  1. A win would be amazing, for a week...but we all know what a loss could bring
  2. I read an article in MX saying that Richmond was currently the smallest and lightest team in the comp, while, you guessed it, Geelong ranked first in size and weight. Melb ranked 12th...hopefully our boys are capable of gains in this are. But it seems that at the moment we draft small bodies, have sub-par weight facilities and currently lack skill which causes players to put their bodies in harms way (clangers, backing into packs, greens diving mark causing a broken jaw) and must all change if u want to see a strong bodied, injury free melb. Stynes will get it right tho, im confident.

If such a room exists, get the whole team minus Davey in there and double padlock it! As a positive note, how bloody good are Daveys skills! He would be a shoe in at any side in the league and his foot skills, speed and evasiveness are all exceptional. Demonstrating that even in a crap side, elite players are still elite.
  4. what is this trife crap, we r useless, worst of em being Brock! all season long its Brock!
  5. What your saying is so contraversial I wouldnt know where to begin. Yes you want gut running centre half forwards with a big engine but thats only one of many key attributes that makes them dominant. If Butcher was played at FF we wouldnt need a gut running cover the ground type player, for me it is a pick worth taking if at the very least we get a big body that can split packs for crummers and kick some goals, something I think Butcher could be capable of.
  6. Come on ppl pull your head in, KPF is what we need ie Butcher Quality mids and dime a dozen in this league and the league has a plethora of quality mids found late in the draft, pick 40s and beyond. Show me how many dominant forwards today were taken as late picks.. Its time to do what St Kilda and Hawthorn did with their priority picks (not that long ago when in the dungeons): 2000 draft: Stkilda pick 1 (Reiwold), pick 2 (risky pick up Kozi who is a gun) 2004 draft: Hawthorn pick 2 (Roughead), pick 5 (risky pick up of Franklin who had no upper body strength and couldnt at the time do a pushup when recruited which is actual fact) With pick 2 melb must make the risky move of selecting Butcher because rated KPFs only present themselves early in the draft.
  7. wow the bloke has freakish athleticism! What most impressed me wasnt the goal he kicked, but when in the midfield we took off from meter behind the essendon player to disrupt the play and take possesion. He doesnt jump, the man swoops!
  8. I was pleased today to see that the kid had a naturally larger frame than I had expected and has the ability to grow nicely into an AFL body. No beampole
  9. Cant believe what im hearing. Jones is with out a doubt in our best 22 and will be a crucial player in years ahead as he continues to improvement and learn to beat the hard tag. As for the turnovers, they're not a concern bc you want a player like Jones to continue taking on defenders. This post bothers me bc there is a host of MFC players that severely need a kick up the *&$# and Jones isnt 1 of em!
  10. well said. but while Watts is still learning the game and if Robbo remains are best target up forward their is no need to rush his retirement. For me it was a breathe of fresh air to see Robo back out on the turf bc hes the only true forward the dees have (for the moment).
  11. Definately agree! but I doubt you would ever get a top 10 pick for him...early to-mid 2nd round pick is all I would expect from the GC raiders (if they would even want Brock on their list)
  12. I was at the game muppet. and some ppl need to be more realistic about rating a player after 3 games. Bit premature to get excited over this kid and start calling first dibs on his bro Not trying to be harsh to Grimes, but sick of ppl overrating our (young) list. Addam Maric is another case where some posters would have me believe his 12 disposals have him sort after by every club in the land. Give credit where it deserves, like Bennells outstanding performance against WC last week which reminded me of a young flash
  13. dont know why every1 italks up this grimes fella...we got him for trading Travis at pick 14 and hes done nothing. Some ppl need to be a bit more realistic about some players on the list
  14. What i like most about Bails is that hes a hard nut coaching a team that has always lacked grunt in the way they go about their footy. The wins havnt come and most probably wont come yet, but in my mind I cant think of a better direction he is attempting to take the club or any other coach who could be doing better. Daniher was a panzy and MFC developed a rep for being soft at the footy (not Neita of course), so hopefully when the skills catch up with age this will change.
  15. Calling Blease and Strauss top 10 draft talent in an average year is pretty stupid. Rating these guys as superior calibre players because this is supposedly a "super draft" is stupid. Look at the 2006 AFL draft which was also dubbed a super draft and very few players have had much impact on their respective teams. 2007 which was an "average" draft i rate higher than 2006. For a super draft, the 2006 draft has been a bust...i understand the hype for the 2008 draft because we all want the best for mfc, but truth is any one our draftees right now are only as good as their last game Carn the deesss

    Numbers?

How long is it going to take before AFL players have their bloody name on the back of their jumper!

    Numbers?

What is the fascination with who wears what number? Seems pretty pointless....I like number 9 because its bold, captivating and Kobe Bryant of the LA Lakers once wore while playing for the US Olympic team so hopefully Strauss will turn out as skilled and agile as Kobe.
  18. Its days like today where all the blowouts and frustration manisfest into potential and oppurtunity. If the priority systems still exists next year, I for one will not be flustered if we win fewer than 4.
  19. Hell YEH! Will we still suck with Beny, but he will bring more media interest to the club and show the kids how to play hard and party hard!
  20. Nathan Buckley after watching a lot of Daniel Rich gives his endorsement (nod of approval)...ouch, that hurts the head! http://www.afl.com.au/News/NEWSARTICLE/tab...px?newsId=69265
  21. I agree its too early to call, but i do like his no nonsense attitude towards the playing group (something i felt Daniher was a bit soft at times) and has resulted in most of the team coming back in better shape "than expected" to preseason training which i thought i was impressive. As far as on-field performances go, I highly doubt any coach in the league could have produced a significantly more successful outcome in 2008 For 2009 i would consider it a successful year for Bailey if he can produce 3 things: - instill bit more confidence among the players - better use of the footy, or more specifically, reduce the constant bloody ineffective handballing - extra win or 2 on the board
  22. M8 I think your being overly harsh there. If you consider MFC members including the fact that about 23% of MCC members support MFC, the club is well placed and has one of the largest supporter bases in the AFL. MFCs highly discounted memberships for MCC members is the reason the club had record membership numbers this year and this is expected to continue in 2009. You say the AFL looks at us with contempt (which is true for the time being), but you forget two things: 1) The pride, respectibility and passion on display by the players and supporters in 2005 as the team advanced to the semi-finals 2) In 2004-2005 Carltons consistently poor performances and low crowd numbers brought about contempt from the AFL and even lead to speculation over the clubs collapse. How quickly the winds of fortune can change!
  23. "Swift" the name sounds great, lets get him!
  24. Great game, good fun! Thanks organisers! Boys played with some passion especially in Q4 something TalkingCarltank cant buy
  25. All i remember of Dawson in his short stint with Hawthorns playing list was Anthony Rocka kicking a monster bag against him (9 goals or something), and he was the laughing stock of the league for a few weeks. Apprehensive to say the least about the kid
