  1. There seems lots at play here. Insurance company being an Insurance company, but also the local branch sponsoring the football club that one of them played for and league approved Insurance policies... step back and take the emotion out of it - The players will be saying they can't work - true from a football perspective, not necessarily true from an Insurance point of view where they could work in another job - so are watching them like a hawk to see if normal day to day life stacks up with the premise they are unable to work from a physical point of view - fascinating stuff. Without knowing the wording of the policies- its pure speculation as to the rights of the players vs the rights of the Insurance company. I remember Luc Longley screwing his ankle up and retiring from the NBA and when Bogut retired from the NBA - they had to tread a very fine line, not working in any capacity to ensure multimillion dollar Insurance payouts. I guess we are finally seeing that here with medical retirements now far more common with head injuries. Still for the life of me can't work out how payouts following medical retirements while contracted remain in the salary cap in any capacity. Obviously the concern is being dodgy - doing big deals and being able to wipe them off the books with some trickery. But the space is different now with concussions literally wiping players out of the competition instantly
  2. This gives me PTSD symptoms.... uncontrollable shaking, cold sweats. 1987 really doesn't feel that long ago.....
  3. I completely stopped respecting her years ago after she would write an opinion piece on a Tuesday and then quote her own opinions on the Thursday as "Facts".....
  4. Its a SOFT cap! We are allowed to go over it FFS. Just means need to pay a bit extra to AFL house... which given AFL house determine how much funding each club get and there really is no visibility on why each club gets what they get.... its really just another negotiation at head office to determine what the "tax" vs payments actually is.....
  5. Obviously in the captain/coach mould - RDB mk2
  6. Jordan Lewis on board as well (not as strong on the timeline though - happy stick with it though) https://x.com/RSNBreakfast/status/1954685579012325492
  7. Too early to start the "Is Nathan Buckley the right guy" thread??
  8. Mid-Forward connection is the biggest gaping hole. Whether that is Forward craft that opens up leading channels or our mids honouring the guys in the right places and nailing them. Or having the skill level to do so. The hardest thing in football and the easiest thing in football. Get that connection right - we shoot for goal im better positions allowing easier shots and a better return. Nothing more deflating for the team when our forwards get = or more looks at goals but dont convert. The goal conversion has been dismal. Where we shoot feom helps dramatically (although the number of 30-40m straight in front shots that are sprayed is unforgivable) Back line is at the level required generally. Our midfield mix requires more speed on the ball - kossie Lindsay Windsor help address this. Tracc as a 70/30 Forward mid instead of 8020 the other way allows it to happen. Avoiding a dominant mid structure of 1 paced brutes and mixing in the speed and polish is the required trick here. A bona fide KPF to partner jvr. Can't rely on 4 mid sized forwards... need the spread of tall, short, mid, speed and marking prowess intertwined. Clone kossie for 2 more of him.... one deep forward, one mid and one as the roaming defensive half forward....
  9. Really interested to hear what a "proper process" actually involves from all those demanding it. We are not a government agency/public job so therefore we don't have to throw out a public advertisement asking for CV's, nor have a publicly visible team of recruiters analysing every word for the public record. We don't and nor should we ever know what has actually transpired between our board/executive team and any of the candidates. The requirement of our posters basically asking for a blow by blow detailing those involved is actually kind of ridiculous from a private entity. The due process from my vantage point seems to have been happening for quite some time with the man in question. If i doesn't happen by all means get some cv's submitted and have a few rounds of interviews and presentations, but presenting your thoughts on a team you have had 0 contact with and how you are going create rapport with the 45 odd players and how ever many staff is about as pointless as rock scissors paper in choosing between the senior assistants. That kind of process gets you a Mark Neeld - great assistant and power point specialist but not a senior coaches [censored]
  10. Credit where credit is due - amazing goal for Rhylee West
  11. Wrong option there Riv
  12. Oskar Baker really has become a far far better footballer tham what he was at the Dees
  13. Just remember Dub 50% if football is half mental
  14. We're being kept in it by their misses
  15. We lost the toss - bont chose the direction. Ed langdon was in there for the call on his 200th
  16. @Neil Crompton round 2 NM game had already seal Goodies exit. The players were disinterested. Was the most pathetic onfield performance i have EVER witnessed. Any club leader would also have recognised this - im a tally astounded he wasn't walked out of the club then and there. If that time correlates with coffee with Bucks - it means our i coming Pres is 100% in tune with the needs of the club going forwards.
  17. Have been waiting for my new name on here. Been a while since BBB retired It may arrive shortly. Buckley's Chance. Consider it reserved 😆
  18. Its not just any club though hey. A club waiting for a no footy experience CEO, waiting for the pres to start, generally on the nose with the media, home base issues, a leaky and factioned board, whipping boy for head office to change rules via the tribunal..... A newbie won't cut it (or at least is very unlikely to) The head coach position is far far more than just coaching - he(or she) will instantly become the figure head of this footy club - the face that represents every facets going forwards. It requires an unwavering approach in the face of every piece of [censored] that gets thrown at it from the media, a seasoned coach with super strong links at head office, the media and has the gravitas to inspire our current underperforming stars and attract new actual talent not just the scraps that no one else wants. It 100% HAS to be one of Buckley, Longmire, Simpson or Hinkley. I am now absolutely convinced Buckley is the right man for the job
  19. Interestingly over in Magpie Land, the wheels have fallen off the Fly Love in A quote from Nicks Bulletin board on their "is Mcrae the best coach since Jock Mchale" thread "Tonight you got your answer. When the going is tough the last thing you need is a friendly new age coach. The coaches drank their own bathwater after the last bye." The last thing we need is another 'matey' type coach. We need a performance culture not a love in
  20. There's a good racetrack in Cranbourne as well
  21. Listening to the Bucks and whateley segment. Bucks just talked himself into going for it. Went from yeah nah to 'theyre a big club with a storied history and good experienced list' and his facial cues gave it away very quickly - he is 100% gunning for the gig at the end. Would he be my first choice - doubt it, but 2nd time around getting some ducks in a row it could work with him. Still prefer Horse or Simmo, but Bucks has a quality about him - all 3 would demand a working FD structure and bring the required gravitas to focus the playing group
  22. Easy... Ralph is an [censored]
