body size is no excuse for fumbling and hesitation. there are many players that are skinny as rake yet still play decisive footy.

im 90% sure that Rich will be at least as good as Daniel Kerr and I think Watts is no chance of being a Riewoldt or Franklin or the star that we are after. While I would love to have a talented KP at melbourne, deep down I think everyone knows that Rich is the player that has to be taken. If Melbourne pick up Watts and he isnt a star, melbourne will be laughed at for many many years for claiming to 'take the best available' player.
-
don't fret guys. Watts simply will not nominate if fremantle or west coast hint at picking him up with a #1 or #2 pick. Watts has pubicly stated that he wants to stay in Victoria, this alone will be enough to deter both freo and west coast from picking him up. Watts just has to 'look if you pick me up, i'll be back in victoria in 2 years once my contract expires'..too easy. whilst i dont want watts as rich is easily the superior player, it looks like watts is almost guaranteed to be a demon.
-
he is no speed demon..but daniel bell is pretty quick too and he gets run down more than anyone in our team.
-
As in Yze_Magics beloved Cameron Buce?
-
he will be a replacement, have i missed something? some idiot posted saying that green, bell, cjohnson, bruce, whelan, petterd were all half back flankers..and they most definitely are not. i think sherman would be a good replacement for any of those guys that are being played in the wrong position. sherman is a specialist HBF and will always be better than any of those players listed as they arent HBF's..apart from petterd and maybe cj.
-
completely flawed logic. according to this, fevola would be a good pick up? he is a star, that fills a need. It just goes to show that it is alot more complicated than 2 simple steps. age is an issue: sherman is still young. Also according to you, melbourne footy club would not even look at players like shaun burgoyne, scott thompson, daniel kerr, bartel if they wanted out at their respective clubs because we already have those types of players at our club. Sherman could be to Whelan, bell, chris johnson etc as a daniel kerr is to nathan jones...an improvement!
-
naitanui is a little bit taller than white though and can jump higher so i think he would overcome that. ruckman jump wayyy too early half the time anyway
-
yay some people thast know their footy. anyone under 22 that has had a top 2 finish in a best and fairest has some serious talent. he is a specialist half back flanker in my opinion whereas whelan, green, bell, frawley, buckley and bruce are either utilities (bruce), upcoming key position players(frawley), back pocket players(whelan) or midfielders(green).
-
sherman at his best is better than everone on that list though
-
andrew mcleod plays on the HBF. its still an important position. while Key position should be a preference, if Sherman got remotely back to his best...he would be a better replacement for whelan. and with the PJ example, if we singled out every time a player made a mistake players like Miller would have been delisted years ago. I think sherman is worth a shot.
-
he is only 21, dropped to the reserves recently and down on confidence. Does anyone think he would be worth trading for? In just his 2nd season he was awesome on the half back line, averaged 22 touches a game, kicked 17 goals for the year, ran the lines and finished 2nd in their best and fairest. thoughts?

at the end of the day, common sense lost. how solomon got more than hall i'll never know(despite previouis records). Halls was behind the play whereas atleast the ball was in frame in Solomons case.
-
its a top 10 FOR THE CARNIVAL, not his top 10 overall.
-
i hope i regret it too
-
i reckon we should try to get another draft pick in the top 15 and draft Tyron Vickery.lol. I've only seen him play once, but seemed very agile for a 200cm ruckman. reminded me of david hille, can go forward and is a good tackler around the ground. if someone knows more about him, i'd be keen to know his weaknesses
-
no he wasnt the 4th highest in the team. Valenti, Bell, Martin and Warnock all had higher disposal efficiency %'s. Get your facts right. palmer is almost fremantles best midfielder, and alot of his disposals are under pressure. There is a reason Palmer is a monty for the rising star. if you are going to single out palmers worst game for the year, why don't we look at his best. Rd8, 27 touches, 7 clearances, 1 goal, 75% efficiency. Now lets look at Mortons worst: round 11: 16 touches, 4 clangers, no goals or clearances and 50% disposal efficiency, rd 6: 12 touches, 4 clangers. suggesting morton is going to be better than palmer at this stage is laughable given palmer's stellar season.
-
this is my very point, to suggest that he is going to be better than palmer is just silly. i am by no means saying morton is going to be a bad player, but he has done little to suggest he will surpass every single player in his draft except cotchin. admittedly, i may be loading it up a bit with morton as he has a good knack for finding the pill and in todays game his long quick strides are great..just wish his skills were alot more crisp and he didn't hesitate as much. Age is no excuse, Dunn never hesitated in his debut games, likewise with Petterd who is probably our most talented youngster coming through...besides morton of course
-
good luck with that morton has done nothing to suggest that he will get close to those guys. whats the point in being able to find the footy if you cant use it effectively. you guys are so biased regarding morton that you would probably claim that mortons shot on goal from 30metres out in the last quarter was an attempt to pass it across the goals.
-
there is a reason that valenti wasnt named in the best. i'm just a few steps ahead of you guys. i have also said on numerous occassions that jones' kicking is [email protected] get shot down, yet you guys are so surprised when he turns it over by foot. not to mention me wanting to keep wheatley on the list when half the people on this site wanted him delisted. petterd is our best youngster coming through and by a fair margin. unlike most of our youngsters he doesnt have a coronary every time he gets the ball
-
its hard to have a discussion when someone like demon3 says that palmer is not going to get any better. Experience alone will get any player alot better. there are no guarantees that morton will put on many kilograms. he might not have the body to do it. Matty Lappin never could. Morton would be a good player if he used his asset. He is quick and has a long kick...so he needs to kick long and stop handballing! there was a moment where he had the ball from 50m out on the run and chose to stuff up the handball to bruce instead. just kick the fricken thing long.
-
i wouldn't kick it to morton if he was 50 metres on his own. he puts a blow torch to the ball every time he eventually decides to kick it. waste of a pick 4. should have got palmer. never pick players that are in between hieghts (190-192). versatility is over-rated, i prefer specialty in one position
-
morton and valenti were crap. morton was hesitant, fumbly and couldn't hit a target by foot. valenti was bad by foot as well and tried to do too much when he had the ball. stef martin was a plus, as was garland. thats about it.

Jack Watts - Confirmed #1 Pick in 2008 Draft - Booyah!!!
Freak replied to Tex's topic in Melbourne Demons
i've only seen watts play twice...and if we pick him up, we will officially have no key position talent coming through for the next 5 years because of the gold coast concessions. And some people talked about rich fading out in the 3rd quarter, yet watts never faded because he never got into the game. i think after 1/4 time he had 2 touches. -
he had 10 clearances and was named Lions 2nd best player in the herald sun. Unlike many, I can back everything up with a source http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sport/afl...5015546,00.html
