i was thinking the same thing.. we might get pick 98 for PJ, Newton and Miller? i think sylvia was mentioned just because he has shown some form and has some value now.. doesnt mean we are looking to trade.. but if a massive deal was offered they might consider! i thought Jurrah would be in the 'untouchable' list! interesting they added Bell in the 'going going gone' list.. he is contracted for another year though isnt he? i doubt they would buy out the contract?
-
he really didnt give much away as far as pick 2.. i actually got the impression from his interview that they definitely arent leaning towards Butcher!
-
Jurrah!! ..but Bennell will be a gun! Jetta showed some good signs.. and of course Watts didnt get much chance and needs to put on a few more pounds!
-
more details please!!!
-
the next best means we would go for another midfielder (trengove).. if the midfielder is rated the next best thing in the draft! instead of filling a need such as our forward line, ruck, etc (like Butcher, vardy) if the best available in these categories isnt rated as highly as the mid (trengove)
-
easy win by you.. tigers have been trying to win the end of this season and are still crap.. we could have won a lot more games if it wasnt for our tanking/injuries.. when we get our players back and picks 1 & 2 next year.. top 8 here we come!!! (ok maybe not top 8.. but higher then tiges thats for sure!!)
-
Go Saints!! ..them or the dogs!
-
im in.. i am "The Cooks"
-
right you are.. i did some 'google-ing' and apparently SEN got the names messed up when they first announced the rumour ..but they cleared it up later (probably when i turned off)
-
blease really needs to put on some more weight!! he will get killed out there
-
MAD JACK DAW!! Lets get him!!
-
on SEN they said that Rance from tiges is keen to move back to his home state of Brisbane!
-
spot on! i like the idea of Butcher because there arent many tall forwards available these days.. but it is still a risk.. ..Trengove is virtually a sure thing and i dont want to waste a season of tanking for someone who turns out 'average'
-
 i was just thinking the same thing.. good lord!!
-
with Strauss, Blease and Watts ..and after we get scully.. the dees will pretty much be Vic Metro

We can finally have closure on not getting Naitanui
cooko replied to sylvinator's topic in Melbourne Demons
is that right? because the year before (2006) we won 13 games.. and then the year after (2007) we won 5 (because we beat carltank).. wouldnt that mean we werent eligible for the priority pick and Kreuzer? I thought it was 2 years in a row you have to win no more then 4? or was the rule different then? -
i won the final in my league for supercoach today by 9 points!! Hooha!!

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tab...15/default.aspx MELBOURNE coach Dean Bailey has hinted strongly that the club would select outstanding young Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Tom Scully with one of its first two picks in November's NAB AFL Draft. The Demons have now secured the No.1 and No.2 picks in the meeting, after finishing bottom on the ladder and claiming fewer than 16 points on the ladder in the past two seasons. Speaking at his final post-match media conference for 2009, following St Kilda's 47-point win over Melbourne, Bailey said with a smile that one of the two picks would definitely be a midfielder. "I think one of them will certainly be a small – a midfielder," he said. As for whether both picks would be used on midfielders, Bailey said: "It's a long way, away and we'll have to grin and bear it." "I would've thought a good midfielder will help us." Other players likely to be in the mix for Melbourne, with pick two, include South Australian Jack Trengove, Western Australian Anthony Morabito and Victorian John Butcher. Although the losing margin wasn't flattering, it wasn't a true indication of Melbourne's solid effort against the minor premiers. Melbourne trailed by just 16 points at the 20-minute mark of the final term, before St Kilda slammed on five in a row. Bailey was pleased his charges took it right up to the Saints for much of the match. "Some of our players showed in the first half … almost three [quarters] I reckon that we can match it with the best team in the competition," he said. "I thought we moved the ball reasonably well with some crisp handball." Bailey paid tribute to three departing Demons – Russell Robertson, Paul Wheatley and Matthew Whelan. "Russell, Paul and Wheels have been great servants of the Melbourne footy club. They've been outstanding and they are great people once you get to know them – they're terrific blokes," he said. "It was nice to see Paul Wheatley kick a goal and it was great to see Robbo kick a goal … luckily [brock] McLean handballed it too him, which was a good decision by Brock to handball it to him. He worked pretty hard Robbo. "It would've been nice for Wheels to have a shot at goal – he was fairly keen to … but for all three to get through the game and contribute at different stages is important as well, in their last game for Melbourne." Despite claiming successive wooden spoons, Bailey is excited about the developing youngsters and the off-field situation of the club. "We ticked over 31,000 members and we've finished last the last two years – I think that is an exceptional opportunity," he said. "If we get all 31,500 or 32,000 thousand at the MCG, I'd spend a week or two to thank every one of them – they've just been unbelievable for us. "It's been an incredible show of faith in the football club – in everyone who is involved in it – and that's a great platform to build from as well, so there are exciting times ahead." As for a possible contract extension post-2010, Bailey said with a smile: "The longer the better, that'd be fantastic."

