  1. No, Frawley is the man for the job. For starters, Scarlett is 192cm and 94kg, Frawley is 193cm and last weighed at 91kg although i would be guessing more by now. But for me, more exciting than the great run and carry he displays, the quality kicks that hit a player on the chest far more often than not is his actual one on one work which is arguably his weak point atm. When he is getting beaten he doesn't to quote one of my favourite commentators 'drop his chutney' he analyzes the situation and reels his opponent back in. He learns. Add the amount of development years Scarlett had before he was as good as he is now and I think Frawley will be every bit as good if not better.
  2. Hmmmm, I think our hatred of the Filth clouds our judgement at times. Whilst not the best No 1 pick up of all time, he has been far from ordinary over the years. I remember conversations with my Demon mad father over wishing we had his services not that many years ago........
  3. In that case, sharpen your pencil because in 2 years time Bennell will fight right into that category.
  4. Oh come on! I don't want to change the topic of the thread either, but comparisons to Holland? I mean damn! Even Rnd 22 2009 was not a totally poor performance despite the obvious role changes after half time. His work off the ball is also second to none at the club which we desperately need with so many small and/or lightly built forwards! Great teams aren't teams that have stars in them, great teams are teams that have stars with the right kind of support.
  5. Absolutely, me too. Although I have been meaning to post re: Miller for quite a while and was waiting for a time i felt was right. He is continually left out of best 22's, seen as leaving at the end of next year and in this OP (which i otherwise completely agree with) he has been left out all together. Where does this mass hatred/dislike/disdain for such a great clubman come from? Being overseas I have wonderful access to the last two seasons, every from every round. Like many of us, I'm going through my off season withdrawals so have been randomly watching those 44 melbourne matches to the point where I think i've seen all of them at least twice. A little sad? Definitely, however keep in mind it is dark at 4.45pm and only 3-13 degrees at the moment here in Germany. However, i'll tell you one thing, when Miller is firing, Melbourne is firing. Sometimes that is only for a quarter, sometimes weeks not at all. But when he is dominating, AND HE DOES DOMINATE NO MATTER WHICH DEFENDER IS ON HIM ONCE HE'S GOING we look the goods. A C grade midfield looks amazing when he is leading up the ground. Now, lets get a little serious for a moment though. Is he shaky in front of goal? Yes, but he is not alone there. Mooney, Kosi even Hall can look pretty ordinary at times. But at the old fashioned CHF he wouldn't need to be lining up for goals that often. A give and got to Davey, Sylvia, Moloney and hopefully Tapscott is more than acceptable. Plus, the man is a confidence player. I think we can all agree on that. When our other KPF are kicking more goals and the pressure to score personally comes off him a bit I'm going to put my house on his consistency improving. He can then become the 'nail in the coffin' kind of player we need. Can we please, as passionate supporters, keep an open mind on him this year. Not every player has the ability to turn or win a match of their own work. He is actually one of them. If by years end it is the same old story, fine, i agree it is too little too late. C'mon Miller and C'ARN THE DEES!!!!
  6. Here here. This kind of greediness, get our own way at any cost sounds like Filth tactics to me.
  7. Accountancy must be and extremely boring or stressful job. I've met so many with a similar 'cut snake' kind of aggression. It was just a question man, switch to decaf.....
  8. Although I was initially keen on giving him one more chance, i've gone completely cold on him. Plus a rookie pick would be great with some rough diamonds out there sure to slip
  9. I'll do two just for sh$ts and giggles; 1.Scully 2.Trengrove 11.Black 18.Bastinac 34.Daw 50.Patrick OR 1.Trengrove 2.Scully 11.Talia 18.Tapscott 34.Taylor 50.Grimes Surely JoMac in the PSD is a given. Looking at these again, they are more like wish lists than actual predictions. Lets see...... GO BP, GO DEES!!
  10. I know the idea and fun aspect of forums like this is to voice our (often but not always) amateur opinions around, but the lack of respect for the well educated and informed opinions of the experts in the field amazes me sometimes. (I'm not just talking about Burgan here by any means by the way) A lot of complaints at taking Gawn "too early" yet purely as an example, sorry eraadyn for singling you out, here we have a player no expert rates below 30 as being perfectly at 18 in Panos. Or Griffiths for that matter. All in all our picks in Burgos seem ok to me. We would be deluded expecting perfection and this group of players is one of many combinations that will suit me fine. All faith in BP i say...
