  1. Don't get the Prestia and Shiel love around here. Toby Greene looks a much better prospect to me. I don't know his contract situation though. Either way, I'd be going with more mature mids anyway.
  2. I'm gobsmacked that some supporters can't see that we need to go after midfielders.
  3. It's a good read, but far more applicable to the MFC. RDB and Norm Smith leaving within months in '64-'65. Cue the premiership drought. The image described by Murphy of long-scarred fans embracing in momentous joy upon their great victory, has often crossed my mind. It is this concept which we pin our hopes on. I'm not a religious man, nor am I particularly spiritual, but my unconditional support for the MFC is purely faith based. We all have to believe somewhere in ourselves that the so called "curse" will be broken.
  4. Lol. The old sweetners in Bail, McKenzie and Strauss.
  5. I'd go Ratten. Wouldn't be disappointed with Black, Ling or Jnr, but at least I know Ratten can coach.
  6. He's a horrible writer and probably just had a read over Demonland yesterday. Anyway, it is just a regurgitation of what many have been saying - if we don't get a PP, no club ever will again. I think it was Redleg that was quoted. But ultimately, I concur. And yes, I believe we will qualify for a PP.
  7. The Essendon defeat was boring, perhaps because I'm generally so numb toward our ineptness these days. But yes, I'd prefer to restrict teams to 60 or 70 points, I couldn't care less if it was twenty points each, as long as we're winning games of footy. I can't get past the fact that there are some MFC supporters that would prefer this mess continues, as apposed to playing "boring", but defensively minded football. Ironically, this was the reason Neeld was brought in. He has failed. Roos is a no brainer.
  8. She's still an incredibly biased journalist. She won't touch the Dustin Martin issue and pretty much anything Richmond related, unless it's positive. The only thing she got right was Schwab, which was driven by her agenda against him. For the Chief Football Writer at The Age, she's sensationalist and her continued biases lend her absolutely no credibility whatsoever. She always seems to have an agenda.
  9. Agreed. That structure makes him appear a little redundant. If we're talking of costing cutting too, I'd be looking at cutting Todd or shifting him into the coaching side of the FD (if his being there is still not too much of a conflict of interest).
  10. Someone has to front up to a media conference though. I'm glad it was a clearly hurting Col Garland, rather than Neeld with his nonsense. That's what I liked about it. My love for Col Garland increases. Already one of my favourites, but he was vulnerable in this interview. Truly hurting. I want to see that from our players. It's better than a lack of care or patronising crap that we'd been fed too often over the past few seasons. Ultimately, I thought Col put in yesterday and had more of an impact than Nathan Jones (who I'm not knocking, just pointing out that Jones is never questioned and neither should Col's attitude).
  11. Here are a few name's off the top of my head to Bailey's credit (though I agree with the decisions): Yze, White, Robbo, Whelan, Wheatley. Bailey and Neeld have taken hardline approaches to senior players thought to be past it. EDIT. Been answered a few times actually.
  12. I don't get that feeling at all. I'm not for sacking the entire board. I don't know enough about their internal workings, but I'm not of the opinion that simply sacking Neeld and relieving McLardy of the presidency will bring about onfield improvement. If anything that's simply a short term fix that will keep the merry-go-round spinning. It's far deeper than two. It's up to Jackson to identify the weak links. Restructure the football department and administration. Neeld will be gone come season's end. His position is now so ridiculously untenable and while I'd argue it'd be best to show him the door right now, either way I agree in a sense. That is one tick on a long list. There are a multitude of areas that require TLC: * Instilling a compotent board, with a mixture of experience and youth, probably okayed by Jackson and therefore the AFL. * A restructured footy department, which will require a bunch of redundancies and new jobs up for the taking, one of the major vacancies will obviously be the senior coaching position. * It's clear McLardy is out of his depth and frankly, I don't believe he's ever wanted the Presidency (hence Jimmy in the first place). So he'll be replaced, once again, with a person who's AFL and Jackson endorsed. * Finally and probably most importantly, Jackson has identified it's about bringing in people from OUTSIDE of the club. Experienced people, who have been part of successful footballing environments, the likes of GFC, CFC and HFC. Something Jackson has that Neeld (and McLardy - talk about the upper echelons having a flow on effect to the rest of an organisation) doesn't is his empathy and respect for what we as a supporter base and club have been through. Reading the transcript from his address yesterday supported the measured, but earnest way he spoke on the radio. I hope the feeling of optimism I have for his appointment and seeming abilities are rightfully placed. We shall soon find out.
  13. Jackson answered this yesterday, when asked by Triple M. He said that having visited Man Utd's set up in Manchester, there's a larger literal disconnect between their FD equivalent and administration. The implication was obvious. They don't seem to have unity issues, so that's not the problem. It's a 6 to 7 minute walk over the footbridge.
  14. As a coach myself, you only have to attend one clinic of 50+ kids to see that future support is dwindling. There'd be 3 or 4 MFC jumpers tops out of 50 or 60 kids at those things. Success will bring new supporters, but it has to be the ultimate success. We don't look like achieving that this decade.
  15. Exactly. Having everyone report to you means having copious meetings per week.
  16. Actually, in the majority of quarters this year, this team has played remarkably similar to the one that took the field in Geelong for 186. They've jogged around and shown little care or pride in the jumper or supporters that bother to turn up to support them.
  17. Horrible, horrible suggestion.
  18. I have absolutely no faith in the board that they'll be able to select his predecessor correctly either. Just don't let f'ing Lyon near it. The one thing I will say is that Jackson, on Triple M before the game, was eminently impressive.
  19. This is my biggest issue too. AFL assistance is the only way I reckon. I can't see our supporters digging deep again. They've already erased $5mill, for it to be [censored] away.
  20. We were also uncompetitive in every important stat. It's not just that was lost by as good as ten goals, it's how we lost.
  21. Oh and I was there for 186 and I was there 146. That first quarter today was hands down the worst quarter of football I have ever witnessed. It didn't get any better either.
  22. Howe was lazy. He always is when he plays forward. His kicking has returned to its old ways. Horrible. Viney, Matt Jones and Garland should get games next week. There are a number I wouldn't bother with in an ideal world.
