  1. Trengove has improved over the last few, so has Spencer.. Blease and Howe could be anything
  2. most of you burn a lot of calories slamming our current players, even the young ones, but there's a lot of room in your hearts for a player that vastly underperformed and essentially left us a KPP short for a very long time. There was less love for the retirements of the likes of Yze, Bruce, Robertson and White - who actually performed for our club. FCS Miller seems to be more popular than Moloney, who has finished in the top 4 of our BnF three times and is a current player. Hypocrisy and stupidity at its highest
  3. brisbane gave us Clark, Joel Mac, and Grimes - cannot thank them enough
  4. I remember seeing this exact thread at this time 6 years ago. We have actually gone backwards since then. How's this for a thought to keep you awake tonight - when we run out for round 1 next year we may well be missing Davey, Moloney, Bate, Jurrah and Bartram - for different reasons of course. Whatever way you look at it, this group of players were amongst our strongest, and that's when we were finishing 12th-14th. Now you take out their experience and importance, what sort of side do we have left - absolutely nothing, thats what. Who are our senior stalwarts now? Rivers, Jamar and Sylvia - fantastic group for the developing group to model themselves on. We are in some serious shiz if you ask me
  5. can't wait to read the 'matthew bate retires' thread in about 2 years - I love you Bate you always gave your all, played some great games, we lost 99% of them, but thanks anyway
  6. dis·in·gen·u·ous/ˌdisinˈjenyo͞oəs/ Adjective: Not candid or sincere, typically by pretending that one knows less about something than one really does. i saw every game he played for us and him in the bests about 5 times. That's just a statement of fact. What I call disingeneous is rewriting history because a bloke has retired. Will go down on a long, long list of game-sponges that have occupied our list over the years. Hopefully Neeld will not allow waht his predeccosrs did
  7. McLean and Sylvia Neither squeaky clean, each picked exactly where 16 clubs expected them to be picked
  8. would be nice to field a side that includes at least one notable goalkicker - i'm not sure there is a brand of football more annoying than the brand that sees you get equal inside 50s but be comfrtably beaten. LJ has played 36 out of a possible 74 since his debut, so like most of his teammates, we can manage to get our good players on the field just under 50% of the time.
  9. thats exactly what Ive been saying for years. Simpletons like to pretend that we 'picked the wrong blokes' wanting to tar and feather CC/BP, because that explanation is simpler, and it helps you to move forward, because you can say 'hey let's get a better recruiter and this crap will stop happening', unfortunately that is not the case. When a player gets drafted to the MFC he goes into an environment that has second rate facilities, staff and equipment. The culture of the club is largely one of mockery and apathy, playing to small crowds and constantly subjected to attacks from the media. There is no culture of success and there are no champions around the place showing them how its done. That's why your garden variety first round draft pick inevitably becomes an ordinary-at-best player, while at the big clubs he would be star. If you could wave a magic wand and swap Morton for Dangerfield I would wager you'd find Dangerfield playing in our magoos with Morton starring in Adelaide. you need analyse no further than McLean/Morton/Sylvia. Pick 3,4 and 5, none of them surprise selections, all failures. What are the odds we picked 3 duds like that vs its the clubs development at fault for not bringing them to their potential? I'll ask you this - why did Cale Morton get nearly 100 disposals in a 3 week period in his first season, as well as play solid roles in key positions at either end of the ground, and now could stake a claim for the worst player in the comp? What about McLean who looked a certain champion? What happened? Why does nobody ever take the step to the next level at this club?
  10. yep, that's all there is to be said, and I'm sure we won't be any clearer about it until october 8th
  11. has it ever occurred to you that Sydney and Collingwood MADE their players like that? I mean seriously do you think their recruiters have some magic crystal ball that ours don't? What do they do take their draft profiles to a fortune teller?
  12. i've mentioned this before, on the website they have GAWN IN 60 SECONDS, I saw Watts interviewed prior to the GWS game, Max asked him if Blease will be playing on Scully, he said he's certainly be putting his hand up or somthing like that - to me it was obvious that Blease is filthy on Scully because he was a good mate and Scully bullshirted him like he did everyone else and then cleared off on him. Hard to believe he' be chasing him up there.
  13. yeah well i knew he was a gun like 10 years ago when saw him play under-10s :0 besides you cant say he was a gun, he has done many gun things but they have generally they were good moments in very quiet games, until yesterday
  14. i'll never forget that great game he never played please can the days of hanging on to players who give us nothing for years be gone Newton I'm thinking of you Brad Miller, 5 good games out of 150, i'm thinking of you too
  15. Do we really need him? I mean of course we'd like him, but would our resources be better used on a different kind of player? Clark is bona fide gun, there's no disputing that. His support staff may include Watts, Jurrah, Petterd and as we've learnt this year Garland and/or Rivers. Then there is of course jumpin' Jeremy, for me it is hard to argue he shouldnt be full-forward as his the best contested mark in the universe. Martin and Jamar have both shown effectiveness as resting forwards. Sylvia and Trengove are both midfielders who can play forward with their ability overhead and on the lead. Even Sellar has kicked a few, and Dunn has kicked more than a few, even Bate has. When you throw in one or two of Bennell, Blease and Jetta I have named 17 players that could possibly make up six spots, some of which are rotating. I just wonder if we should be investing in the forward line at all. The defense is pretty good too, specially with young Macdonald coming through, I think we should be going for a classy midfielder if anything. We have an abundance of grunt in there with Moloney, Jones, Sylvia, McKenzie, Magner and soon Viney - but we lack the type that sends laser beams onto the [censored] of Clark the way Yze and Johnstone used to do. I'm not sure who on the list could become that player, I don't think anyone has those skills except Davey in his heyday.
  16. true, I noticed today how good his awareness and composure are, there were times when he had the play in 'play-on' mode, and he was looking around to find an option, he never looked sideways or anything but was moving very slowly with no panic, looked like he would get run down but he knew he was fine, can't teach that either, Grimes has that too
  17. has to be said at this stage his disposal makes him a liability. Cannot have any player with those skills in a premiership side.
  18. correct. as previously stated, for about 108 out of 120 minutes (90%) of the game we lost by a point - however, it has to be acknowledged we piled on 5 goals to 1 in the last 20 minutes or so, commonly referred to as 'junk time'
  19. yep, was just typing he averages 27 touches over the last 4. Unsurprisingly, he has hit the magic 50 game mark and you can see the development occurring. He is such a cool customer I reckon he is all over the idea that he is co-captain and he is really giving it his all.
  20. great post agree entirely. I agree on the players' builds - and moreso the way they go about it, they are diving in and getting hard, tackling and bumping hard, the way Neeld said he wanted to make them.So that's pleasing. Grimesy averages 27 touches over the last month, he's really coming good. I take back my Spencer bashing, I can't believe how much he seems to have improved in such a short time, I couldn't believe my eyes when he smothered that handpass and gathered against two opponents.
  21. Not great but the doom from some is unwarranted, it's obvious our big problem today was up forward. We are missing Clark, Watts, Jamar, Davey, Frawley, Martin, BARTRAM and Jurrah. In addition to that there is about 8 fringe players unavailable so we are picking blokes who are our 40th best option. Good luck anyone beating anyone with that level of importance dragged out of their side. As usual the odd clanger is the thing that costs us. -inside 50s: 50-50 -after 12:22 minutes in to the match it was 4.1 to 0.1, after that we lost 12.10 to 12.9
