  1. Hyperbole or near-sightedness? Every player has flaws. I think Scully set training and preparation standards, in a similar way that Grimes and Trengove did. He's a little [censored], but I don't think anyone has ever accused Scully of not being professional. He is an ordinary footballer though. However, under a good coach, he could become a solid contributor. But, as everyone has said, you don't pay a bloke $6 mill for that. On the flip side though, they had to pay someone and at the time, he was a highly touted former number one draft pick. His signing was considered a coup. How lovely it is that he's turned out to be a vanilla footballer. The culture and coaching up there hasn't helped though. But schadenfreude, indeed. I think the other issue for GWS is that there's no soul at that football club. It was just created out of nowhere. It'd be easier to talk even the most loyal blokes into leaving, because there's no tradition or history to honour. I don't know about that.
  2. That can change very quickly with injury though. We still lack a little bit of KPP depth. I think Howe has the attributes to be more damaging as a third up defender. See the Richmond game. That's his go. Everyone uses the word 'elite' a lot, but Howe could be AA material as a backman. As a forward, he has the talent to be flashy and hit the scoreboard, but his aerial prowess suggests he could become a real weapon that could affect the scoreboard defensively. Thus, IMO, he'll be best utilised in defence.
  3. The articles talks of his re-signing in 2013 as a big win for GCS and that it runs deeper than merely his signature. A number of others signed on afterwards. Yeah, okay, but it doesn't mean he'll stay past this contract. The article reads like he'd be open to offers if the club offering was challenging or finals bound. The MFC was a train wreck last season and he re-signed before Roos was announced as the new coach. If he was coming out of contract this year, we'd be in with a great shot. He's not out of reach, IMO. I thought he was, but having read that article, his attitude comes across as almost 'I may as well stay here', rather than 'I love playing with this group' or what have you. I'd get in his ear at the end of this year and aim to try and lure him at the end of 2015. We can dream.
  4. You never stop needing talent. That's where Geelong and Hawthorn have been so brilliant over the last decade. They keep topping up their talent and across all age brackets - they've balanced their lists really well. I concur though that for us, it'd be best to look for developed talent, with two to three years development under their belts. One of the aforementioned two would be an outstanding acquisition, but I think we need to keep topping up with mids with later picks too. I'd also target another big bloke, a KPP, with a third or fourth rounder, ala Tommy Mac.
  5. You say you wouldn't give up that much for him and then proffer pick 6 and a 3rd rounder. Horrible deal, IMO. I wouldn't go for him, but if we did, there's no way we'd give up a first rounder for him, particularly a top 10 pick.
  6. I can see Wingard kicking a large bag. He's unstoppable at the moment.
  7. Dangerfield is a gun. Obviously. We won't go this path though. It's not Roos' style. As people keep saying, we'll target gettable youngsters, with a few years under their belt. EDIT. And Crawford's a [censored]. He's got absolutely no idea.
  8. Felt he was playing for himself today. Got a lot of the ball, but chipped sideways a lot of the time and then waited around for a fair bit of easy ball. I like him though. If Roos and co deem him the one to target, I'll be happy. Would prefer Treloar though, I think.
  9. It's built on success. Stuff social clubs. Hawthorn were rubbish for years and then became a power side during the 80s. That's where their supporters have come from. They were never traditionally a 'big' club, but they've made some great moves since '96. The lucky factor for them was that they'd had great success in the recent past and thus had supporters to tap into when memberships became an integral part of the AFL business.
  10. Mission was signed before Neeld signed...
  11. Sounds good, except I think we'll save 26ish for Stretch.
  12. IMO: 1. He needs to be consistent. One game does not a player make. 2. If they lose the captaincy they do. 3. Naturally, but he hasn't played a game yet, so some of the hope should be tempered. 4. Let's hope so. He doesn't done it yet though. Fair enough.
  13. I have slow posting using a Google Chrome on a Mac, but I suspect that is my rubbish connection. I should really get a signal booster one of these days.
  14. Horrible deal for GWS, but we'd be laughing. I kind of want to fast forward to this off season, just to see who we pick up and then rewind to the present, to enjoy the rest of what should be a fascinating second half of the season.
  15. I wouldn't be surprised if the successor is a smoke screen for Roos to simply keep on, keeping on.
  16. There's a couple of things to love about this. We'll have quite a few left footers in the midfield in three years time. Tyson, Viney, Salem and maybe Lovett. Loves it.
  17. I wouldn't change anything, except the forced change. Frawley in for Dawes. The rest of the team should remain the same.
  18. He's not great, but he's not the worst commentator, McGuire. As long as he's not commentating on a Collingwood match. Great pick up that from Jonesy. Pretty much sealed the game for us that play. He's the sort of player that welcomes a challenge and never drops his head, and with greater responsibility, he thrives. Really impressed with his year so far. I felt last year was his first great season. He's backing it up again.
  19. I love you. Definitely one of my favourite posters. : D
  20. I can't think of a better mentor for Jordie than Cross. I hope Jordie makes it, but his time is certainly running out.
  21. I reckon that team has a couple of questions marks over it. 1) Jetta might make it. His Adelaide game was excellent. But he must show some consistency for the remainder of the season. 2) I'm not sold on Grimes at all. If his disposal and decision making doesn't improve, he won't be best 22 for mine. 3) Whilst I hope he'll be a star, Hogan hasn't played a game yet. But obviously, I hope we can answer that question before the end of this season. 4) Trengove will be very fringe unless he can recapture some of the form he showed at the start of his career. I'm hopeful he will be able to do this under Roos, but we'll have to wait and see. The rest of the team is looking solid. They'll only get stronger, providing they continue to play their roles and therefore play more footy together. For 2014, I'm pretty happy with the strides we've made. Another draft where we target another mid (with two/three years under their belt - think Treloar, Shiel, Prestia etc), pick up a KPF and another experienced B grade mid (ala Vince) and we can start to aim for the fringe of the top 8.
  22. I concur on Treloar. He was a little outside in previous years, but he seems to have developed inside game more. Would offer our first rounder for him in a heartbeat. Well, I'd agree, except Taylor Adams made demands without showing even half of what Treloar has. I agree with everything else though. Spot on. This off season is the time. It's fortunate that we're just starting to show an upward trajectory. It seems to be coinciding with the down turn of a few lists. I reckon we're a shot if we keep improving this season.
  23. Would still prefer Roosy to continue as coach, but I'll settle for this excellent news to start with.
  24. Boyd's a KPF that can ruck. So yeah. I would have been very happy drafting him.
  25. Thanks for all that, Robbie. What a great effort. Another $600k. Great stuff. Well done, FH. Further, if Frawley wants to take Wingard, who the hell is going to play forward? Only Pederson and Gawn? I would suggest Chip won't get that option.
