31k at the MCG today. Of which 28k were Pies supporters. How big a hit has this season had on us? We lost the Pies home game and every big crowd was an away game. Bet your [censored] Jag will jump ship. Zurich must be counting the days. Today was absolutely horrible and I can't wait for this chlaymdyia of a year to end.

fmd what did he say? I'm sick of people on here and on Facebook posting [censored] without context.
-
Grundy has absolutely annihilated Gawn.
-
lol may.
-
I laughed, and then cried.
-
can we talk about the crowd? even Collingwood supporters haven't turned up. 35k imo.
-
Collingwood supporters standing near me love fritsch. they cant work out why we hit the flank every tine we go mark across half forward. we wait for them to flood. this season is a carbon copy of 2003.

7 unanswered.

On the plus side Omac actually looked decent up forward...in the first quarter.

Coach killing.
-
lol at everyone bagging Lever. like always it's pathetic turnovers up the ground that kill us.
-
beat us on the inside and BAM.
-
This is both the best and worst Melbourne game I've watched all season.

Maybe it's just me but I have a good feeling about tomorrow. We are badly due and tbh Pies are in a good spot to spank given their injuries. It would be nice to end the year with at least one win against a big club. Just getting this sense we will win comfortably.
-
I'm no fan of Goodwin but what do people want him to say, really? I stopped listening to coach and player press conferences years ago. They are just bait shops for journos to get a hyperbolic headline from. He could talk about a good receipe for muffins and I wouldn't give a [censored]. I judge him on game day.

It is bizarre, isn't it? If we have a similarly disappointing year in 2020, we're looking at another 3-4 years down the bottom as we rebuild our list again. Next year is either we sharply improve and content, or we stay where we are. IMO there is no in between that will occur.

A modern day Tingay, Jimbo, albeit one that arrived at the club much older. We are a much better team with him playing but that's the problem: he doesn't play enough. Different player to Tingay obviously but similar in that he is a required player that just can't get on the park. Hopefully we can get a solid 2-3 years out of him where he is consistently in the 22.

It was closer to 3k-4k poita. At least 30k Toiges fans there.
-
Yes I did add to my comment to address this (mostly). Jones and Garlett are not huge losses imo. Lewis and Jetta moreso than anyone. I would keep Lewis for another year and start getting Jetta into a coaching role.
-
Why? We had the most number of players in this team last year if I remember correctly. Most would be +22 now. Ideally most premiership teams have a core of 26-28 year olds in their prime. We are knocking on the door. This is why Goodwin and co absolutely need to fill the gaps because we need to get as much finals experience into this core group as possible. Otherwise we'll just end up with a team of Nathan Jones'. Quick rise back up. 2019 was a failure. Fail quickly. Mini rebuild this offseason built around our core group of Oliver, Brayshaw, Tmac, Fritsch, Trac, Gawn, Lever, Salem, May. Move on Jones. Keep Lewis for another year. Move Jetta into a player-coaching role. Trade Hibberd and get some more class in our defensive 6. Make a decision on AVB. Either get him playing senior footy or get rid of him. Trade ANB and get in players that can impact the contest. Some outside run to help Harmes and compliment Oliver. Do what you can to get Hill over the line. Touch decisions need to be made.
-
Ultimately, Hogans departure has identified how badly we're missing key small forwards. ANB has been hopeless, Hannan has been injured, Garlett is done, and Spargo is 12 years old. It's fine if Mcdonald and Weid are attracting the 1 and 2 defenders. Combine our lacking ground work inside 50 with almost no outside run (excluding Harmes), and you have a receipe for failure. This is why we badly need Langdon and Hill. A healthy Hannan, AVB, Melksham, Weid, TMac up forward, Hill Langdon and Harmes on the outside, Petracca doing his magic, Viney Brayshaw and Oliver winning on the inside. We have the pieces but I question our capabilities to quickly address these issues because we need to make harsh list changes this off season. Player management has been a failure this year and last preseason, the next big test for Goodwin and go is to effectively manage any niggles, identify these gaps, and fill them. On the plus side if we do see improvement next year I think it's going to be a sharp incline.

What would it take to bounce back in 2020?
praha replied to Little Goffy's topic in Melbourne Demons
Hoping for the best, expecting the worst. I just don't think we have it. -
My top 5 "retro": - Beating Carlton in the finals in 94 - Jakovich pretty much all of 93-94 - Sean Charles running goal from the centre in 94 vs WC - Beating Carlton in the 2000 finals after being 30 down in the third quarter - Brad Green kicking the winning goal vs Hawthorn in round 1...2002? Or maybe it was 2003. Trapper Johnston's 2nd and 3rd quarters in the 2002 Semi vs Adelaide an honourable mention.

Look, I mean, she's not wrong... i do find it funny though that ever media personality that talks about Melbourne mentions that...the media's not talking about Melbourne. It's a class thing imo. People like Caro love seeing the Dees down the bottom while her Toiges are at the top. But...she's not wrong.
