Peter Matera Was Almost a Demon
Lucky we didn't get him...didn't we self report salary cap breaches between 1995-98!! Matera wouldn't have come cheap!

1990 what could have been
"Despite having been given an unexpected week off by virtue of the West Coast/Collingwood draw, the Demons entered the match against the Eagles with troubles. Garry Lyon missed the match after being collected heavily by Steve O'Dwyer in a Thursday night training mishap." http://demonwiki.org/Semi+Final+1990 Oh Strawbs ?

I dared to watch the a replay of the 1987 Prelim...Jim Stynes actually gives away at 15m penalty earlier in the game, and in the Final quarter John Kennedy of the hawks is awarded a goal when the ball seems to miss/hit the post (same one Ricky Jackson hits 1 year later interestingly enough)

Top 20 Demons 1987-2020
Yep, if you watch any of the highlights of 87 onward, you really come to admire what a smart footballer Brett Lovett was. Very underrated league-wide. I think Jeff White is completely underrated as a ruckman too, in my opinion a far more complete a footballer than Gawn or Stynes. Could kick, mark, brilliant tapouts. I'd argue he's almost the best ruckman of his era.

Northey era vs Daniher era
That 1990 SF was definitely an opportunity lost, but the Eagles were also on their way up. This didn't help - according to Demon wiki: " Garry Lyon missed the match after being collected heavily by Steve O'Dwyer in a Thursday night training mishap." http://demonwiki.org/Semi+Final+1990

11 Flags for Ex-Dees
Is there some controversy about the circumstances in which we let him go (to Fitzroy initially I believe)

Memorable Kickers
I remember him kicking some absolute monster goals from the centre square. He was better from the longer distances than the shorter ones I reckon! David Schwarz was an excellent kick for goal too. Adem Yze the best user of the football that I've seen in Demon colors (never saw robbie)

Steven May - drinking session
I wouldn't begrudge anyone a beer, but sadly, Steven May comes across to me as a mug. What were the picks we gave up for May and Lever used for?

Gary Pert
Can't assess his performance for at least another 18 months.

The preseason we didn't have
Adelaide still won 12 games though, we'd kill for that this year.

Lyon: Oliver is Demons best EVER midfielder
He's doing well for a bloke who had both shoulders reconstructed in october and only started training properly in january. It's an amazing recovery really

The healthy ego of Paul Roos and our current plight.
Sigh...this article aged well: https://www.playersvoice.com.au/paul-roos-goodbye-old-melbourne/#MlWuxBhiiIpBU2wW.97 I think there are extenuating circumstances for the performances this year. We have to give it another 18 months.

When will Melbourne break these embarrassing records?
Oh yes that one permanently eats away at one's mindset.

When will Melbourne break these embarrassing records?
Well I believe this list was missing 3 items. - Win at the SCG - Beat Sydney - Beat Buddy Franklin The last of the Great Deepression Hoodoos ticked off.

Dees honesty session.
There is PLENTY to be gained by this year, even if we don't make finals, provided we re-gain fitness and competitiveness. Lever and May need game time to gel in the backline. Lever is not going to come back and dominate straight away. It's going to take him time. Getting games into Weideman who started this season with 20(!) games. A full season under his belt will do him no end of good. Hannan to come back and get more game time. Lewis to come back and marshall the troops. AVB to get more games under his belt. The improvement of Joel Smith. Same with our (many) other inexperienced players.

Omac and Frost: Premiership Kryptonite
They are #3 and #4 back line options. They did amazingly well holding it together for the back half of last year. With lever, may and Lewis in the side only 1 of the two plays. Frost has talent and athleticism. Sadly you probably canโt teach smarts (which is a problem across our whole list sadly)

Bulldogs "Thor" Guernsey
I'm going to take a contrarian view...I don't think it looks that bad...it's a nice bit of marketing... Minor league baseball, hockey, etc have been celebrating "May the 4th" (May the Force) with star wars themed entertainment and uniforms for years. I'm surprised an AFL team hasn't done this yet. It's a fun bit of side entertainment and families love it. I know that's not the level of AFL (a far bigger talent base though) in some ways, but it's a great money spinner. If the MFC got offered $500,000 to play a 1-2 home MCG games in a Spiderman styled guernsey instead of playing games in NT would you take it? http://news.sportslogos.net/2018/05/04/2018-star-wars-themed-baseball-and-hockey-uniforms/
