By definition a priority pick is awarded to bad clubs. You don't finish last without an element of mismanagement. Saying GC don't deserve a priority pick because they managed their list poorly misses the point by the length of the Milky Way.
  2. Even Prestia wasn't seen as a huge signing. Huge question marks over his kicking at the time. Now set to be B&F in a flag year. Caddy as well. Houli was on the brink. Huge question marks over Dusty resigning. A lot more changed for Richmond that preseason than a few list changes.
  3. Sounds like wrist slashing to me!

We got them back with an overpaid Woewoden though. Take THAT, Collingwood!
  5. Sustained success. Without it you feed a losing culture.
  6. I'm no "Goodwindee" but it's not the A graders winning games for the Tigers. They win the small battles across the ground and play a superb team game. We have the pieces but when you have perennial losers as your team leaders, and hot heads like Oliver and Petracca leading the way elsewhere, you need to find a way to motivate players to sacrifice ego and individual prestige for the team.
  7. All starts at the top. Peggie O'Neal and Brendan Gale are both smart, ruthless and agile leaders. Gale built a plan that started with being openly critical of the club's cultural imperfections. My concern with the current regime is that PJ and Co. were open about where the club was, but the current regime is driven by an expectation. Pert has been around for 2 seconds but Barlett and Co. won't have long unless things turn around. Tigers also had a bonafide star in Martin, brought in Prestia and Caddy, and drafted like 10 small forwards between 2016 and 2017. We may have potential stars with the likes of Oliver and Petracca but not even Richmond of 2016 were as bad as we were this year. Reasonable to expect a finals berth next year but we'd need more than Tomlinson and Elliot to turn things around.

Evidently, in Howe's case, the manager rightly upped the price to Howe's true value, which regrettably Melbourne disagreed with. Clubs will do their due diligence, Frost might get more at Hawthorn but they're also desperate to fill their cap with experience with the likes of Puopolo and Isaac set to go off the books this year. So would they rather go after experience on a 400k salary or bring in inexperienced potential, 3-4 players? Clarkson is a masterful coach but I also trust him to be a results driven man, he's topping up his retirement coffers at this stage, hitting KPIs and setting achieveable expectations. He can't lose. They'll bounce between top 4 and 10th-12th for the remainder of his coaching career and it won't put a dent in his credentials.

Maybe. Ideally we should have pushed harder for him when he was set to leave the Cats. I feel like he peaked early and was at his best in his late seasons at Geelong, early seasons at Brisbane. Could maybe play a role for us up forward and can still be dangerous though. But I doubt he'd entertain coming back to Vic.

He's not leaving Collingwood. We've done our due diligence in offering a contract to an OTC small forward. In turn we'll likely lose Frost. Hope we know what we're doing.
  11. We need to think bigger and long term. 1 flag followed by 50 more years of mediocrity would be pointless. We need sustained success.

Are you talking about the club or yourself?

No way Pies can afford him. He'd be looking at a hefty paycut to knock any offers back this year. This is why you don't pay overs for guys like Frost and Jones.
  14. Funny. I'm doing a leadership course at work at the moment. It is the educational equivalent of having someone masturbate into your ear.
  15. we actually had a list stacked with finals experience, which we'd kill for now. only problem was we couldn't get them on the park, and Bailey and co. forced them all into retirement.
  16. This thread needed a bump as much as we need more inside mids.

11pm imo. We are close and have the pieces. Just need a cherry on top.

Where's his 5-goals against Fitzroy in 96? Only like 5 games into this career. https://finalsiren.com/MatchDetails.asp?GameID=1142&Code=b8574a79f7dfd862a2f96a8c83433c81

Worse than 1997 and 1999, about onpar with 2003, but not anywhere near as bad as 2008, 2009, second half of 2012, 2013 or 2014.

You're probably right but you speak like as if a player's management speaking with a club midseason about said player's role within the team is common. Which it probably is for players uncertain about their future. Murmurs of Trac requesting a trade may well be BS but I think it's reasonable to assume that: 1. there was an element of unhappiness there, and; 2. that a trade was suggested, likely by Trac's crew, as a means to an end. It being a reasonable outcome from the meeting doesn't mean unequivocally that it happened, or feed into rumours that he requested a trade. But let's not pretend like as if there wasn't some angst there.
  22. praha replied to Demondan75's post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
We should look at potential trades the way teams in the NBA do: you rarely if ever trade with teams you're directly competing against for a championship, especially if they're in their conference or division. Never, ever trade with a Hawthorn, Geelong, West Coast, Collingwood unless you're absolutely, unequivocally getting like for like or top tier talent in return. Trading Trac to the Hawks for pick 11 and Bruest or Gunston is one of the dumbest trades this club could make at this time. The Hawks are slowly but surely building a squad through trades and free agency, and gifting them Trac would effectively help them rise back up. We need to be brutal like this. If we are trading any of our core out we have to start demanding currency in return. Pick 11 just doesn't get it done. There is a reason why Pies and Hawks supporters are licking their lips at the prospect of getting Petracca.
  23. They went from a superbly average team in 2016 and 2017 to a true team that plays for each othet in 2018 and 2019. Utterly ravaged by injury both seasons but those that have come in have stepped up and played a role. Difference at Melbourne is that once fringe players like JKH and Stretch get a gig they are playing for their careers rather than the team. You could sense towards the end of 2017 that something special was afoot at the Pies. And it wasn't just their bullying of us in round 23. But it was part of it. If any game is a metaphor for where both club's stand today, it is round 23 2017. They had nothing but pride to play for. We had a finals berth being handed to us on a silver platter. They beat us fair and square. 12 months later and they are a flag contender and 24 months later they are still in the thick of it.
