  1. I think you mean CTRL + F5, but I get what you mean. I think it is far more likely that the membership went up by exactly 1000. (IWUAEHIIUE) (Did I get that right?)
  2. I didn't believe the figures quoted here so I checked the MFC website this morning and it definitely said 27267.
  3. The Melbourne website seems to have been updated. It now reads 28267.
  4. Not long now. March 31st comparison: 2009 - we had 27,128 members 2010 - we had 27,595 members 2011 - we have 32,386 members
  5. I'm sure that Jaded's mentions of lazy [censored], fat arse and kicks in the nuts are merely non gender specific terms of endearment. How could it possibly percieved otherwise?
  6. Fighting back tears. Very, very sad news. He's a huge loss, not just to the Melbourne Football Club, but to the community at large. Rest in peace Jim, lost but never forgotten.

Hmm, I guess it's fair enough that any of the players that contributed to the season get rewarded. Coaches, maybe. Administration, probably not. Miami are certainly up there. Chicago could go the whole way if guys like Boozer can make significant contributions in the finals, otherwise they're relying too heavily on Rose. I think those two will definitely be playing off for the Eastern Conference finals. Orlando always have a great regular season record, but I reckon they rely too heavily on their perimeter shooting. The Lakers have made a few moves at the trade deadline that could work out for them, but are struggling for time for the team to gel in this shortened season. OKC would have to be in with a chance. And the Spurs are up there again, Tony Parker has had an incredible season so far. The Western Conference is fairly open. But you're right, barring any major injuries I think the Heat are short odds to win the championship. Chicago I think will be their major hurdle.

I'm not sure he even touched the ball in the playoffs. But as long as you're on the roster, you get a ring. I'm lead to believe even the coaching and administration staff get rings. They certainly do things differently over there huh? I hope to see Patty get some court time. Fingers are crossed.

Well the news is we've got another Aussie in the NBA. After finally being released by his Chinese team, Patty Mills rights were then renounced by the Blazers, leaving him as a free agent. He's just signed up with the San Antonio Spurs, who are currently running 2nd in the western conference. It will be interesting to see how much game time he'll get.
  11. The point I was trying to make is that you don't necessarily need to spend big to be a successful team. Saints and Bulldogs got close without a huge budget. They've probably got a case for missing out on ultimate success due to an underfunded football department. Even though our budget is smaller than the Hawthorn's & Geelong's we've had access to some good draft picks, budget shouldn't preclude us from being a good team. When we get to the pointy end of the competition then I will accept football spending as an excuse, but it will only be for not going the full distance.
  12. I've pinched some figures I found on BigFooty. Not a comprehensive list, but enough to give you an idea. Bear in mind that the total spend includes the players salary. Did we spend the total cap last year? And Geelong & the Pies being in Premiership contention would obviously be spending more on getting important players back from injury. But there still remains a chasm between the have's and have not's. I think the important thing to take from the figures is that big budgets don't necessarily guarantee sucess and that a team can still be successful with a modest budget. By recruiting good players and good coaches you're in with a chance, the Bulldogs & Saints being good examples. But that additional spending will certainly help reach the ultimate success. Where does that leave us? We've had the same opportunity as everyone else to dip into the draft, if we've recruited any potential stars then we're still waiting for them to develop. Plenty of potential, no stars. So until such time that we a lot closer to glory, then I don't think we can use money, or a lack there of, as an excuse. Edit: Maybe I should have used better examples than the Bulldogs & Saints. They've been up there for a while but didn't actually do that well last year. The message is still there though.
  13. I've noticed a few mentions of Peep Show. Mitchell & Webb play the main characters in the show but are also very funny in their own right. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3JKcExmQlA
  14. Priceless. And you can't mention face sitting without thinking of Monty Python.

  16. The membership tally has been making me nervous, so I've just signed up my niece & nephew. I've a sneaking suspicion that I'll get in trouble for it, my brother and sister in law are Tigers and Pies fans. But they're not members so hopefully their lack of effort will be to my advantage. Add in a Birthday Club each, how could I go wrong? My Dad's getting married next month. I wonder if I should sign up his fiance?
  17. I motion we change it to "Like a Boss!"
  18. My vote would have to go to Whateley too. I believe he was close to leaving the ABC at the end of last year. It will be a sad day if he does ever leave. Can't stand listening to the commercial stations.
  19. I've just stumbled on the soundtrack to the movie Lialeh. It's by the legendary session drummer Bernard "Pretty" Purdie. From what I understand it's probably his first true solo album. The movie Lialeh was apparently described as the first black porn movie. And, believe what you will, I've never seen the movie and didn't discover the album by watching it. Jack Jack's Jazz 2.0

Yeah, admittedly I'm not a big fan of their soft salary cap. Definately favours the big market teams, so it's not really a level playing field. Breaking news is that Andrew Bogut has been traded to the Golden State Warriors.

I'm surprised to see that there's no NBA thread. Admittedly there's a pretty poor showing from the Australian contingent at the moment and it's been getting worse over the last few years. Andrew Bogut (I think he was in All Star form a few years back until that cheap nudge from Stoudemire caused him horrific injuries. Sadly he hasn't been himself since) is our only Aussie in the league and he's currently out injured. Last year we had Patty Mills in PTown and the year before there was David Anderson and Nathan Jawai. So beyond following any team that's got an Aussie listed player I find myself having a soft spot for the Detroit Pistons, and, to a lesser extent, the New jersey Nets. Greg Monroe and Brandon Knight look like some good young players that'll take them places in a few years time. Can the Nets hold on to DWill and possibly snare Dwight Howard? The trade deadline isn't far off now so it'll be interesting to see if any big deals go through. Beyond Miami, Chicago and OKC I can't really see anyone else challenging for the title this year. And now that Linsanity has started to die down, what'll become of the Knicks? Not that I'm a big fan of theirs but with so many big names in the team I think they should be doing better. Thoughts?
  22. How good was Live's Throwing Copper. The Dam On Otter Creek is an amazing song. They convey a real drama and tension. Phenomenal stuff. They remind me of another band 90's band that started well and then slowly petered out, the Gin Blossoms. There's a sad story behind the guy that wrote this song. I actually thought I'd posted this song before. Have I? I'm starting to lose track. Jack Jack 3.4
