There have been so many of these players over the years that look great when trade time comes around but never do anything. Brent Prismall, Jack Hannath...we were having conniptions here about missing out on these futures stars. The reality is very few discards go on to do anything great. They might plug a gap for a short while...Mitchie is one of those for mine, Ben Newton another.

I think we are all frustrated its taking so long. It aint rocket science to play footy. And I don't think we started from scratch. there are some incontrovertible tenets of the game that we learn from primary school. Sure we had to 're-programme' a few to 'modern footy' and some didn't make it like Garland and Dunn but the basics and skill errors still kill me. Particularly when under no pressure. And the lack of leadership....there is simply no excuse for us not to have more of it..

on field leadership.... or Gatorade...

I don't buy it. 1 year into our system? Please. We are three years into our 'system' assuming you throw out everything these players have learned since grade 2 in school like; how to properly stand on the mark, how to defend a kick in; how to pick up an opponent when the opposition has the ball; how to put a tall man on the goal line when the opposition are kicking for goal from 50m out etc. You know, the basic stuff. The 'rebuild' was supposed to ingrain our defence and then switch focus on attack. While a cursory glance would suggest this has largely happened it's the issues of effort, skill, footy smarts like tackling properly and the basic stuff above that we are being let down in every second week. There are serial offenders and when you put up the stats from our losses its obvious who aren't pulling their weight in those games. And as for skills there is very little evidence to say we have improved. How can we still miss handball targets frmo 2m away or handball to a man standing still. I find it infuriating.

A lot have a plan B, C and D. They have set plays, they have leaders who step up when an opposition team get 2 or 3 in a row. They slow the game down, they keep possession etc etc We vary things very little. And we are still terrible at kick ins. Defending a kick in is unbelievably poor - there were at least 3 occasions when the Saints delayed a player cming on to the ground so that they could kick in to them unattended. We could all see it but none of our onfield leaders or coaches could seem to. My 2 cents...

Ha ha troll. Your posts are seriously pathetic

I think he problem is we HAVE been sticking to our style. And its easy to coach against and we have no plan B.

Rucks have worked out if they jump into Max early they can nullify him. Grundy did it, Hickey does it as have others. Stafford better work out something quick with Max because itsone sure way to beat Melbourne is beat Max. Can't believe we are round 17 and still trying to work this stuff out. WTF else do they do at training????
-
What? the guy who broke his contract to go the drug cheating scumbags for the golden child Hird? He can GAGF
-
same as lst time we played them
-
then that is a mental problem... altho teams at or below us know they can beat us if they put pressure on us.
-
Can't have players in the middle not defending as well...Needs to do that. And if there are questions on his tank he can't play in the middle...
-
Good point. But you'll be howled down by those arguing that older players are damaged goods or psychologically scarred from playing under under Neeld and Bailey
-
Fast losing patience with our coaching staff. They are clueless about some things including how to beat the Saints at Etihad.
-
At least JT could get he pill.

How much more evidence do you need? The last 10 seasons not enough for you?

I don't think he is. Even PJ was targeting finals this year. We have improved but it is marginal and incremental. I have never bought into the "it takes 5 years to change a game plan" garbage. Our defence is a trainwreck. Our mids go missing regularly. Our players make dumb mistakes time and time again. Worst of all is our leadership disappears and we have little other than Viney, Jones and Vince to stand up and stop teams kicking 7 or 8 in a row against us.

I generally like the hardness that AVB brings but he has dropped off alarmingly this year. An interupted season doesn't explain the lack of possessions and impact since he came back in rd 11. On the weekend he had 4 kicks and 8 hb's with 1 tackle! What has happened? He has to be dropped. We are effectively a mid down the way he has been playing. No they scored a point. But it was carp play by us nonetheless.
-
I know you are trying to be optimistic but those excuses don't cut it.
-
You need to look at their marks inside 50. Can't tackle them when they take uncontested marks.
-
As many as you like It's a sad reflection of where we are at and I am becoming increasingly frustrated by our coaching staff....
-
Many of us warned that the Essendon game was a danger game but the coaching staff were clueless. We forecast a problem with the Saints at Etihad in round 6 and could not have played a worse game. 18 uncontested marks inside 50 to the Saints. What did the caoching staff do? NADA. Today was a carbon copy. WTF are our coachig staff doing? We all knew what the Saints would do. Exactly what they did in Rd 6. And we were right again. Yet we played dumb dumb football threw too many at the contest let them flip it outside and run it down the outer side. Deja vous all over again Yet again Tom Mac has spectacular brainfades when the ball comes or when he takes a sound grab and tries to play on. Yet again a spud like Membrey has a day out on us. Yet again Montagna, Reiwoldt and Steven have a day out on us. Yet again Oscar Mac is bustled off the ball 10 time in a game. I don't get what he adds to to the team at this point but we can't keep taking so many inexperienced players into the backline each week It's soul destroying. MIdfielders going missing; Tyson and Vandenburg. VB is due a spell at Casey. Has done nothing since his return. Gawn getting jumped into by Hickey at every stoppage. Garlett and Kent go missing again in a loss. The chopping the arms rule has been thrown out. I am over making the same mistakes week after week.
