"& everything the management does gets greeted with loud applause. " I must be reading a different forum - seems to me it's the other way around. While we are all entitled to speculate and pontificate on this forum, none of us really know the factors that went into this decision. Only time will tell.

No, that's not last year's data analyst. It's just one of our relentlessly negative posters at work.

That makes a lot of sense.

That reporter on the ABC Radio National is at it again trying to excuse Essendon. According to him this morning, the ASADA response to the HS article was just a blanket denial of wrongdoing and did not address the points raised. A blatant lie. Then he adds some irrelevant scuttlebutt to pour scorn on the whole issue. The ABC should sack him.

You'd have to wonder what Essendon was self-reporting for if there was no problem with the drug.

Jon Ralph says Demons are effectively a basket-case team

I am enjoying your selective definition of the word milestone to suit your position. But this dictionary seems to say otherwise: a stone set up beside a road to mark the distance in miles to a particular place. a significant stage or event in the development of something. "the speech is being hailed as a milestone in race relations" -

I'd say a first finals appearance in a long time is a milestone match. Milestones (as a metaphor) don't have to be even numbers or associated with a special year. They mark significant events. -

It is extremely rare that I agree with SK who is clearly in a competition to see who can be the most negative poster here, but he is pretty much right on this (except for his rude way of saying it). What is posted here has very little effect on how the club performs, especially if the Club wisely tells players to avoid us. But enthusiasm or its lack at actual matches does have an effect. However generating enthusiasm at a match is rather tied up with how the club is playing in that match, so on balance fans have little effect. And SK, I'm afraid you can't expect people to start reading a thread at the point where you apologised for getting your facts wrong earlier. You'll just have to keep pointing to your apology, or better, assume that posters will probably read that soon enough. Or put your apology in as an edit to your original post. -

Surely the only issue here is the conclusion that all is sweet in the AFL free agency because a couple of the poorer players from GF clubs transferred to badly performing clubs. When Lynch transfers to the Suns, I'll believe it. Oh wait... -

Don't worry, barracking for another team will make no difference. You will find the same sowers of depression on the forums of any club doing worse than its supporters hope. Only the club which happens to be the current premiers seem to be insulated from posters who see the worst in every action/non-action of their club. We have a few here who don't need naming. I guess they think being so relentlessly negative will magically improve the club somehow. Sadly it will have no effect, but hopefully makes them feel better. Fortunately most posters seem to have a more balanced view of our strengths and failings. But if you just count the number of posts, it doesn't look that way. -
Now that would have me heading to the microwave.

Yeah. About bloody time we started kicking some goals during these interviews.

Strange that you say that in response to my saying that there is no point in analysing. Or maybe were you agreeing with me?

Just as there is no more fervent person than the newly converted, there is no more fervent hater than those who leave a religion or whatever. So I wouldn't rush to say that because he was a Demons supporter in the past that he can't he a hater now. Not saying he is or is not, just that history may mean little.

Takes one to know one.

Anyone know what the salary cap caps if clubs can do this? https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-2019-richmond-dustin-martin-net-worth-norm-smith-medallist-set-for-sixfigure-bonus/news-story/33a5774f2c9581600454856f281e0d29

I think you are right. But I doubt if the Giants had enough shots on goal to draw any conclusions abut their confidence. Still the more specialist coaches the better I think - even if one of them addresses the mental issues.

I'm not alluding to you. As a critic you are sensible. Some others, not so much. I've been supporting this club since the late 1950's so I've seen a lot of pain as well as success (the latter sadly only dimly remembered) but I've never seen so many supporters who are so relentlessly negative as some on here. Sure we have a lot to be negative about, but I wish some would give it a rest. They are not doing us or the club any favours. Maybe it is therapy for them, who knows. It's almost as boring as me saying it is boring.
-
It is also a fact that there are a number of people on here who can't resist putting the boot into the club whenever they get half a chance. I'd like to see them nominate for the Board except they rarely offer solutions other than the bleeding obvious. Would you vote for any of them?
-
For supporting the club or for constantly putting the boot into it whenever even half an opportunity arises? I trust the latter group are all going to nominate for the Board and sort things out for us.

Something to dilute the endless moaning here about our club. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-09-29/toby-greene-father-arrested-at-afl-grand-final/11558230

Yes, but you don't get a lot of good stats without a 'never say die attitude" etc. While stats may not say everything, they do say something, probably quite a lot.

Clearly in 2018 we were off the pace. But was finals footy so much different in 2019 than in 2018 when we won 2 finals? I don't think so. Seems to me the fall off occurred because of a perfect storm of factors related to playing the game. (I've no way of knowing about admin issues). I'm hoping 2020 will either be successful or at least make it clearer which of those factors are the fundamental problems.

Good to see a thread the depressives on here can enjoy.

it is not necessarily illogical for those clubs to be facing a closed window and us not to be despite the relative performances this year. How about we stop beating ourselves around the head until we see a few rounds in 2020.
