I like this idea.

Says you. The end of a game when everyone is out on their feet can be frantic and amongst the best recollections of a games' appeal. I think it is indisputable that when players are 'fatigued' and running on willpower, G&D etc is when you see the real warriors stand out. It's not just as you say related to 'skill errors' or ''attractiveness" Do you work at Channel 7? Personally I don't care how a game looks. I grew up with one on one contests and looked forward to seeing a Jakovich vs Carey battle. A rare thing these days.

What a pleasant change to have a constructive conversation about 2 up and coming young talls..... Give yourselves a pat on the back..

You may be right. My recollection was that he was pushing the changes early on but by the end of his tenure was trying to remove a number of the changes - particularly the interchange free for all.
-
He wanted to leave.

I have gone from being optimistic on Weid to being slightly pessimistic. Have seen some glimpses but one area of real concern for me is his inability to regularly hold marks. Fix that and he has the potential to become a good player but I'm not sure you can fix such a problem that easily.

Nathan Buckley when leaving Brisbane Bears "I'm going to Collingwood because I want to win a flag"

All these problems started when the interchange numbers went through the roof. Players could run all day. Kevin Bartlett and Channel 7 effected a raft of rule changes over a 10yr period to speed up the game create more breaks for TV ads etc. That plan has morphed into the scrum we have today The solution is staring them in the face

1. Belief: in themselves and the game plan 2. Luck with injuries That's it

I like these Oppo Watch threads. Good if we can keep them going....

Goodwin: 'We were the worst side in the history of the game'

Not my comparison. It was Goodwin's I just pointed out he was wrong. -
I have one of those too....

Simon clearly doesn't know his history. University and St Kilda have had much worse periods. -
I think that may be part of the issue - I don't think Jack is a spiritual leader. He's more a lead by example kind of guy. There were some rumblings about two camps with Jones and Viney and whether or not that is true, players follow guys who are natural leaders not just leaders in name. I recall when Sam Mitchell was Captain but it was clear that Hodge was the spiritual leader. I see Gawn as the guy on field that others follow. I think May and Lever could be too if they can put a body of games together...

elbow...

Maybe a proper pre-season??
-
So diving has now been added to the list of things to be rewarded for?
-
Just because you aren't Captain doesn't mean you can't lead.

Don't have any left after last year...
-
Had an easy draw last year and virtually no injuries. I suspect that had quite an impact on their high finish. But they did have momentum and gained a bit of belief throughout the year.

They don't actually train...just to avoid injury mind you...

Said back in Dec it wasnt looking good for the lad...sad for him we are at this juncture

History says you start 0-3 you will be highly unlikely to make finals. An added factor for us is that we have a whole new coaching panel that needs to gel and have their act together ASAP. Beat WCE and all of a sudden our season is off to a flyer. Get well beaten by WCE and the pressure will start. Given our background and recent history, an 0-3 start will likely our season is all over and Goodwin and the playing group will be under huge pressure. Its a binary outcome for the Dees it would seem.

Not even Goodwin did that...... Oh wait, that was the prelim....
