  1. I just don't see it. He turns the ball over or makes critical errors in clutch situations. When Adelaide kicked their last (lr was it second last goal), they won the centre clearance and Grimes drops an uncontested chest mark 20m out directly in front. He certainly read the ball well early (this is definitely his strength) and managed to intercept or spoil well, but whenever he has the ball in his hands, he rarely hits targets or makes the right decisions.
  2. Except tough and imposes himself on the contest. Yze was a front runner, with beautiful skills. He'd never stand up when the going got tough. It's early, but I get the impression from Salem that he doesn't take a backward step.
  3. I think he's put Frawley forward to give us a second tall target. Frawley is quick too, which makes him even more dangerous in the forward half. Equally, I think it allows Roos to shape a defensive unit around a group that he knows will stick around. That said, I think Frawley will stay.
  4. What an absolutely terrific effort. Well done, fellas. Dawes was massive. Tyson and Viney were 'super important'. Jetta killed Betts. Vince was solid and JKH really showed he's up to speed with the game now. Oh and our young fella, Salem still looks the goods. EDIT. Credit should go to Jamar too. I thought his career was over. Perhaps, I was wrong?
  5. Howe is probably our second dumbest footballer. What was that rubbish kick up in the air?
  6. Fantastic first half. Ordinary since. Dean Terlich has not made a right decision today. He consistently makes the wrong decision and fails to execute by foot.
  7. My biggest fear is that given the game will likely be played almost entirely through the corridor, our poor disposal will signal route one to goal for the opposition. Let's hope we can find some consistency and hit some targets tomorrow. What we must do is back ourselves on the counter.
  8. Spot on, CB. You can just see his confidence there. I can't remember him having that, but it shows he had it once upon a time. The handball one-twos, really great stuff. I reckon it'd be worth showing Jack some of that.
  9. I can. I reckon his signing was a symbol, more than anything. It showed that GWS could get anyone they wanted, even if he was a highly valued number one draft pick. You've got to remember that the truth was rather different - no one wanted to go to GWS. And that first video above, the one against Freo. Wow. We moved the ball beautifully from half back. I wish we'd simply readjusted our defensive structures under a new coach, rather than throwing the baby out with the bath water and removed the attacking flair. Ah well.
  10. They'll play a high risk game through the corridor. I don't think we'll have a high enough disposal efficiency to hurt them on the rebound, but they'll certainly give us a chance to hit them on the counter with their game style. You're right though, D. It'll be a really good test of our defensive capabilities. Our concentration is going to have to be high and we'll have to bring a work rate that we haven't seen from our side yet. We do this and we're a real chance. I can't see us getting enough goal kickers though. We need to start getting more goals out of our midfield. Dawes is not a bloke that is going to kick you regular bags of goals.
  11. Agreed. What I also noticed was that he runs to the right places. Some players just have that magnetism. They attract the footy. I think Salem will be one of these players.
  12. As some people have noted, it remains essentially the one good decision Neeld made during his tenure. One dimensional bully boy.
  13. Well, that's a load of rubbish. MFC supporters can still question the decisions of the FD. Jesus, they've got every right, especially considering the last decade.
  14. Whilst it's good to see some progress and I agree, there has been, we haven't really played any of the power teams yet. Wait until we've played, Port, Hawthorn, Geelong and even Collingwood before we talk percentage. It could take a walloping in those games.
  15. I just haven't seen his explosiveness in a chase down. Obviously, he had that great chase down on Cripps against Carlton, but that's because Cripps was adjusting to the pace of his first game.
  16. I wouldn't consider myself a Watts apologist. On Game Day, his seeming lack of desire (translation=laconic style) is infuriating, but once the game is over, I can see that clearly Watts needs a different style of man-management. We've seen he doesn't respond to being dropped to the 2's. If we want to get anything out of him, we have to keep pursuing him as an AFL player - that is to say, continued game time at AFL intensity. Roos will keep playing him for the near future. See, I don't rate JKH's speed at all. I think it's his biggest weakness to this stage. I hope he has the footy smarts to combat this.
  17. Because the intimation was that women are weak. I don't think this is Ben Hur's new screen identity, unless he's thicker than I remember him being.
  18. That's why I asked about Patton's contractual status. GWS won't trade him. We'd need to lure Patton back to Melbourne with money and 'a return home', but only once his contract is up.
  19. Certainly, if we lose him, it'll be a massive blow.
  20. This is exactly the thing though. Everyone responds differently. That's why successful coaches are malleable and have an ability to adapt and identify the different modes of communication that will effect change with each individual player. It's about having a highly developed emotional intelligence on the part of the coach and employing smart strategising. I've also simplified it there, but it's far more complex than just one attitude towards a sport.
  21. Whilst you're right to an extent, RN, I think perhaps Watts' disposal efficiency in the past has wallpapered the other flaws in his game.