  11. I'd rather see Majak at 50 than Thorpe, but i think that list is acceptable. Really hate missing out on Tapscott though, he is an icing on the cake kind of player.
  12. Well said. I'm not writing the kid off, but he looks like a far bigger risk to me. Perfect for carlton
  13. I dunno, watch out for the Port Adelaide "smoky"
  14. Couldn't go past Butcher. As rough as he is, its his interview that impressed me the most. I think that inconsistency will be a thing f the past in three years time, making him by far the best of the talls
  15. Potentially the position that has been left open by the retirement of Wheatley, the inefficiency of Bell and the injury of Strauss. A deep side is a powerful side, lets not forget that. A lot of people are forgetting just how many injuries we will sustain throughout the year, even in the best case scenario. So having flexible players like McDonald, Dunn and Martin possibly not in the starting 22 but in the first line to step in to replace is a huge bonus. But agreed, McPhee is not for us
  16. Why, just to complete the hatrick of White Deciples who went on to better things at other clubs? Starting the season with no real option in the ruck would have been madness, plus his end of the season was STRONG, damn strong. This will be his year, mark my words
  17. But hang on, thats wrong. Feel free to shoot me down in flames if I have got this wrong, but everyone continually talks about will we use 34 or not. By my math, our picks are this; 1,2,11,18,34 and 50 or PSD1 then 2 rookie picks. This is based on the following and my understanding of how the system works; MELBOURNE ADDITIONS Nil DELETIONS Simon Buckley Delisted Brock McLean Exchanged to Carlton Russell Robertson Retired Paul Wheatley Retired Matthew Whelan Retired VETERANS Cameron Bruce Outside RETAINED ROOKIES Rhys Healey 2nd Year Danny Hughes 2nd Year (Mature) Jordie McKenzie 2nd Year Jake Spencer 3rd Year So, with 5 delist/traded players plus Bruce added to the veterans list makes 6 picks. 1,2,11,18,34 and 50 or PSD1. Bruce and McDonald on the Vets list reduces our allowed number of rookies from 8 to 6, so we have room for two more. So either I'm right and everyone can stop bluddy going on about pick 34 or I'm completely wrong and everyone gets my permission to make me look like a grade A tallywacker
  18. Ted Striker: My orders came through. My squadron ships out tomorrow. We're bombing the storage depots at Daiquiri at 1800 hours. We're coming in from the north, below their radar. Elaine Dickinson: When will you be back? Ted Striker: I can't tell you that. It's classified.
  19. FLYING HIGH! "Just remember, we are all counting on you"
  20. I definitely think that should and will happen. His thumb/finger operation was for exactly that reason. He has been marking in pain and still doing a pretty decent job of it. He is a tidy shot at goal and a tricky 'tall' to match up on due to his floating, ambling sideways style of cutting in front of packs. Shouldn't play out whole games there but should definitely rest regularly up forward. Particularly if a spare man in defense is giving us trouble, he should be (along with Petterd depending on the player) the 'defensive forward' option in my mind.
  21. McDonalds onfield leadership and tackling alone surely get him over the line. He is also deceptively quick over short distances (seen him towel up Cyril a few times) and one touch usage is incredible. Our tackling has improved out of sight since he has bee captain, can't be just a coincidence. When fit, he needs to be on the park
  22. Unfortunately for us though, PJ's best is WAY off what we need. At least Stef is unpredictable. Hell, not even our players have any idea what he's going to do; hence him cleaning them up a hell of a lot, lol
  23. Look, i just can't agree with that. I'm now living in Germany and love having access to almost all games from this year and 2008 at my disposal from an international website. Since Rd 22 i've been going back over a lot of different players as i slowly trawl back through all these old games. In particular, naturally, those who were unfortunately injured most of the year ie. Wona, Garland, Buckley etc. Yes, he shows some glimpses, no he's not big enough to be a true "tall" defender, yes he can be creative AT TIMES. But compared to the run and dash combined with strength and fantastic "never drop your chutney" attitude of Frawley, he just pales in comparison. And lets not forget this preseason will be one of extremely few for Rivers, who at 100% is a better playmaker and one on one defender. I like the guy, he can play, but i'm not awaiting his return as anxiously as some. Take it from someone who has been rewatching all those heartbreaking '08 games. Some people are remembering his play with rose tinted glasses. Having said all that, this year will be important for him and I hope he continues to improve. GO DEES!!
