  1. The footy field isnt your normal job. Putting the fresh eggs in their place maintains a heirarchy of respect and is part of the macho bonding that is unique to team sports. Without it, players like Mitch Thorp may arrive and think that their draft selection and not their games total speak for itself. I also remember reading an article that when Jordan Lewis arrived he was aggressively barked at by Richie Vandenberg which was designed to separate the boys from the men and that Jordan today inflicts the same treatment on all newcomers.
  2. Could not agree more! And 46million of taxpayer $$ to get a single vote!? If my Lowy thinks it was worth it and is planning on making another bid it better all be out of his pocket!!! disugsted
  3. I had the same problem till I downloaded Mozilla. Hope it works for u
  4. I certainly hope he is better than Staker
  5. Scully, Gys, Gawn & Fitz will never be poached in their 2nd year of AFL. Big $$ have already been thrown around for Martin who has since resigned. Fact is no 1-2 year players ever move clubs for disloyalty unless it is a "go home" (very rare) excuse or they get delisted.
  6. How is meeson a development coach when he can't develop himself... mizzare even for silly season
  7. Bruce thinks he has 3-4 years left in him. Let him go to the GC. We bottomed out with Bruce and we will go place without him
  8. Hey Rolla thanks once again for organising. Please leave me as tbc thanks
  9. Typical coaches pumping up their own boys. Does the kid have any weaknesses?
  10. Batram can't kick. He is a complete liability in the backline as a replacement for Grimes. Should be used as a tagger and nothing else. Wonna week in week out can't win a contest to save his life. Needs to seriously address his body on body work in the off-season, bc chasing just isn't enough.
  11. I don't think anyone doubts Watts will be a gun anymore or at least a very handy player. What bothers people is how soft he is at the contest. Size shouldn't matter, just look at Scully.
  12. Bail is a classy player that I've had my eye on for some time. Maybe it's appearance or running action, but he remind me of Andrew Swallow (for North) in the making who I regard as gun! Hope he gets there. Those "little mistakes" were for 2 frees (for in the back). 1 was a total b/s call & the other a 50/50. Didn't see to many mistakes for me. Just want more & more of the same. Get busier.
  13. Jordz is an absolute gem! but so is Bail!
  14. Year St Kilda Hawthorn Carlton Melbourne 2000 16th 8th 2nd 2001 15th 6th 5th 2002 15th 10th 16th Denied 1st Rd Pick 2003 11th 9th 15th 2004 3rd 15th 11th 2005 4th 14th 16th 2006 6th 11th 16th 7th 2007 9th 5th 15th 14th 2008 4th 2nd 11th 16th 2009 1st 9th 7th 16th Top 5 Picks Recieved: St Kilda- 1(reiwold), 2(kosi), 2 (Luke Ball), 1 (Goddard) Hawthorn- 1 (Hodge), 2 (Roughead), 5 (Franklin) Carlton- 2 (Walker), 1 (Murphy), 1 (Gibbs), 1 (Kreuzer), 3(Masten/Judd) Melbourne- 4 (Morton), 1 (Watts), 1 (Scully), 2 (Trengove) What this shows is that for these 3 teams which have aimed to rebuilt throught the draft, conclusions can be drawn: - Melbourne has received 4 top five picks from bottoming out, equal with St Kilda but only one less to Carlton. Therefore sufficient picks to rebuild. - It took St Kilda 3 years of bottoming out and made it to 11th place on the ladder after a successful rebuild. - Hawthorn bottomed out over 2 years and made it to 11th place on the ladder after a successful rebuild. - Carlton took longer than 3 years in what I consider a less successful rebuild to make it to 11th place on the ladder before making finals. If Melbourne follows their path on the ladder, 11th is acceptable for the Dees in 2010 to show signs of a successful rebuild and finals in 2011 is what must be expected. Anything less than 11th place this year and we are marginably behind in the journey.
  15. The day we lost NicNat. Yes had we lost that game we would have received Watts,NicNat, Scully and Trenners
  16. This one I think you can add to the list in years ahead: Pick 21- Adam Maric Pick 23- Tayte Pears
  17. So Kelly was the difference on Saturday? If next week Kelly had a career ending injury, do you think Geelong would no longer be a powerhouse?
  18. In the media Scully are frequently been compared to Judd, however I think his clean ball skills and gut running really resemble a young Ben Cousins. I find Trengove difficult to liken to any past/present player, and therefore feel he will become Jack Trengove. Curious to know what others think? (BTW if your in a negative Nancy mood then ignore this thread, which is purely for discussing feel-good, light-hearted hypotheticals)
  19. James Kelly is a joke. He contributes little to nothing to Geelongs dominance and is expendible. He should consider himself lucky to be in the team, and if he were playing for Melbourne his contribution would not have changed the outcome on Saturday at all. Ablett looked embarrassed next Kelly. What contrasting players, and probably part of the reason why Ablett is such an amazing player.
  20. So you are saying Fraser is worse than Johnson/Meesen/Spencer and "should not be part of our plans"?? The OP makes a good point and I would take Fraser in a heart beat over any of the above mentioned deadwood. Whats RR plan? keep Sylvia in the ruck and wait for stephanie martin to become an AFL player? We have our future ruck prospects in Gawn and Fitzy, but we need someone now to you know... help out the Russian and win games.
  21. Positives for Jones: Not a cheap ball-winner, tough and can be used as a tag. Negatives: Clanger king and until recently always butchers the ball. The way the bloke is tracking in his development if Jones is to be pushed out of the side in a number of years then you would think Melbourne has a very elite midfield.
  22. Im speaking of Junior. If you're referring to Joel then by all means..
  23. Out- Garland, Rivers, Bruce, Bennell (unlucky for Bennell) You say Wonna is unfit, but he and Jetta were the ones putting on huge forward line pressure. I think Wona is a game or 2 away from a big one. No way should we drop MacDonald, he has been probably the most consistent of our veterans this year and deserves more. Drop bruce if we need more pace.

    Moloney

Could not agree more. The last 2 weeks Jones has looked a little bit more composed and hit a few tough targets, where as he usually butchers the ball or doesnt get precision on his kicking..Kicking as well as knowledge and awareness has definately improved. Moloney is our work horse inside and does arguably the most 1% of any player in our team. My choice for captaincy after Junior.
  25. Brent get 1 week for going hard at the contest, causing unintentional high contact that he activately tried to prevent by turning his body while Jay Schulz gets off scott free for his off the ball punch to Garlands solar plexus! An absolute blight on the game. The AFL have no idea and are ruining the game..
