  1. I like Melbournefc. It gives the club a more traditional feel imo, and mimicks "FC" that's used by soccer teams. I don't think mascot's are as influential as much as they used to be. They could drop the demon tag altogether and I wouldn't care. As long as we're "Melbourne" and navy blue and red, I don't care.
  2. I'm disappointed that Carlton got rid of Pagan. Personally, I think he was practically told to tank and refused too.
  3. One of my most memorable Melbourne matches. Up there with the final win against Carlton in the first round of the finals in 94 and that win against the Eagles at Subi in 98 (which I was at. Arrived at quarter time). As for Green in the forward line, too late. He isn't developed as a FF, like he should have been under Daniher. Too bad Danners was a sap and was too dumb to realise the kid had the best kick in the league. As for Bruce, he sprays too many kicks to have to rely on in the forward line. His set-shot is shocking. He needs to be in and around packs and an extra man across the half-back line. Keep him as far away from the forward line as possible.
  4. Is Walker a Melbourne man?
  5. Won't happen. Although, with this current AFL administration, anything is possible.
  6. In my opinion, being able to criticize and want perfection is better then having "faith" and never complaining about things that go astray, especially when $400+ of my money goes to support the club. I cry a river because I invest in this "business" (and it is a business) and I expect professionalism and success. I despise everything this club has done in the 18 or so years I've supported it. Yet, I still pay my membership, I still attend every game in Melbourne (and the occassional interstate match if my work trips overlap an interstate match) and I still believe, albeit with a strong sense of negetivity, that I will see a premiership before I die (and I'm 21, for anyone who is curious). Whether I'm in a majority or minority (people who pay up although they are fed up) I don't know, but understand this; we live in a different world then what we once did. Football is no longer just football. It's a business, and people subconciously, although probably unintentionally, look at it as an investment. When they see their investment fail (and, with current player problems, which could classify the failure as perhaps purposely portrayed) they see no reason to renew themselves as members. Before this club and its small group of die-hards cry a river themselves and say how they need everyone behind them, maybe they should take their fingers out of the back-side and achieve something for once. And I don't mean "being in the running" for a top calibre player. I mean winning something, and justifying my hard-earned money. I might be discrediting everything that footy is about, and that's passion, faith and support, but that's the hard truth. Clubs are coming undone now by a new generation that has a different perception, and mediocrity will no longer be saved by faith and support. Instead, it will be dealt a blow by logic and anger; it's logical to no longer invest in a company that has no obvious signs of wanting success, and anger through wasting effort, money and emotions. That's the way it is Jaded. I'll still be here, and so will you, but you need to consider the evolution of society and the way people think. This business has achieved nothing. And it never will until it focuses and puts its foot down on what it wants to achieve. And don't say it has, because if so, it would have achieved that goal over 2002-2006 when it had just as much a chance as the team that did win it. -end rant.
  7. I'll say it before some other delusional and naive person comes in and says it: HAVE FAITH! That's just so no one else has to say it. Here's what I have to say: I hope you're wrong, but I agree with you. Terrible year a head.
  8. I don't know where you buy your Versace polo shirts from, but they cost considerably more then $80...
  9. I'm not writing him off. Do you read my posts? Just curious.
  10. But what did he do besides be a great player? What did he achieve? You're missing my point. I am not discrediting his ability or how great he was. Instead, I'm saying that there are at least 50 players that are more deserving then him. Being a great player on a poor team is not, in every sport, something to write home about.
  11. I'm 21. They are grown men. They have a responsibility, and that's to be the face of an organisation that is struggling to develop a strong eye in the public. If they were determined enough for success, the curfew wouldn't be needed. Granted, successful clubs in the past have needed it, but we're in a different position. We are struggling, and this curfew shows that obviously plays weren't focused enough on their responsibilities
  12. You're all bias. Had a player of Flower's calibre from another team that sucked majorly over the same period was included, you'd all be throwing sticks and burning stacks outside Sheahans house. I'm saying, you can be good, but the reason the man is barely brought up in UN-BIAS conversation of the best ever players is because he played on a terrible team and couldn't lead them to success. It's the same in every sport. Sheahans list is consistent and accurate, and he didn't let his support of Melbourne get the best of him like most of you. It has nothing to do with me not seeing him grow up, but me knowing he didn't achieve anything outside of the club while he played. And YES that does have influence. PS. Just quietly, who likes my new icon?
  13. Flower was good, but look at what he did. Nothing. Don't flame, but you have to consider that the man didn't win a premiership in his time at Melbourne. He was a part of one of the worst era's by any team in the history of aussie rules. I thought it was lucky he was included as the ones who just missed out. I mean, didn't win a brownlow, premiership or anything else outside of Melbourne.
  14. Yet another player who has struggled to live up to expectations at Melbourne. Granted, he has had a lot of injuries, but if he doesn't perform this year he should be traded at the end of the year. I hate hacks, and he is slowly becoming one, like Johnstone was, like Green is and like Bruce is becoming. *waits to get flamed*
  15. Optimistic view. I disagree. We will fulfil everyone's expectations this year and finish in the bottom 5.
  16. Port Adelaide Geelong Brisbane Collingwood West Coast Hawthorn Sydney St. Kilda Adelaide Western Bulldogs Fremantle Kangaroos Essendon Carlton Melbourne Richmond Brisbane will challenge this year.
  17. I cannot believe grown men need a curfew. It doesn't wreak of professionalism, it wreaks of immaturity.
  18. They'll be nothing again this year. Judd is overrated....
  19. We won't win, but it will be another chance for our youngsters to get experience. I mean, who really cares (or wants) their team to win practice matches? (or the NAB Cup for that matter)?
  20. Jones McLean Bate Frawley Newton Morton Dunn Petterd Rivers Davey
