It speaks to the amateur mindset of the club that they allowed this to occur. No coach should enter any season without a defining "purpose" whatever that means anyway. This is sport, the purpose is to win. It doesn't take a Rhodes Scholar, the fact Goodwin has identified this lack of purpose, in hindsight, says everything you need to know about how the club was run following the flag from the Board/Pres, CEO, Coach/FD down to the leadership group. It's unacceptable.

100% and this was evident for all to see in the collapse against the Saints. I appreciate Goodwin's honesty and ability to reflect, he is a legend of the club and will always be welcomed back - but I find his comments unfathomable. You had difficulty redefining your purpose? How about aiming for excellence, consistently being the best in the comp, winning a flag at the G, being the best Demons side, being the best team of the modern era etc etc. Lofty aims, sure, but I don't understand how there could be a lack of focus and an inability to define your purpose. Good on him for identifying it and being able to reflect as I said but I don't understand how that was allowed to occur. As others said above, a whole of club thing not a one person thing.

If I were we wouldn't have traded in Schache, Fullarton, Billings et al I would've prioritised guys like Peter Wright and Mabior Chol over the last few years as well. But yeah, Tim Lamb's doing an excellent job 👌

If Kentfield and Jefferson are still on our list in 2 years I'll be amazed. I also think people are over-rating Melkshams season, he had a standout game against the Lions and a couple of other good games but was far from effective too often. Regularly tried to take the lazy option calling for the ball out the back/trying to take speccies on his opponent and not great at applying forward pressure either. If we didn't have such a poor list/forward line he wouldn't have got another year.

Its easy to look good when you have Daicos, Pendlebury, Sidebottom etc delivering the ball inside 50. How will he go getting delivery from Viney, Oliver, Langdon etc?
