Fix the Midfield and we'll rise very quickly!

Still agree with Paul's OP. Fix that midfield, FCS. -

We need to set up in a way that either makes neutralising the opposition stoppages easier or our midfielders need to anticipate the opposition ruckman in a better way. The amount of times oppositions used to read taps of Jeff White and yet our mids have never been able to do this. -

And in some ways, it's been great to test ourselves against the top teams early on this year, rather than have a draw that is divided by a soft start and a tough run home. We haven't had a run of cheapies. I'm really hoping we can win 8 games this year. I'd be pretty happy with our progress. We could also point to this as evidence of improvement to lure prospective young mids. If we managed this, we'll have improved our depth significantly and we can push for finals next year. Or at least the cusp of finals. -
Now, would you give Tommy Mac an 8 year deal as well? I'd certainly consider it. With the advent of free agency, list management is coming into a new age. I wonder how certain clubs will deal with it.

Neither.

10 for $10 mill.
-
Completely agree, mate. He's one you can build a dynasty around. With the way the salary cap is inflating each year, a mill a season for ten years probably wouldn't be a massive dint in the cap. You could also front load some of that now to ensure we can keep others down the track.
-
He also doesn't try to kick the cover off it, which is nice to see.
-
He reminds me very much of a younger Paul Chapman. His tackling gives me goosebumps. It's been a long time since a demon has tackled like him. He's pretty measured with his aggression too.
-
There's no chance we take McCartin even if he's available. We'll be taking two midfielders and if we only take one and then say Wright, that'll mean Taylor and co don't think much of the rest of the midfield talent in this draft. Roos has signposted all year that we'll be taking mids, mids, mids.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRISTIAN PETRACCA

Well, given we've barely touched our midfield this off season, after saying everyone's tradeable, you'd bloody hope we'd look to invest in our C grade (B grade if I'm being extremely kind) midfield. -
Agree, but equally, it doesn't mean he's not worth a 3rd or 4th rounder. Not saying we'll take him though.

I found the first half of the film predictable, but the final act was gripping and head ache-inducing. Bond girl Rosamund Pike is amazing. Fincher's direction is amazing, as is the cinematography. Reznor's score is wonderful too. A very solid watch.
-
That makes absolutely no sense. Midfielders. We need midfielders. Don't get me wrong, I'd love Cameron, but midfield is priority one.
-
Is that sarcasm, jazza?
-
Also, LOL if he landed at Sydney. Eddie would have a meltdown.
-
Interesting development, if true. I'd prefer we took a younger bloke like Shiel before a bloke like Beams.

Not sure if anyone's seen it, but the show that inspired me to become a filmmaker is returning in 2016, Twin Peaks. So excited. Not a film, but a DVD boxset.

Melbourne considering shifting its base to MCG

If you mean the line "The Demons are set to announce a small profit this year, thanks in part to the signing of new sponsors", I think it is referencing signings such as AHG and Southern China Airlines. Could be wrong though. I heard a couple of weeks ago that we were going to post a modest profit and none of that came from AFL handouts. -
Not necessarily. We courted Lyons last year as well. It's only natural we'd caught him again as his situation hasn't really changed much and neither has ours. We still need more mids.
-
It makes a little bit of sense. We need another ruckman, but also a KPF that can ruck. That'll leave Dawes and Hogan to play true KPF.
-
Interesting point, Mike. We know Dawes certainly won't be playing ruck. If we got Wright, that'd free up Hogan. Still, that midfield. We must strengthen the midfield. Early picks are the key to solve that problem.
-
Are you angling at wanting the MFC to take Duggan for our half back line, spirit? Hypothetically, let's say Roos and co rate the top 10 relatively evenly, we may try to trade one of our top picks for a player and a mid first rounder (ala the Tyson/Salem deal). It is entirely feasible that this could happen and we do require damaging foot skills...
-
I think we'll only go to the draft if we can't find a suitable trade for our first and/or second pick. Obviously, we'll draft after the first round, but I can see him trading picks all over the place for recycled players. It's what I'd do and given his history, that's what I expect he'll do if the players are out there.

I think Treloar would offer our midfield an element we certainly lack and that's pace. But I'd take both too. :D