i really like sandilands.. but i agree with demon disciple.. why waste the pick on an older player when we are building such a young team!!
-
i am not a fan of morabito at all.. i almost wish freo had pick 2 and we had 3 to insure we get trengove.. if we tanked that whole time to waste it on morabito ill be pretty [censored] off.. i am sure he will be good.. but id much prefer trengove or the butch

no stupid trades please! keep pick 1 and 2.. the rest of the picks shop around if there is something good.. otherwise stay with youth!

http://www.melbournefc.com.au/tabid/7415/d...px?newsid=83568 MELBOURNE has not ruled out featuring in trade week despite plans to make up to six selections in this year's NAB AFL Draft. List manager Tim Harrington said the Demons would keep their options open when considering whether to recruit a player from another club or preserve a draft order that will start with the prized pick No.1. "I'm always open-minded about the trade period, because you have to strengthen your club's future. So that means that you have to be willing to trade or at least be open-minded about how you strengthen your club for the future," he told melbournefc.com.au. "That's part of the role as list manager. There is much less involvement in the day-to-day [activities of the football department], but with an eye on what the list is going to look like in two years, three years and five years. "Having said that, the role of the list manager is to also balance the needs of recruiting, coaching and club to make sure everyone is aligned in ticking the same things." However, Harrington reiterated that adding more young players to a squad loaded with 2007 and 2008 draftees was the priority. "The draft is certainly the main focus, when we've got prime positioning with our picks. You've got to make sure you get those picks right," he said. "We've had a couple of blokes who have announced their retirements (Paul Wheatley, Matthew Whelan and Russell Robertson), which makes the list look younger again, but we'll go to the draft table and take young talented blokes again. "We'll be younger again next year, so we've got to balance out against getting younger and getting even more inexperienced next year. But what we’re aiming for is development on the field." At the 2007 NAB AFL Draft, Melbourne selected Cale Morton (4), Jack Grimes (14), Addam Maric (21), Kyle Cheney (53) and Tom McNamara (66). Jack Watts (No.1), Sam Blease (17), James Strauss (19), Jamie Bennell (35), Neville Jetta (51) and Rohan Bail (64) were taken from last year's pool. NAB AFL Pre-Season Draft selections Stefan Martin (2008) and Liam Jurrah (2009) and Austin Wonaeamirri, Jake Spencer, Shane Valenti and Jordie McKenzie, who have either graduated from or remain on the club's rookie list, form the rest of Melbourne's emerging group.

thanks for the comments guys!! i think there is a very good chance we could pick him up.. hopefully Ah Chee slides to our 3rd round pick too (we can dream) ..having said that.. i am not certain the dees will pick Jetta for the simple fact that we dont overly need him! we already have a fair few small flashy players (infact that is probably the one thing we actually have a bit of now).. and there are so many other positions that still need to be filled! We already have Davey, Jurrah, Wonna and even Jetta (neville) is starting to show great signs.. to contradict myself again.. i think you can never have too many flashy players in a team..makes for better viewing! thanks! ..yeah i didnt know too much about Talia but i think he has a lot of potential from the limited youtube clips i have seen.. he looks fairly tall for his age and he still has a bit of speed on him.. and what looks to be an impressive handball! but as you said.. i think this trade week will be VERY interested (unlike last year).. hopefully the dees can work some magic and get a few more picks! oh yeh.. i forgot about that i think there are a few reasons the tiges would pick Butcher if we dont! he is still regarded as the best tall forward in the draft, he has still been kicking a fair few goals recently and it was well known he was injured during the U18 champs! Also.. i really dont think the tiges will pick another midfielder over Butcher when they already have Deledio, Cotchin, Tamblings, Tuck.. and as i said above.. can you imagine if Butcher becomes a star like Buddy/Roughy and they pass on another star forward.. their fans will go nuts!! I dont think we have as much pressure as they do because we have Watts waiting.. and we didnt make the mistakes they did with Buddy/Roughy you could be right about carlton.. and i think a lot could sway their pick depending on the possible Yarran to West Coast for their 1st pick rumour. If they hold onto him.. i am not too sure they really need Jetta.. they have Betts and Yarran which could fill a similar role! I think they will want someone like Carlisle who has the potential to become a key forward and can help Fev.. which he really does need! then again you have a really good point that Yarran and Jetta could work well together.. interesting times ahead! also.. you think Tapscott could slide?? i cant see Port and Adelaide picking a Victorian boy over Tapscott.. or Panos over him as Tapscott is more versatile! ..not to mention all of the other clubs would probably jump on him at the end of the 1st round.. i really hope your right they and we get him in an absolute steal!!
