Maybe Maric and a pick for West Coast's pick 6, although I'd be more then happy to hang onto Maric.
-
Reckon he's played himself onto the list, assuming Melbourne is able to off load players like Bell and Newton for picks we don't use. If Melbourne have 3 retirements trade say Buckley along with Bell and Newton (purely to off load those 2) and delist 1 other player eg. Meesen then that would open up 7 spots. 4 picks in the ND, 1 in the PSD and then promote Valenti and Spencer. Big question will be if they can create that amount of rom.

He could go on 1 more year IMO but if he goes on it should be McDonald's last year, and vice-versa. He could be handy down there with Jurrah, Bate, Sylvia, Petterd & Wonna next year, giving Watts another year to find his feet as a KPF in the VFL. However with Bruce being eligable to be one of our 2 vetran listed players next year we should only have 1 other player over 30, meaning one of Robbo or McDonald should make way at seasons end.

Mark Seaby = No! Mediocre ruckman who doesn't demand the number 1 ruck status ahead of Jamar so would be a wasted recruit. McKinley & Reilly would be ok but wouldn't give anything more then pick 34 + a player like Bell, Johnson, Newton or Buckley for either of them. Could always look at a trade like that? If one of them was uncontracted could have always looked to pick them up in the PSD.

Paul Wheatley Mathew Whelan and Russell Robertson

I'd actually forgotten about that until you mentioned but now I remember. Couldn't have been a Wheatley moment without the slip as he kicked it! -

I remember the first time I saw Wheaters play live. It was about round 7 I think in 2000 out at Docklands against West Coast. Neitz was playing in defence on Cummings, Schwarz was out injured and this young kid Wheatley was playing CHF. Took half a dozen marks (many contested) and kicked a nice goal from outside 50. Thought we'd found our new CHF however was almost never used that way again and went down back, I always thought he should have been used forward more but that was just me. Cheers Wheaters you've been a good servent of the club and have my respect, good luck in what you do in the future. Oh and if true, I do like the thought of the 31 guernsey being handed to Scully next year! -
All teams assuming no more injuries. This would give Robbo, Whelan, McDonald & Wheatley farwell matches and would also get Whelan to game 150! FREMANTLE IN: Buckley, Jurrah, McLean, Rivers OUT: Bail (inj), Bruce (inj), Miller, Valenti FB: Frawley, Martin, Bartram HB: McNamara, Rivers, Cheney C: Morton, Moloney, Davey HF: Sylvia, Bate, Petterd FF: Jurrah, Newton, Jetta FOLL: Spencer, Dunn, McLean INT: Buckley, Johnson, Jones, McDonald CARLTON IN: Watts, Whelan OUT: Bartram, Newton FB: Frawley, Martin, Whelan HB: McNamara, Rivers, Cheney C: Morton, Moloney, Davey HF: Sylvia, Bate, Petterd FF: Watts, Jurrah, Jetta FOLL: Spencer, Dunn, McLean INT: Buckley, Johnson, Jones, McDonald ST. Think that was just more of an example as to what type of a trade we'd have to make in order to move up positions in the draft. I for one certainly wouldn't want to get rid of Jones and I don't think anyone else would either.
-
Yeah I mentioned on another thread that would be nice if we could gradualy move our way up the draft table, but as you said would be difficult as other teams may not be enticed. For example if all teams held their positions at the moment would be fantastic if we could do Newton & pick 34 to Geelong for pick 32. Bell & pick 32 to Adelaide for pick 27. Johnson & pick 27 to Sydney for pick 24. Buckley & pick 24 to North Melbourne for pick 21. Would be fantstic but a long shot at the same time.
-
I like your thinking. Moving up positions in the draft should be our only priority during trade week. I don't see the need for us to be looking for other players.
-
Maybe with a pick also as a sweetner, just to move up the draft order a little with our 4th pick???? Would love another top 20 pcik so we could get Scully, Trengove, Jetta & Panos!
-
Nope. Would only take him if he went through to the PSD. picks 1, 2 & 18 are untouchable for mine!
-
I'd retire McDonald, Robbo, Whelan & Wheatley. Trade Newton, Buckley, Johnson, Bell. Lets us have 4 picks ND, 1 pick PSD and elevate Valenti & Spencer. 1 more year on rookie list for McKenzie for mine.
-
1. Watts 2. Jurrah 3. Grimes 4. Morton 5. Garland 6. Petterd 7. Maric 8. Davey 9. Frawley 10. Blease *I'd add Scully and Trengove to the list but we don't actually have them yet.

