  20. 50 years of watching the Dees Here’s my score (out of 10) each year. 1962 to 1969 7, 8, 10, 3, 2, 5, 5, 2 1970 to 1979 4, 5, 5, 4, 3, 4, 6, 3, 2, 4 1980 to 1989 3, 1, 4, 4, 4, 3, 4, 8, 8, 7 1990 to 1999 7, 6, 4, 4, 8, 5, 4, 3, 8, 4 2000 to 2009 8, 4, 6, 3, 6, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3 2010 to 2011 5, 3 Average: 4.7 Fail! Apologies to any statisticians, the sample is based on only watching about 700 matches live.
  21. "I believed" until about 6 weeks ago. Scully is going. Does anyone seriously believe he is going to go up to GWS, check out the facilities then announce "these are crap, I'm staying at Melbourne". The whole thing has become totally BORING. TS, deliver your verdict, ASAP!
  22. Supporters need to be realistic. Not positive, not negative. The reality is that there is a lot to be concerned about. 1. Schwab? 2. Connolly? 3. Coach for 2012? 4. We have 2 'top shelf' footballers. Trengove and Frawley. Premiership contenders have 8 to 10. 5. We have 15 other players who are clearly of AFL standard. Jones, Watts, Gysberts, Sylvia, McKenzie, Grimes, Green, Garland, Moloney, Jurrah, Rivers, Martin, Howe, Jamar, Bail That's a total of 17. We're about 10 players short of potentially being a good side. Players who need to be axed, contract or no contract: Warnock, Bate, Morton, Dunn, Maric, Newton, McNamara, Davey The good news from an otherwise poor season: T. Viney, J. Viney, Jones, Watts, Frawley, Trengove, McKenzie, Garland, Moloney, Rivers, Martin, Tapscott, Howe, McDonald, Blease, Gawn, Nicholson, Evans In summary: A long, long, long way to go.
  23. Check out what our 'Ball movement' coach has to say about Bartram. Either Mark Williams has to quit or several Demon posters must resign immediately. We need a 'clean out' after all.
