I'm glad we have the Sun's and I'm glad North are still in Melbourne. Anyone wishing death or relocation on other teams should have a good hard look at themselves. What happened to Fitzroy (and almost us and Hawthorn) should never happen again. Remember North and Fitzroy wanted to merge but were blocked by the AFL and the other clubs.

Game plans, tactics and all that jazz
Depends how they're used. Have a look at the great post earlier in the thread by I think @Axis of Bob a great example of how we might now be utilising Max's hitout dominance to our advantage to put the ball away from their +1 around the stoppage and maximising our midfielders strength to win contested possessions. This allows us an extra behind the ball in case we lose the stoppage or to have one on ones in our forward line if we win.

Unless you have someone like Max who utilises his strength to mark around the ground both intercept marks deep in defense and for get out kicks aroubd the centre. One stat I found fascinating was that Nic Nat averaged less than a mark a game in 2020 (0.8 compared to Gawn 4.5), I don't know why more rucks don't model themselves on what Maxy does.

On this day in 1994 ...
Pretty sure he kicked something like 4 goals 10 behinds that day. Missed an absolute sitter from just outside the goalsquare then minutes later dobbed one from 50 out on the boundary.

Why did Petracca tell him to settle when he took that intercept mark in the 3rd and go back for a set shot? Hard to tell what was ahead on the tv but it looked as though he could've run in for a regulation shot at goal. Sometimes it's better to have a shot on the run instead of go back for a set shot as it's a more fluid action.- WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - KYSAIAH KROPINYERI PICKETT
As soon as I saw him line up in the centre for the opening bounce against Freo I thought this is going to be a great move. He's obviously pinch hitting at the moment but we seem to use him for the opening bounce of most quarters before he moves forward. Gives us real x-factor around the ball to kick things off.- Clayton Oliver Contract negotiations
Max was drafted in 2009, how many years do you reckon he has left? How much money do you reckon moving LJ on would free up? It just makes no sense especially when others like Hibberd, Melksham, Jetta, AvB, Jones plus others like Baker, Bedford etc would all be primary candidates to be retired, traded or delisted at end of year. Hell I reckon we'd probably move on Weideman before LJ especially if Brown can string games together and TMac continues his early season form.- What they're saying at Parramatta Road
Came to post the exact same thing, great minds Ethan ?- Your Top 5 Demons Players of All Time
1 Jakovich 2 Farmer 3 Schwarz 4 Lyon 5 KOZZIE!!!- Clayton Oliver Contract negotiations
Tim Kelly?- Clayton Oliver Contract negotiations
I disagree wholeheartedly. I have total faith that if Oliver and Petracca commit to us it will not be at the expense of LJ.- Clayton Oliver Contract negotiations
haha why would Jackson sign until end of 2022 and then want out after 2021?- Clayton Oliver Contract negotiations
Kelly for Gus where do I sign?? Not that it's worth spending too much time thinking about as we won't land him but anyone who wouldn't sacrifice Brayshaw to get Kelly in as our silk outside mid are having a laugh.- Clayton Oliver Contract negotiations
I think sunny Queensland is having a positive effect on the old boy ?- Clayton Oliver Contract negotiations
ASA's are Additional Services Agreements I think, the old 3rd party deals. These now come under the cap as a separate item.- Clayton Oliver Contract negotiations
It's realistic, every single player manager will be telling their clients to only sign up until their FA. It doesn't mean he's going to leave at that point it just gives him better leverage to get more money.- Clayton Oliver Contract negotiations
The opposite to that is when we front-loaded Frawley's contract which gave us no option to match as we found out it was based on the final year's salary, not the average salary over the length of the contract.- Garry Lyon inspired win?
Or when we upset the Tigers dedication to Tommy Hafey after he passed away.- Clayton Oliver Contract negotiations
If he re-signs it would likely be for 2 years to take him up to FA- Trade Fritsch
The role he is playing he has to nail those shots. If he can convert his opportunities he could be our Gunston or Breust. If he doesn't then he becomes a liability.- Trade Fritsch
I don't know whether we can/will accommodate all of Brown, Weid and Fritsch. At the moment it looks to me as though one of Jackson or TMac will eventually make way for Brown and Fritsch and Weid are competing for that 3rd tall spot. It all depends on how TMac holds up, how Jackson comes on (and how he goes chopping out Max) and how we go with injuries. - WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - KYSAIAH KROPINYERI PICKETT