Saints by a point. My fiance's a saints fan so would love it!
-
We'll be right! Word is Rivers, McLean, Jurrah, Grimes & Jamar will all play this week. Keep my fingers crossed for that one.
-
If we could get Marty Clark for Miller that would be great but doubt it. Don't want to let go of Maric though, he'll be a gun! Looking forward to the forward line of Watts, Jurrah, Wonna, Maric, Sylvia & Bate.
-
Inbalanced yes, but the main thing it does do is improve the positioning in the draft, as you said though it would be very elaborate. Johnson probably would be the biggest far fetch I guess as you pointed out Richmond do have a few ruckmen, mabe Hawthorn would be a better suit seeing as Taylor is such a dumb ruckman? As for Newton to Geelong with Mooney over 30 and Geelong toying around with Hawkins as a 2nd ruckman they may be looking for another forward. Who knows, maybe Newton would be a lot better with the ball being delivered to him by Geelong midfield??
-
Newton and 4th round pick for Geelong's 3rd round pick. Bell and 3rd round pick acquired from Geelong for Adelaide's 3rd round pick Johnson and 3rd round pick acquired from Adelaide for Richmond's 3rd round pick Buckley and our 3rd round pick & 3rd round pick acquired from Richmond for North Melbourne's 2nd round pick. All these players would serve a purpose at those respective clubs. Very long and drawn out but would leave us with 4 picks probably in the top 20 and would clear up roster space for the National draft, PSD and allow Valenti & Spencer to be promoted. This is of course assuming McKenzie is kept on the rookie list one more year and McDonald, Whelan, Robertson & Wheatley all retire.
-
So has everyone cooled on Butcher and wouldn't even consider him as a potential number 2 pick anymore? I still like the prospect of 1. Scully 2. Butcher 18. Jetta More so then 1. Scully 2. Trengove 18. Panos Think there's less risk with the first option as the go home factor wont play into it as Jetta will at least be over here with his cousin and the other two players are Victorian?

Melbourne side I would like to see play for round 20. FB: Frawley, Martin, Bartram HB: McNamara, Rivers, Cheney C: Morton, Moloney, Davey HF: Sylvia, Bate, Petterd FF: Watts, Jurrah, Jetta FOLL: Spencer, Dunn, McLean INT: Grimes, Johnson, Jones, McDonald ROUND 21 IN: Whelan OUT: Bartram ROUND 22 IN: Robertson, Wheatley OUT: Dunn, McNamara FB: Frawley, Martin, Whelan HB: Wheatley, Rivers, Cheney C: Morton, Sylvia, Davey HF: Watts, Bate, Petterd FF: Jurrah, Robertson, Jetta FOLL: Spencer, Moloney, McLean INT: Grimes, Johnson, Jones, McDonald This is all baring injury of course. Round 22 could be farwell game for all McDonald, Robertson, Wheatley and Whelan, also being the laters 150th game. Valuable game time given to Spencer, Watts, Jurrah, Cheney and McNamara. Not to mention Grimes and Jetta also. Let the planning for 2010 begin!
-
Is Miller out of contract? I thought he was contracted till end of next year, but maybe not? I don't like Rivers for Hale. I like our current core group of defenders. With Rivers, Warnock, Frawley, Garland and Bennell we're looking really solid. Don't want to mess with a good thing!
-
While he has been impressive I still don't know where he will fit in at the club as part of the future? Still see him as trade bait. Especially if Melbourne decide to draft Butcher with pick 2.
-
With talk of Trent Croad potentially not playing again maybe Melbourne could trade Miller and our 4th round pick to Hawthorn for their 3rd round pick. Hawthorn could try and re-invent Miller as a defender and we could free up some room in the squad for new players???
-
Also word is Sandilands wants out of Freo, so they may offer him for pick 2? Personally I don't think he's worth pick 2.
