  1. You only have to read the story about Dusty to GWS in 2013 where it was all agreed and in place but then "pulled from above" at the 11th hour, to know how these things play out.
  2. Key term there isn't "role players", it's "consistent". If players can guarantee a certain level of performance and to play in a certain way, then a place can be found for them in the team, and in a way that doesn't compromise the team.
  3. Of course. But for some people, just blocking or ignoring isn't a solution. D'land, like most social media, can quickly turn personal, even nasty, and some people just don't need that in their lives. If that's the case here, good on Skuit for doing what he needs for his own well-being and mental health.
  4. Martin is a bit like that kid at school that was so much better than everyone else that the teachers would make him change teams at half time to even things up.
  5. Not sure how this is going to work. Brown in but no Mac out, plus Weideman and Jackson?
  6. Surely the only decent pick we might have coming back via trades would be for Tommy Mac? Presumably GWS will have a ***load of picks coming back from their mass exodus, perhaps they'll be more inclined to sprinkle a little of that fairy dust our way.
  7. If we give up 23, how do we get Brown?
  8. Odd thing to say when both Petracca and May credited Goodwin with their improvement, Viney cited him as one of the main reasons he wanted to stay, and we improved our year-end ladder position from 17th to 9th. But heh, confirmation bias.
  9. Goodwin? Is there a single player in our forward 6 who'd get a game in either of the two teams in the GF? I think not, Fritsch might be the only one.
  10. Where did they finish in 2016?
  11. It's nowhere near a top 4 side, on paper or anywhere else. In 2018 Richmond had *eight* players in the AA squad. Eight. We'll be lucky if we get 3.
  12. I suspect 2 years wouldn't get him across the line.
  13. He addresses that in the article.
  14. Experience.
  15. I think the players better show some very clear progress in 2021. Re Richmond/Hardwick: No accident that Dustin Martin won the Brownlow the year Richmond won the premiership. No accident either that from that 2017 team, in 2018 the Tigers had 8 players in the AA 40 man squad.
  16. Yes. Also at lower/junior levels, which then discourages gay players from persevering, regardless of their ability.
  17. Any studies to back that up? This from a quick search, maybe you have other research: "The annual incidence of registry-identified miscarriage has declined significantly between 1998 and 2016." https://academic.oup.com/humrep/article/34/11/2120/5611272
  18. We don't hold any cards here. Given that Preuss is a fringe player who wants to leave for better opportunities, in the current AFL environment his contract is as good as worthless. About the only things we have going for us is that neither us nor the Giants want to be seen as [censored] to deal with, because sooner or later that's going to come back to bite you (see Essendon).
  19. He also wants to leave. 3rd round.
  20. That's a low bar. I'm sure that those small country teams that lose every match by 10 goals or more are "trying to win matches". What spelt the downfall of Fitzroy wasn't that they were uncompetitive, but that they went into administration.
  21. If we assume that what you mean by "success" is on-field success, we clearly are not. If that were the case, then clubs with the biggest "investment" (= most members) would consistently have on-field success, and vice versa. You only have to look at the teams in the 8 this year to see that that's demonstrably untrue.
  22. I don't believe that "winning football matches" or any performance-related objective appears anywhere in the club's statutes or constitution.
  23. We're not shareholders and we're not investing, we're buying memberships (a product).
  24. "Bennell’s partner Amy Crellin, who is pregnant, and his young daughter Carter, had already returned to Perth." https://www.perthnow.com.au/sport/afl/former-coach-ross-lyon-pledges-for-harley-bennell-support-amid-return-to-wa-ng-b881682358z
