"A man who allegedly robbed a renowned Victorian cartoonist has been caught, thanks to a detailed caricature drawn by his victim. Police said the cartoonist, Bill 'Weg' Green, who is famous for his drawings of AFL Grand Final posters, offered to draw a picture of the robber when police arrived at his home in Melbourne's east. Senior constable Aaron Roche, who attended the scene, said: "It was amazing, the likeness was just fantastic." The sketch only took the cartoonist three or four seconds, Mr Roche said. He said the alleged robber, "picked the wrong place to burgle." True story https://www.theage.com.au/national/cartoon-sketch-snares-robber-20060117-ge1l6z.html

JB will have these sets eventually they are called Victory Packs and also come with a season highlights DVD. I also saw JB have produced box sets of the entire season for recent premiers. Hopefully these are sold through the MFC too so you can buy direct and give them your money instead of it going elsewhere.

POSTGAME: GRAND FINAL vs Western Bulldogs
Brady is GOAT and he's still going. Won 3 superbowls with New England between 2001-2004 (missed 1) won another 3 between 2013-2017 (missed 1, lost 1) and then shifted teams last season and won another with Tampa Bay. In the years he didn't make the superbowl they were generally playing off for the Superbowl in conference championships (equivalent to the Prelims). If we could emulate the Patriots over the last couple of decades I wouldn't complain.

POSTGAME: GRAND FINAL vs Western Bulldogs
I suspected the Demons were loading before they basically admitted so after the Port game and I also thought perhaps the Dogs did the same thing pre-finals which could account for their losses to Essendon, Hawks and Port. Difference is ours didn't cost us top 4 (or the minor premiership) and we also didn't get belted by inferior sides like the Dogs did against the Bombers/Hawks. Collingwood was probably our worst game of the season and even then we only lost by 3 goals (with a couple of late ones to the Pies from memory). Hopefully our new strength and conditioning coach (the guy we poached from Brisbane?) has been taking copious notes.

Remember when we peaked too early? Remember when we were May champions? Remember when we hadn't played anyone yet? Remember when we finished top and won the bloody flag???!!!!!

Our grand final posters
Anyone know where the best place is to get frames for these posters? What size frame do you need? I've got the weg posters from 1900 through to 1948 which have been sitting in storage waiting until I can put them up with pride now need to get the 55-64 ones to complete the collection and want to frame them all up on the wall in my study. I bought the block mounted Knight poster but want to frame the rest.

Jake Melksham
Hmm if he is contracted then it wouldn't surprise me to see him back next year. TMac was asked to look elsewhere last year too. He is decent depth and can help bring some of the kids through at Casey at the worst. If we're already letting go/retiring Jones, Jetta, AVB, Lockhart, Nietschke and one or two others then that is a lot of turnover without having a great draft hand or too many players earmarked to come in via trade.

PODCAST: PREMIERSHIP PODCAST LIVE Tonight (27/9) @ 8:30pm
@binman I couldn't agree with you more about how history will be written - I said it (or at least thought it) earlier in the season that if we were to go on and win the flag people would look back in hindsight and say "of course". We were far and away the best team especially after Footscray dropped to 5th after the last 3 rounds, we lost 4 games by a combined 40 points or so plus had one draw, only two of those games were to other finalists and in the end we romped it home in each of the finals (the QF less so but still an emphatic win).

Gary Ayres Player of the Finals
Who gave Caleb Daniel 3 votes, Goody or Bevo? Goody feeling a bit generous? Or Bevo taking the [censored] with favouring his own players?

Is This The Greatest Melbourne Team Ever?
Best I've ever seen - they will need to add to the tally if they want to be considered the best of all time though.

POSTGAME: GRAND FINAL vs Western Bulldogs
I think it was Norm Smith who used to say in a perfect game of footy you should be able to kick a goal every 6 seconds. Ruckman taps to rover, rover kicks to full forward, full forward goals. We may not have kicked a goal every 6 seconds on Saturday but at the end of the 3rd we gave it a bloody good shake!!

I had a cheeky tenner on Demons over 40 points at $5.50 - also had a tenner on each of Petracca, Oliver, Gawn, Viney for the Norm so my $75 return paid for the block mounted premiership poster I bought haha

Is your life complete now?
I've still got a lot of life left in me (hopefully) - there's plenty of other things I want to experience befoer I could say my life is complete (seeing my kids grow up, growing old with my wife, grandkids). In terms of AFL we still have a mountain to climb in my eyes; 16 - Essendon, Carlton 15 - Collingwood 13 - MELBOURNE, Richmond, Hawthorn Still 4 to go and hopefully at the bloody G!!

Is Gawn the best player we have ever had?
And that he did
-
Is Gawn the best player we have ever had?
Well, I still think he's not quite our best ever but I'm no longer laughing at the question and the argument is there to be made so I can't say it's not close. Won us the minor premiership with a goal after the siren down at Geelong, tore the Cats apart in the Prelim with a 4 goal burst in the 3rd, lifted the cup for the first time since Barassi in '64 and last, but certainly not least, has fostered a fantastic culture among the playing group, a group who genuinely seem to love each other, the club and the fans and who are living the "esprit de corps" motto. Mea culpa

They also refused to set up with a defensive sweeper in the middle when they were getting obliterated out of the centre. Fool me once...

Another thing to come out of the footy show is that Goodwin definitely had a speech prepared which he didn't get the opportunity to present because that absolutely moron Basil Zempilas stuffed his cue and didn't allow him to get in front of the mic! He also didn't allow Embley to name the Norm Smith medallist. What a tool.
